It was a good time. It was a little stressful because it was our first time coming. The person that explained what to do was nice, but it was still a little confusing. It was fun to paint. The only thing is they stuck us in a corner with other people's painted pottery so it felt like they were just throwing us somewhere. My biggest issue was the fact it was $60 for 2 mugs that we painted ourselves. I understand they have to bake it. But $60 for 2 mugs really just feels extremely steep. I could see $40-$45 at the most. Especially since I picked the most basic standard coffee mug. The dinosaur mug I can see being a little bit more because it's not just a standard mug. The paints were also majority empty. I kept having to find one that wasn't empty. read more

Spent some time here with my husband and an eight-year-old on a Saturday afternoon to paint only. We ended up having a really nice time and ended up with some cute items! Studio - It's a good-sized space with at least 8-10 tables, each seating four. Each table had a container with brushes of various sizes. Great lighting and plenty of room to maneuver. Ceramics - There was a huge variety of ceramic items lining both walls of the studio. A word of caution, though: the website states that pieces start at $8, but there are not many choices at that price range and prices grow pretty quickly from there. I think the average price was $25 (and that might even be on the low end). Still, plenty to choose from. And I do think they're fairly priced. I just want to make sure folks know what to expect. Service - Being newbies, we asked for help as soon as we walked in and were graciously given a guided tour. A very nice lady (I think the owner?) explained in detail how the paint worked (how the more coats you put, the more vibrant the color) and showed us how it would look once it was glazed. Also worth noting is that you don't get to take your item home the same day as it needs to be glazed and cooked (baked?) in the kiln. We returned the following Saturday and picked up out items which were wrapped and put in a bag. Very disappointed. I had a party booked this morning for 10am. This was an hour prior to opening so it could be a small gathering with few people (COVID friendly) I showed up at 9:45 with all the stuff for the party and 3 excited little girls. The place was dark. The owner ( one who booked and confirmed party) did not show up until 10:40. The room was not ready, nothing was ready. I barely received an apology as I waited almost an hour for a pre confirmed party. I did most party stuff and clean up myself. I would have thought a business would have been more accommodating and prepared. I was extremely disappointed and will not book another party at this establishment. read more

This was a very difficult review, because we got the groupon (yay), but had to wait over 2 months to book a time for a party of 4 to make the pottery (boo), and we had a lady who was very impatient with us and completely disregarded our initial requests and make us all make generic bowls (boo x 100), but when we came back to paint them, the new staff (?owner) was so friendly and helpful that she stayed after the closing time so we could all finish our painting and get them all cured. I think the painting aspect was definitely muuuuuuch more fun and exciting than the pottery making, but I would have preferred not working with a staff who couldn't have cared less for us and treated us like nuances to her productivity. Also, it looks like the overall cost to come here without a groupon is also pretty pricey too, so I would be cautious when booking your couples-date unless everyone uses a joint calendar like doodle. read more

I come here with my children a few times every year. We find it to be a very peaceful and enjoyable activity. They are teens now and still enjoy a visit to Clayground. We usually choose practical things to paint... plates bowls and cups that way we get to see and use them often. When finances were tight we would just paint tiles and now have many cute coasters scattered around the house. Highly recommend. read more

Did a search and saw they open at 10am...drove there only to see open at noon printed on the door. I didn't want to disappoint my five-year-old so we sat around and waited. Had a party at 1:30 so was cutting it close. Got in at noon and done by 12:45....stood by the register for FIFTEEN minutes waiting to pay. I was completely ignored by a girl taking pottery out of a kiln who clearly saw us-- didn't even have the common courtesy to say "I will be with you in a minute" (or give me an hour). A couple came in with 2 teenagers...and guess what? --THEY were ignored too. I had to explain to them how to start painting, where smocks were, wetting down the pottery, picking paints etc - - Not my job, but considering you were ignoring them as much as me - - you are welcome Finally..... after waiting and giving directions to other people (now at 20 minutes and I don't have much time to get to the party) I walked out with a crying child. And when I say ignored - - I mean ignored, I sa8d excuse me....I waved my hand, my daughter started crying. There was clearly an employee there, I understand it was helping someone else. But she didn't even acknowledge that there were people waiting for assistance. There was also a woman in the back who she could have asked to come forward to help. My daughter was talking about having her next birthday here - - NO freaking way. I would rather take her back to Disney! read more

