Near the end of the river
    Kaya P.

We went with a group of 5 on our second tubing trip down the Platte river. The Post takes you down to the launch spot but you have to walk a good 200-300 feet to get there with your tube in hand. The pricing for tubing is pretty reasonable since it's a 2 hour trip (although it has taken us about 4 hours each time we have gone). We get tubes with no bottoms as well as a cooler tube - there's a lot of "towing" needed to be done to avoid getting stuck in the marshes along the Platte and you need a snack in the middle sometimes the only reason i can't give a 5 star review is that each time we've gone there has been a less than pleasant employee or two, but luckily they're only part of the equation for a short while. They seem uptight and unwilling to answer questions without treating you like you're stupid. I thought this was just a fluke and they had a bad day, but after going there multiple times the employees in the shop have been the same each time. If you have the time to do the two hour trip (as opposed to the one Hour trip which are both the same price), absolutely do it. The lake at the end of the trip is so beautiful that the trip is worth it for that alone. The water in this part of Lake Michigan is clear as day and the view of the mountains in the distance is like something out of a storybook.

Heading out on the Platte. Thanks Trading Post!

We drove past the Tiki bar this weekend on our way to a brewery and I made my boyfriend turn around…read moreand stop there. A cute tiki bar on the river with live music, fire pit and margarita slushies sounded like the perfect place to be. We sat down at the bar and weren't greeted for at least 15 minutes. There were probably 10-13 other patrons around so we gave some grace even though we prefer a "Hey I'll be with you shortly" or whatever else. One lady came over to us looking grumpy and said (referring to the other woman behind the bar) "she isn't a bartender so if you think she's ignoring you, she's not). We said okay thanks, no worries. another 10 minutes goes by while we watch the "non-bartender" pour quite a few beers for people who arrived after us. Very confusing and a bit upsetting that we had now been sitting for almost half an hour without even getting our drinks placed. As soon as we agreed to leave, the grumpy woman asked for our orders with a scowl on her face. During our order, the non-bartender asked her a question about a beer being on draft vs the bottle. The lady answered her, rolled her eyes and said "what else" to us with attitude. We were so uncomfortable and felt lied to. My excitement about this place quickly went down. I would rate one star, but the place could be so great with better employees/better system. Google reviews showed multiple reviews about the same grumpy woman. Unless she is the owner, maybe it's time to find someone else...

The location was convenient, parking was somewhat tight near their main building, the outside of the buildings were nicely decorated, inside was average, their process of paying & getting equipped to tube (or canoe) and to get to the tubing put in location, etc., was confusing and complicated for people like us who have never tubed before, involved interacting with several different Riverside employees in several different locations inside their main building and outside their main building, was reasonably priced (IMHO), offered no real solution to the big problem of knowing what to do with your vehicle fob "keys" while you tube so that they don't get wet and deactivate the car fob rending it unable to open your car, etc., in the parking lot where you park near the Platte river upon completing your tubing venture (they sold us a little thick box that supposedly closes in an airtight way not allowing water to get in while it's in your pocket as you tube for $12...but it didn't work, water got in and our fob was all wet as we opened it after getting out of the river at the end!!! Riverside said they were "sorry", and refunded our $12 for the box), and the employees were nice, friendly, and knowledgeable.

It was small and basic but had everything we needed. Towels were actually fluffy! The pool was an excellent bonus. Each cabin is well-maintained, offering cozy interiors that perfectly complement the serene natural surroundings. The resort's attention to detail is evident, with clean and comfortable accommodations that provide a genuine sense of relaxation. The communal areas, including the indoor pool/spa, playground, and fire pits make for a perfect family getaway. However, it's worth noting a few aspects that potential visitors might want to consider. The owners are quite vigilant, with surveillance cameras placed throughout the property. While this does contribute to a sense of security, it feels intrusive, particularly if you're looking for a more laid-back and private getaway. The owners make it no secret they actively watch the cameras and will provide real-time feedback of guest's activities. The owners also have extreme cleaning requirements for checkout. If you do not meet these requirements they will send you a followup email containing details and pictures of your transgressions. For example, there is an unwritten expectation to clean the toilet before leaving even though a toilet brush is not provided. I have never encountered such expectations at other resorts, vacation rentals, or hotels. Additionally, the owners have a clear preference for individual cabin rentals. Large groups and children are discouraged, which might be a consideration if you're planning a family vacation, reunion, or a group trip. This focus on maintaining a serene environment may not suit everyone's vacation plans. However, if you're a retiree looking to go fishing or kayaking this is your place. This was our second summer at the resort and will be our last. Our family group rented 6 cabins, some traveling from out of state. Our group ranged from grandparents to young kids. We are a fairly quiet group that doesn't "party", nor do we stay up late. We did our best to stay out of other guests way and share the communal areas. The owners made us feel like a bother and unwelcome during our stay. We cleaned up after ourselves and cleaned the cabins before we left. Even still, we received emails after our stay indicating toilets were not cleaned and a couple of crumbs were left on a counter. While I can appreciate the owners' high standards for cleaning and grounds maintenance, they do not have enough staff to maintain those standards and instead push the responsibility onto their guests. Overall, Betsie Riverside Resort is a lovely destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat in well-kept surroundings. Just be mindful of the owners' preferences, expectations, and the presence of active security camera monitoring if you're looking for a more relaxed and private experience.

I have been on rivers, lakes and the ocean before. I like a challenge. However, this was really hard for me to be in the back of the canoe for the whole trip. The obstacles are nearly constant for the first hour and if you go with a group like we did it was hard to stay close to them because of them. *That might be what you want! * Great! I have always loved canoe trips because they feel so chill however this was not chill. I couldn't look away. The current, wind, trees and other kayakers/canoes in the river made this stressful. Probably not great for those brand new to canoeing and kayaking- or those that don't feel like non-stop hard paddling for an hour. The second half was more what I was hoping for- Open river. Fewer trees down. Fewer people. If I had been in the front of the canoe it all would have been delightful. My son was in the canoe with me and enjoyed it (but he didn't have to navigate). The staff was friendly, helpful and kind. The space and gear were great. They were very family friendly and an experienced person can easily take their kids.
