My son came from a wonderful elementary school, but I must say he was overwhelmed with a homework packet which he worked on for 3-4 hours each night. I didn't realize there is a better way to teach children. The project-based learning at HTM is so much better than repetitive- based packets! Last year my sons HTM projects included: Designing a campaign ad for underdeveloped regions that are being overtaken by rebels, writing a letter to their government, collaborating with his group to produce a hand-painted, large scale interactive map complete with home made clay tablets, pyramids, houses, volcanoes, etc, of his chosen region (beautifully done), seting up power-point presentations and videos, writing and producing videos, simulating a home made water cleansing system, explaining his knowlege of earthquakes, demonstrating how to solve math problems, and so much more! All of these projects are shown to the parents in a POL, Presentation of Learning, where the kids dress up in business clothing, (yes, the boys wear ties) and conduct their presentation in front of 8 parents and their teachers. It is so amazing to see how confident, enthusiastic, and tremendously knowledgeable these young kids are are in front of a audience! The parents are allowed to ask questions afterwards and you cannot stump these kids with any question! They know the information inside and out. They are our future leaders! I have a tear in my eye each time I see a presentation. HTM is the best! Project-based learning is how kids should be taught! God bless the creators of all HTM / HTH schools!

Kavod has given us a whole lot of amazing learning experiences but I can sum it up by saying that they have cared for my children with respect, consideration and an openness to learning. Both of my children with IEPS have required specialized services and very specific supports. I found the teachers and staff members to be caring, smart, fun and excited about creating a community of respectful and inquisitive learners. No child was ignored, every child was met where they were enthusiastically and the staff worked extremely hard to address needs while simultaneously building on strengths. My kids have both done very well there and the emphasis on languages and culture has been a ton of fun. Projects were meaningful and I appreciated the organized communication and leadership from administration. I would have never imagined my children speaking all these languages so quickly but they have learned because Kavod makes it possible with their organized programming and the support of all team members. As a part of the parent community, I felt welcomed and cared for there as well. In a time where there is so much division, it's a beautiful gift when we can gather, respect one another and learn from one another culturally. I highly recommend this school doesn't matter where you live you can go there they have students that are preschool to high school. The teachers and students are diverse and also from all over the world .

Both of my Grandsons (ages 8, 10) have been attending Elevate Schools since the 1st grade. The teachers are top notch and we have faith and confidence the the quality of teaching is exceptional. I got horribly bullied. called names, cursed out and called a variety of slurs on the regular, so much so that I had to change my name. I also got assaulted and inappropriately touched often. all authority figures at the school did nothing to stop all of this. I'm not hyperbolizing. I went into this school a happy kid, thinking the world is great and everyone has something good in them. I left with a horrible anxiety disorder, plenty of trauma, and probably other stuff I haven't even discovered. I highly recommend sending your kids anywhere but here. I've heard Farb middle is okay, and its less than a mile from De Portola. the free food and slightly better teachers are not worth the horrible people at the school. before 8th grade promotion we were told to fill out a little form about our experience. I was brutally honest and it blew their minds. I just wanna say that I did everything right during middle school. when there was a problem I tried to fix it, brought it to adults, and did everything I could to try and make it stop. but instead of keeping me safe. the teachers and principal and all the adults were focused on how punishment would affect the aggressors. I had such a horrible experience here that in my 9th grade year I wrote a 7 page narrative essay BRIEFLY summarizing everything that happened. the teacher read it and wanted to talk to me. all of this is disorganized thoughts and stories bout this place. but what I'm trying to say is that you should avoid this place. also. thank you to Mr Labrador for teaching me to be strong and refuse to take crap. thank you to Mrs Hudson for trying your best to help me. And I sense many more exclamation points throughout this review!! Friday's chill on the hill was the highlight of my week. There is an awesome mural on the side of the library building. Breadsticks with ranch or tomato sauce was my lunch of choice, i hope they still have it!! Weekly monkey bars tests and timed half mile runs and capture the flag and high jumps...oh how i miss PE. Learned to make french toast and rice krispie treats and eggs in a basket in home ec!! Middle school was some of the toughest years, but De Portola made it totally worthwhile!!

I would advise you to enroll your child in a school other than Dailard.
