I love me some art, dont get me wrong, but daaaaaamn, this stuff was pricey. We are Narragansett people, not NYC. Just sayin'. Over all, I was pumped to see so many young people out and about and being part of something that other people worked really hard for. The South County Art Association is a nonprofit that offers both a fine art gallery with a small…read moregift shop and classes in painting, printmaking, stone carving, and pottery. The studio classes are not well advertised and are sort of a "best-kept secret" of the South County art scene. Not many commercial studios have the resources that the SCAA has. The pottery studio (or "Pot Shop") in particular is fabulous. Small but well-stocked, with frequent firings in both gas and electric kilns, as well as on-demand raku firings (for the price of labor and gas), there isn't a better place to do pottery. Classes allow unlimited studio access, and the usual Pottery I and II are usually augmented with specialty class or two and workshops that bring in well-regarded potters from all over New England to demonstrate personal techniques. The members are convivial, too -- Monday morning coffees for work and socializing are generally well-attended. All SCAA members get to participate in the juried member shows and the Holiday Sale, as well as other annual events like The Great Art Heist.

The artworks come in all sizes and price ranges from under four-dollar greeting cards and modestly priced matted prints, to variously sized framed prints, as well as super sized framed prints costing several hundred dollars. In addition, the gallery features two visiting artists each month the opening of which typically features an opening reception. The gallery is also located next door to the OneWay Gallery that just reopened Saturday evening. The combination of the three establishments, the Bill Krul gallery, Crazy Burger and the OneWay gallery next door to each other provide some of the best eating, and the best artwork in Narragansett. Amazing and very talented employees and volunteers with impeccable information about everything inside the museum. Admission is $10 for anyone over the age of 12 that is not a veteran or active duty. Highly recommend you stop in and don't be afraid to ask questions even though you're not allowed to touch anything. You can still ask if they can show you something and explain it further. I think Schools should definitely take advantage of all the great artifacts that are in this museum and they should request services for their school to offer tours for a school trip especially for US history.