This was my first time coming to anything like this. I enjoyed the simplicity of being able to come in whenever, pick anything off the shelf, and spend however much time I want painting my amateur masterpiece. It's obviously more expensive than if you bought a mug from the dollar store, but the creative experience is great! Check the bottom for the pricing. The owner is fairly hands off, but if you ask for help along the way, she's happy to give tips here and there without drowning you in tips. Helpful points: - Pick paints off the shelf by the door. The colors are much darker once they've been fired, as you can see by the turtle color samples under each bottle - You need very little paint dollops, unless you're covering a large surface area. So if you're doing just some detail work, you don't need to fill that entire hole on the paint tray with paint - literally a dime size may be all you need - Do 3 layers of paint, so it doesn't get streaky after it's fired. And no water needed, just paint! Also, I was surprised by the texture of the paint as it dried on my mug - it was very dry and gritty. When I was trying to remove a brush hair from the paint (more on that in the next point), I accidentally scratched the gritty paint off and had to repaint it. Careful not to blow that gritty paint into your eye like I did after all that :) - If brush hairs get stuck in your paint, that's fine - the kiln will burn off any brush hairs and no one will ever know they were there She'll text you after about a week, to let you know when it's ready for pick up. It's held for 60 days, then presumably thrown out? All in all: Very fun, great creative project, and I can't wait to be back again with friends! read more

So I have been torn between 3 and 4 stars because the experience had its ups and downs but overall I was happy with the product and all of us had a great time doing it so I am confident that 4 stars is what this place deserves. Here is what to expect with the Groupon (it will be different than what you read on Groupon and when you make the reservation they don't tell you this either): Call to make a reservation and they book quickly so call far ahead of time. That day you go, you are only going to make the pottery on the kiln, takes about 5-10min. That's it, you then have to come back within 3-4 weeks to paint your product (this will take about an hour or so depending on how fancy you get), then you come back after 10 days to pick up the finished product. Well this wasn't explained very well initially so now you know the process. The woman that helps you make the creation you are looking for is so helpful and makes you feel like you sort of know what you are doing, its a cool experience. When you go back to paint they have a variety of paints to chose from and designs you can use so you really can tailor to your home décor. The woman that explained the painting ideas to us was so nice and very helpful as well. The only poor customer service experience is from the older woman working there (older than like 25) who may be the owner? She is not very welcoming at all just very cold with everything she says and does, like you are bothering her all the time, so she has a great business but just shouldn't be working with customers directly, just leave that to her staff. So between the Groupon confusion and the not so friendly owner, I was torn on a rating but overall, this is a great place that you will thoroughly enjoy. If you don't buy the Groupon and you want to just go in and paint the clay products they have available you can, just expect to pay a lot more. But if you don't mind going there several times then try making it yourself there and paint after. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we were all grown woman so I am sure kids would have a blast as well. Just a fun, unique experience that you should try at least once. read more

Drove all the way from Woonsocket in the snow called 20 minutes before we got there to make sure they were going to stay open they said yes. We get there and they were closed. Would have been nice to receive a call back saying that they decided to close early that would have been fine but no. Wasted $25 worth of gas just driving there and now we have to drive an hour back home. Terrible owner if you ask me. Left a comment on their Facebook page and they deleted it immediately. read more

