I should have listened to the reviews before booking here. I came here because I was able to get a same day haircut, and I had high hopes for it to be a nice salon experience. The vibe from some of the workers was just... off. The coffee shop would be a cute addition if it didn't mean the only waiting area for the salon was two tables with two chairs each, which left some people standing around while waiting for their appointment. I was sent with a different stylist than I was scheduled for, and she did not make much conversation, which I typically expect with a haircut. Onto the nitty-gritty, how was the haircut? I wanted a specific shorter haircut that I showed the stylist where the length should be, no crazy style or anything, just a plain short cut. a typical stylist would cut a little long and show me and we would trim up any areas if need be. This lady cut my hair over an inch shorter than specified, which would be one thing if it were halfway down my back, but when it's the difference between falling at your ears versus your chin, that makes a huge difference, not one I like the look of on myself. She blew it off as "oh, we went a bit short, that just means it will last longer", when in reality for me it was the difference between a nice cut that I like versus something far too short that I am not comfortable with. She mentioned a 10 day guarantee where I could come back in if I wanted to change anything, but unfortunately there is no way to fix too short. I will not be coming back to this Salon. read more

Worst spa services ever!! I will never go back, and don't recommend this place to anyone!! I paid almost $500 for a half ass job for my daughter and I. First off they never told us that we had a student in training. Does this person even have certification to do services? Would have been nice to know beforehand that I would be having a student. Also, the price should reflected that it was a student and not charging me full price for it. Facial was terrible, no neck pillow, no knee pillow and no headband. I had toner and water leaking into my hair down my neck. Facial steamer was aimed for the towel wrapped around my face, that did nothing. Clearly he had no idea what he was doing, as I saw his list on the counter after it was completed. Applied some sort of mask on my face that burned like hell. Applied something else that he forgot to remove all of it from my face. Once I got into the car, I realized that I had mask still left over on my nose and on my jawline. Pedicure was terrible. Insulted me because I only had nail polish left over on my toes. Never filed my heels. All I got was nail polish and a leg massage. Hardly worth the price. My daughter's experience was not any better. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Her Alibi, train your people to do their job properly. Also give your customers notice that they will be having a student do their services. Some people don't like that. I will never be back. read more

Cheap, so-so service, but don't do good haircut. I would save your money and go for elsewhere for better haircut then stick with a bad hair cut for whatever is long enough for a good one. I have thick and straight hair. Layering the hair will requires some detail fine trimming; but this layering work, where I saw it with the back mirror they provided, my heart really just sinks. I kept getting comment to ask if I cut my own hair after I got my hair from there. So if you have difficult hair, just go for elsewhere. They do provided 10days grantee, if you don't like your hair cut you can go back; but if your hair stylist just isn't good enough, what do good to have her to cut a few more inches of bad hair ？ read more

Oooh my. What a day to have hair. Note: while my review will mainly focus on my own very, VERY bad experience, I was part of a party where three people out of six ended up looking pretty good, so there is obviously a difference between stylists. Hence the 2 stars, rather than 1. That being said: I came here from out of town, I didn't pick the location, but was part of a group having their hair styled for a wedding. Knowing that stylists can be hit-or-miss, I was prepared to redo my hair when I got home from my appointment, and I'm very glad. I didn't catch the name of the atrocious stylist, but she had a longish blonde bob. What follows is a list of the BS that happened: 1) When the stylist initially washed my hair, she rubbed conditioner all the way into my scalp. With fine hair like mine, that will mean grease up to a day early. She was also really snarky when I asked her to adjust the water temperature, which ??? 2) Knowing my own hair type, I asked her to use a volumizing product. She didn't, when the hair was wet, but said she'd use a powder later. Ok. That isn't going to to be enough, but whatever. I had given up at this point. 3) She didn't use any kind of heat protecting product for drying or curling my hair. Which explains the extreme frizziness at the ends. 4) The curling irons were the bare metal, not ceramic-coated. Frizzy hair, you say? I wonder why. 5) I asked for a very basic style; a side split, tightish curls away from the face (they'll fall as they're combed out). I got... some sort of feathered monstrosity straight out of a early eighties soap opera. It was so, so, bad, and when I carefully tried to guide her in a better direction, she responded that I can't expect more, with hair like mine(!). If I didn't have a good stylist with good products at home, I might even have believed her (in fact, I make my own hair better several times a week.) It was so, so bad. I am at LEAST thirty years too young for this style. 6) I am fairly sure that the hair spray used (at least the one they had one sale) was Big Sexy Hair, which is a drugstore brand. I kind of expect salon quality brand at salons, you know? Overall a big NOPE. I went straight home to comb out the curls and redo them, and looked ok, except for a failure of volume, but at least I didn't end up looking like a eighties disaster in front of fifty people. I feel really bad for my MIL, who paid for this. read more

