A few of those that live by the school are fed up with the excuses that come out of the current principals mouth. I don't know where they hired her from, but the principal that they had before, or at least the contact person they had, actually addressed the subject. The teachers genuinely know our child, and it's clear that child development is at the heart of everything they do. The balance of academics, art, movement, and meaningful relationships has been such a gift. One thing I really appreciate is that the school understands Waldorf education as something living. Steiner's ideas were never meant to be frozen in time--they were meant to keep evolving as our understanding of children grows. I see that here. The school stays grounded in the core principles while continuing to grow and meet the needs of today's children. We're so grateful to be part of this community.

My child was bullied in kindergarten, then in first grade and finally in second grade he was bullied by an uncertified teacher. The school doesn't try to remedy the bully issue. Go to Sanderling if you can...a true Waldorf school with qualified teachers. We are at Sanderling now, a wonderful and caring community.

I got called slurs on a daily bases multiple times a day by many different kids. I was bullied so relentlessly that i couldn't even make it past November Break my 10th grade year and that was after wanting to leave the school 2 weeks into my 9th grade year. I had one friend who watched someone come up to me and say that i should go to bible study group so that they can "fix my problem" referring to the fact that I'm gay and then that friend brought me to that bible study group where they tried and failed to convert me. After this I only had two or three friends out of the whole school who didn't betray me the rest of my time there There were many other worse things that happened at this school that I will get into during therapy but not a yelp review I HIGHLY suggest that if your child is not a football playing asshole then DO NOT send them here ESPECIALLY if they are queer or different in anyway cause they will picked on until they can't take it anymore! Leaving this school was the best decision I've ever made for myself, my mental health, and all over well being as a person. The teachers I had were the only good part of this school and I will stand by that till I die. I highly suggest rethinking this school if its on your list to check out!

Our family has enjoyed being a Roosevelt family for many years. Our youngest is now in 6th grade,…read moreand the transition from his elementary school to Roosevelt has been smooth. Our oldest is now a senior in high school and is earning the IB diploma at San Diego High (feeder school). He really learned a lot at Roosevelt, and I credit his Roosevelt teachers for laying the foundation he needed to achieve so much in High School. The family community at Roosevelt is wonderful. The parents are all very welcoming and helpful. They have fun, laid-back special events where everyone can have a good time. The campus is really nice (it was recently renovated), centrally located, and my kids love being right next door to the zoo. We just attended open house, and as always, I was blown away by the teachers. They all seem to really love being at Roosevelt and take special care of each student individually. They make learning fun, which can be hard in middle school. The academic rigor can be challenging, but the kids are supported while they learn. My kids have a special appreciation for a lot of their Roosevelt teachers, and the older one even keeps in touch with a few after all these years. The new principal, McGee (she started in 2025/26), is a great leader for this school and makes parents feel like they are a part of their students' education, keeps us informed, and seems to have great campus management. We feel that the campus is safe and the kids are cared for by all of the staff. Overall, I would highly recommend Roosevelt. One of our kids attended a charter school many years ago that didn't work out well, and it ended up highlighting the benefit of attending neighborhood public schools - they are special places.

I am OVERWHELMINGLY happy with my 7th grade daughters experience at Roosevelt! I remember being so…read morenervous waiting to hear how her first day of 6th grade went. She came home smiling from ear to ear and LOVED her first day. I chalked it up as a shinny new object, and waited for it to maybe fade. That has yet to happen. She LOVES going to school. She is thriving, she is challenged in her classes, and has met new friends from our surrounding neighborhoods. Roosevelt has accelerated Math and English classes, fantastic science and social studies teachers. Mr. Garcia and Mrs. Peterson, in 6th grade, inspired my daughter in ways she has never been inspired and challenged before. My daughter was also able to participate in Girls In Science with San diego Zoo after school once a week! And all ASE (after school enrichment) offerings are FREE to students! Also, with a competitive middle school sports program, Roosevelt is the ONLY SDUSD to offer many sports with a JV (Junior Varsity) program. Roosevelt offers a great balance of Arts, Music, and Athletics. This is a fantastic neighborhood middle school and IB to boot! (and remarks about fights and drug use.....my daughter has not witnessed one fight this year and only one last year and ZERO drug use.)