While I had a good time there with my son I am disappointed to say I wouldn't recommend it. Reason being we went for two things 1. To paint some premade pottery. I painted one thing and my son did as well. Both items turned out nicely despite very minimal instruction. 2. To make some of our own pottery with the "clay class". Which really seems to need to be renamed. There isn't instruction or anything you just get s cube of clay and left to figure it out. Which is fine for me since we were just having fun. But now after this long process....all my stuff is broken. It survived drying and painting which took 2 weeks. Then clearly once fired up there were lots of things dropped, broken and lost. The item my son made lost all 4 of its legs. Only 3 pieces of leg were returned to glue and none of them fit together. My item lost a whole leaf and again I don't have all the pieces to glue together. I don't mind paying $25 for a bad class if I at least get to take something home in one piece. I would recommend they either try to find a more mature reliable staff and possibly look into moving storage to an area further from customers reach so that other customers don't get broken goods. Compared to the painting place where I live this place is very similar. All the places seem to have the same set of colors (I still wish there were more options). Staff were friendly and helpful, selection of items were plentiful. What I liked about this place is that you are allowed To pour your own paints so you don't get stuck having to wait for an employee for help. They will also pull out of big bottle from under the counter if you're going to be using a lot so you don't have to run back and forth getting a refill of paint. They also give you an exact date of when your pottery will be ready compared to the usual "we will call you when it's done" estimate. Good for all ages to enjoy. read more

This is a really fun place to bring the kids. We go in and make gifts or just for fun for ourselves. The staff is always friendly and patient. My daughter had a jewelry birthday party here and everyone had a blast and something great to take home. They do cereamics, bead jewelry and glass work. Had a wonderful pottery making class using the wheel. Throwing pots was made easy and fun. Can't wait to go back in a.week to paint. Everyone was friendly and helpful. We had my twins' birthday party at Clayground yesterday and it was amazing! It's definitely a tight space for 20 5 year olds and their parents, but I was so impressed with the owner and her daughter who helped us. Her daughter in particular was so positive and helpful, even with all the chaos and questions. The kids all loved painting bowls and are so excited to get them back once they're fired. The owner responded quickly to emails and was very accommodating the whole time. They both are great with kids and I didn't have to do anything during the party except pass out cupcakes. Will definitely be going back for other Clayground experiences. read more

I took my niece here for her bday and we had a fantastic experience! The staff was courteous and helpful. There was a birthday party when we were there and my niece was begging to have her party there next year. The prices are a little high but it was worth it. Studio is nice. Went for ladies night with some friends a few times. Tables are normally very full... some pieces will sell out so I would get there early! Painting was fun... however - prices are steep! ALSO a few times pieces have been lost and it's took us 5 trips to NK to finally pick them up. Poor hours as well to pick up finished pieces. Most people work and the clayground on the days they are open close at 6...I will probably go back again because it's a fun thing to do with friends. read more

My kids and I usually like to go to Clayground in east Greenwich because it's such a great place and the camps are fun, but the young staff are very unprofessional. They don't acknowledge the customers, say hello, or offer any assistance. I called to check on our pieces and one young girl answered the phone as if she was annoyed I called and even hung up on me when I tried to say thank you... I thought I had the wrong number at first because she just said "hello" . I've seen lots of kids in there as well and I would think you should be z kid if people person. This place was really fun! I went with a friend and my mother one evening, and we all had a great time painting, chatting, and listening to music. The other customers around us painting were also very friendly and open. It's a small shop but it's cute and perfect for a fun afternoon activity. The only reason I'm not giving Clayground 5 stars is because the service isn't great. The staff wasn't super friendly and they didn't do a great job explaining how the paint your own pottery process worked (even though we mentioned we had never done anything similar before). I looked Clayground Studio up online and saw some bad reviews. I decided to go there anyway today with my daughter since the other businesses that do this were further away, regardless of the bad reviews. I have to say that my daughter and I had a wonderful experience. From what I understand, there is a new owner and everything was wonderful. It was peaceful and there were other children in there painting and the owner was cordial and helpful and did not stand over the children worried about how much paint they would use or anything like that. While I may or may not be considering going here - It is very discouraging when business owners reply to negative feed back with a "snarky" attitude in their reply. It does your business no justice. Seeing an owner reply like only makes me NOT want to support your business. Instead a reply simply saying "i'm so sorry that you are not pleased, please contact us so we can offer you a refund or a free class on us to provide you a better experience" - Classy, business-like, and get's your point across with possibly gaining more customers rather than losing them. read more