I get my hair done here all the time jade I think is the best. And she does amazing. She will be helping me pull SPLAT hair dye out next week and if you don't splat is more fabric dye than hair dye so fair warning it will damage your hair and dye our skin and stay in for a long time. So I recommend not using it. read more

I had an out of town wedding - coming in from California, so maybe it's my fault for not doing more research. I made an appointment for my bridesmaids and I for hair and makeup. My trial was...weird. Shaun, the owner, did it but not really. She said they were "rough drafts" of what it was actually going to look like. She really didn't put any makeup on me, only a bit to match my color and we disagreed a bit of what a cat eye should look like. She was practicing on me with a dull pencil so it looked terrible, but again she said that it wouldn't look like that the day of. Well, they day of came and it started off weird. The girl at the front desk asked us if we hade appointments - we obviously did because we had two hours allotted. The communication wasn't great and they made us feel a little uncomfortable. I liked my hairdo but not the makeup. I'm not a makeup artist but, they didn't use primer, eyeshadow primer, bronzer and I had to ask Shaun to trim my eye lash because she applied it crooked. I also had to ask her to apply said bronzer because I looked really pale. My bridesmaids were unhappy as well and I felt really bad that I made them pay for a service they could have done better on themselves. I also felt like I could have done my own makeup and felt better about it in pictures. The staff at Her Alibi are not makeup artists, if they are, they are not prepared to do a whole bridal party. Although they were near closing, and although I didn't have an appointment, the staff was very kind and accommodating. Heather cut my hair, and it looked great. She didn't rush despite the late hour, and never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. The icing on the cake: my haircut cost less there than what I would have spent at the Pure Hair Spa. read more

If I could rate them as a zero, I would, because that's the service we received! I purchased a gift certificate for my daughter to get a massage BEFORE her wedding. This was her bridal shower gift from me. She called several times and left messages to try and make an appointment and not one person; including the manager would return her call. Evidently they were in-between masseuses, and instead of calling her back to tell her...they chose to ignore her. Worst customer service in Helena! Will be selling the gift certificate now that the wedding is over and they refused to refund the money! I wouldn't recommend them to anyone! read more

Just got my first pedicure done by Ashley B. I was with my two favorite people, and we were comfortable through the entire appointment with great laughs. We all got the ultimate pedicure that included a foot scrub, mask, hot wax, and massage. When we first walked in, we were greeted immediately and asked to choose any chair. The chairs are in a private setting which made the experience much more relaxing. I could go on and on but I am still so relaxed that it is hard for me to go in more detail :) read more

I'm from out of town and wanted a mani pedi .... I made an appt the day of. The location was easy to get to, parking onsite, decor very nice.... the sevice not so good at any price.......and I don't mind paying for a good service with clean implements. I think I would have gotton a better mani pedi at a walk in nail spa. My advice, ask for a nail tech to provide your nail services vs a cosmetologist. If I pass through Helena again, I would give them another chance if I could book with a dedicated nail tech. read more

