Had an issue in the past with clayground, promised myself I would never go back.... went back reluctantly after my daughter begged me. We painted Pottery for about an hour, paid our $50 and told to come back in about 10 days. Showed up today to retrieve our merchandise and it's nowhere to be found.... No refund, no offer to allow (my now devastated 6yr old) daughter to paint anything else. Called my credit card company, and won't go back again

Spent some time here with my husband and an eight-year-old on a Saturday afternoon to paint only. We ended up having a really nice time and ended up with some cute items! Studio - It's a good-sized space with at least 8-10 tables, each seating four. Each table had a container with brushes of various sizes. Great lighting and plenty of room to maneuver. Ceramics - There was a huge variety of ceramic items lining both walls of the studio. A word of caution, though: the website states that pieces start at $8, but there are not many choices at that price range and prices grow pretty quickly from there. I think the average price was $25 (and that might even be on the low end). Still, plenty to choose from. And I do think they're fairly priced. I just want to make sure folks know what to expect. Service - Being newbies, we asked for help as soon as we walked in and were graciously given a guided tour. A very nice lady (I think the owner?) explained in detail how the paint worked (how the more coats you put, the more vibrant the color) and showed us how it would look once it was glazed. Also worth noting is that you don't get to take your item home the same day as it needs to be glazed and cooked (baked?) in the kiln. We returned the following Saturday and picked up out items which were wrapped and put in a bag. Overall, we, adults and child alike, really enjoyed this experience and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Place has different hours on every site you visit. They don't answer the phone when you call, so you're taking your chances if you show up

Did a search and saw they open at 10am...drove there only to see open at noon printed on the door. I didn't want to disappoint my five-year-old so we sat around and waited. Had a party at 1:30 so was cutting it close. Got in at noon and done by 12:45....stood by the register for FIFTEEN minutes waiting to pay. I was completely ignored by a girl taking pottery out of a kiln who clearly saw us-- didn't even have the common courtesy to say "I will be with you in a minute" (or give me an hour). A couple came in with 2 teenagers...and guess what? --THEY were ignored too. I had to explain to them how to start painting, where smocks were, wetting down the pottery, picking paints etc - - Not my job, but considering you were ignoring them as much as me - - you are welcome Finally..... after waiting and giving directions to other people (now at 20 minutes and I don't have much time to get to the party) I walked out with a crying child. And when I say ignored - - I mean ignored, I sa8d excuse me....I waved my hand, my daughter started crying. There was clearly an employee there, I understand it was helping someone else. But she didn't even acknowledge that there were people waiting for assistance. There was also a woman in the back who she could have asked to come forward to help. My daughter was talking about having her next birthday here - - NO freaking way. I would rather take her back to Disney!

    It's all broken :(

AJ was amazing with the kids, guiding them through exciting art activities with so much patience and enthusiasm. She was able to keep a large party of 16 kids engaged even though the age group was a tad on the younger side. One of the coolest parts? AJ even took music requests! The kids got to rock out to Taylor Swift while they painted, crafted, and danced around--it added such a fun, lively vibe to the whole party . We also found out she has a Taylor Swift summer camp posted. The space was bright, colorful, and perfectly set up for little artists to let their imaginations run wild. There's even a Moms' night out option where you can bring your favorite cheese platter! Every child left with their own artwork and a huge smile on their face. It was the kind of party they'll be talking about for weeks. If you're looking for something creative, engaging, and truly joyful for your child's next celebration, we can't recommend AJ at Hammer Stain in North Kingstown enough!

I embarrassingly will admit it took me a few months to get back to pick them up, and thankfully they still had them waiting in the back. Also, the garage DOES go through to the back of the building where The Painting Place is - so the directions are correct. It was much easier to get there this time when I realized it was a pull-through garage under the building lol.... They ensured you had all the information before you started and were ready at any point for any questions you had. The setup of the studio was also organized and allowed you to have creative freedom. Another unique aspect that the painting place had was that their color tiles (examples for how the paint would look after firing) also included swatches before the kiln, and how it would look based on the amount of coats you made. They also had an assortment of examples for different applications on your pottery such as masking tape, masking tape stickers, freckled paints, and even glazes you would see on professional pottery. Examples of what you could make and the colors you could choose were all over the studio for easy reference. I had a lovely time and would certainly come back.

If that aspect of the business isn't specifically advertised, it can be a bit off putting for someone who doesn't know what they're walking into. Our biggest issue stems from that fact that this place took pictures of my children and put them on their social media. My wife reached out via chat on Instagram and was ignored. My wife called the business and talked directly to the owner and was met with indifference. She said that the Instagram account was ran.by someone else and she would reach out before pushing my wife off the phone. It was eventually removed and replaced, sarcastically, with a picture of my children with yellow smiley faces blocking them. The Instagram account also blocked my wife who only asked for the pictures to be removed. It wasn't until after this that we saw that she also posted pictures of our children to FACEBOOK and those weren't removed. We tried calling again, during business hours, and the phone was off. So I went there and spoke to her myself. I explained to her that putting images of children is against Rhode Island law. After making me wait, she got on her own phone and all of a sudden had access. She deleted the pictures and I went on my way. I don't recommend this place unless you're a religious zealot looking to spend the afternoon with an insufferable Karen who thinks breaking the law is ok because she's "always done it."

I came in one afternoon with my toddler and zero background in needlepoint and the ladies in this store were so helpful and accommodating. I found a lobster canvas (on the larger side) and I knew that this canvas was what I wanted to start with even though it wasn't meant for beginners. The ladies helped me pick out all the yarns needed and talked to me about the difference in materials and what goes well with what. I needed to learn how to do the basic stitches and even though my son let living their pencil jar around the store, everyone was so sweet and they took the time to teach me different options to start and finish and of course mastering the continental. The options were so cute and I am so grateful to not only the ladies working there, but all the women stitching in the back area who showed me their designs and were very encouraging. While needlepoint is an expensive hobby, they talked to me about prices and were really transparent.