My husband and I were in Montana all week on vacation. We were in a lot of pain from bad backs and needed a massage. Most of the massage places were booked up. A massage therapist recommended Her Alibi. Koltan was able to get us both in within an hour. The salon is beautiful, clean and everyone is warm and friendly. The massage room is peaceful, serene, and very clean. Koltan is a the best masseuse I've ever had. Normally, I can't stand for anyone to massage my left leg because it's just too painful, but Koltan has a magic touch from head to toe! My husband and I highly recommend him. She said she only uses wax strip paper (which I hate). Admittedly, I had waited too long between appointments but it is because I was fearful I would have a bad experience... I did! Where do I begin. Perhaps this business is more known for hair than nails. Perhaps the person I had doing my nails should not be an employee. Perhaps it was bad luck. I am by no means am a skeptical, critical, pessimistic person. In fact, I am the opposite. I almost always give people the benefit of the doubt and am sometime too optimistic. However, the minute I walked into Her Alibi, the staff seemed unprofessional (talking about how immature the guy who was about to do my nails was, trying to fix a bill problem over the phone, using some foul language). My nail 'specialist' showed up 15 minutes late (after I was informed by the front desk how unreliable this man was). The next 10 minutes were spent with the man searching for different utensils needed to do my nails. I not only came in for a nice manicure, but I was getting the married the next day, so needless to say, I was expecting something nice and willing to pay for it. The biggest shock was not the unproffesionalism or how the employees talked over me about their bill problems as if I were not even there, but the fact that while supposedly getting a French Gel Manicure, my hands were never soaked in water, my cuticules were never clipped, my nails were never cleaned underneathe, my nails were different lengths and my hands never touched a drop of lotion - and all this sloppiness took over an hour to 'not' do. If I was any other person but me, I would have refused to pay for it and shouldn't have. However, I felt uncomfortable and awkward and confused, so I blindly paid the overpriced bill and tried to convince myself it wasn't that bad. When my wonderful mother took me to another nail salon the day of my wedding to FIX my nails (Luxury Nails and Spa), they saw what a terrible job the person had done, was able to peel off the Gel way too easily and did a BEAUTIFUL job on my nails. It has been over a week and they still look amazing. I do hope that Her Alibi reads this and thinks twice about who they decide to hire, and make sure they really know what they're doing before a customer pays way too much for inefficient, sloppy, and inconsistent work. From my one-time experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've never actually bothered writing a review on places before, positive or negative but after going to her alibi for four years straight, I was really disappointed this time around. I got my hair done this weekend in an attempt to fix up the start of a crappy summer and it only made things worse. First my highlights were too bright against the under color and when she did fix that, I realized that the haircut itself was no good either. She suggested a couple of layers and I agreed, thinking she would consult me with a length but she just went at it and now whenever I straighten my hair, it just looks ridiculous-like a bowl cut over a longer layer of hair. the shortest layer is just too short and there's too much of it even when I try to curl it or give it waves to kind of hide it. Absolutely hate it and it's freaking me out because now I'm stuck with it for months until it grows out. Loved her alibi up until now, and would still say some of the hairstylists are good and are nice people but I definitely won't be going back for anything else. read more

It was just "ok." I traveled to Helena with my daughter for a spa day during her spring break. We booked two appts for each of us on a Friday am. We could not get massages since there is only one therapist, but we were able to book facials and pedicures rather quickly. Unfortunately, we were not scheduled at the same time (for the facials) so we had lots of down time. This was not a true spa. There was no locker or set changing room or area to unwind during the wait so I also got a rather bland blow out. The salon was loud (not because it was busy) but because the staff was rather loud and generally unprofessional(discussions about lunch, etc.) during pedis. During both the facials and pedicures, there was lots of inactive time or wasted time. My nail tech also spent an extraordinary amount of time using an Emory board to remove my shellac polish as opposed to soaking them in acetone like other salons. Still have calluses . . . and my polish is already chipped after less than 24 hours. facial was also just ok. . .ultimately we changed and prepped in salon bathroom with leaky roof. Price and tip were mid range. I really wish I would have spent a little more and booked at an Aveda location. read more

I received a spa package as a gift and it ended up being my first time receiving a massage. The lady who game me the massage was WONDERFUL, I told her it was my first time and she explained everything to me and made me feel so comfortable. I then received a pedicure that was done very well and felt luxurious. Last, I received a manicure where I chose to get the gel nails. This was unfortunately what made my review drop a couple stars. The polish was very uneven and the edges were not clean. I have had many gel manicures in the past and this was by far the worst. I ended up getting it removed and re done at another place in town. The customer service here was great and I will definitely be back for a massage but I will not be returning for nail work. read more

I had a pretty lame experience at Her Alibi. I just went there for a French Bikini wax but it ended up looking just like a plan bikini wax so I asked her to just wax a little bit more. She spent about another two minutes on me and then proceeded to charge me an extra 10 bucks more than a French bikini, claiming it was a "customized" french bikini. What? I still don't think what I got was more than a plain bikini wax but I got charged for a French bikini PLUS another 10 bucks on top of that! The price for a "customized" bikini wax isn't even on their list of services so I had no idea the cost until I went to pay, second, the gal never ever told me that if she spent another minute waxing me, that it was going to cost extra, third, it was just a ridiculous and made up charge. The prices are way more than I pay for in a big city and the result was subpar. Nice girl that did my waxing but I recommend highly that anyone that wants waxing, go elsewhere. read more
