This is an update of my 2017 review…read more I recently received an email from the gunsmith with whom I had arranged to restore my 20 gauge Purdy from the damage caused by Paul Lippold's "restoration." I include it below. .................................. Hello Peter, I'm afraid that I do not have good news for you. The damage done during the previous attempt at "restoration" of the gun just isn't able to be rectified to either my standards or in any cost-effective way. A number of times, I have pulled the gun from the rack to begin work on it and every time the same realization occurs. That being that what I mentioned above. I then put it back in disgust, thinking that maybe it was just my frame of mind, when, in reality, I was simply refusing to accept the reality of the situation. The primary problem is the amount of material that was removed from the face of the standing breech and the breechface of the barrels, and, the way in which it was removed. As I had initially determined, both surfaces had apparently suffered significant pitting and were ground and/or filed to remove the pitting. The material removal from the frame's breechface was done wihout first annealing the frame. This resulted in a surface that is not remotely flat, due to varying surface hardness. Correcting this would necessarily involve first annealing the frame and then truing the breechface surface (which means even more material removal). This is going to leave a gap of approximately .015 to .020 inches, meaning that that is how far the barrels will need to be set back. That also means that the new hinge pin will have to be larger in diameter by double that amount (because it is round). Setting the barrels back that far will cause the front of the rear lump to no longer be in contact with the frame (no longer fitted on the circle), which means that the hinge pin will now be the "reaction member" that reacts the forces upon firing. Also, the ornamental ribs of the forend iron will no longer meet their counterparts on the barrel flats, resulting in a visible gap on each side at that point. Then there is the extent of buffing wheel induced damage to all sharp edges and contours, to say nothing of the vise jaw damage to the frame. This can all be corrected but it will mean material removal to the extent that, when finished, none of the original engraving will have survived. All of the metalwork will be completely bald, including the rib address, meaning that engraving will have to be redone, in its entirety. Add to that the fact that every single screw must be remade, the gun stocked, checkered, finished, and so on. As I said, the damage is just too extensive." ...................................... To sum it up, Paul's "restoration" has made a $65,000+ gun worthless. Think cafefully before you give any firearm to this hack.

Went in for a cerakote job on a custom rifle that I fully disassembled. Was quoted 4-6 weeks…read morebecause cerakote man was busy or waiting bail or whatever ... after 5 months of checking in on how the far along the job was and receiving some other excuse of how some unfortunate circumstance unfolded, I gave up and said I'd pick my disassembled rifle up and have someone else do it. Mind you it's been media blasted and the steel has been in the raw for 5 months now. Magically it was done the following day. Not only did they cerakote my custom barreled action and various components, they cerakoted about 4" of my bore from muzzle end and much of the chamber as possible and stripped my $300 scope rings. I did receive a bunch of stickers though for what that's worth.

The store is HUGE, and has an ugly warehouse feel. They have every kind of craft item you can imagine (and some you can't), as well as a hefty dose of kitschy home decor stuff. The aisles didn't have signs that I could find, so I had to peer down each one to figure out if I was in the right neighborhood. I did find what I was looking for, though I was alarmed to see children playing with merchandise in the next aisle and eventually heard their parents prompting them to "clean up." I didn't realize this was a toy store... The kicker was that, as I approached the register, a cashier was asking her manager if she could leave, despite the fact that she was open and I was standing there with two items. She chuckled to me not to take it personally, haha, etc., but it kind of turned me off. The card reader also didn't work right, and I eventually had to slide my card the opposite way the arrows indicated. So I wouldn't usually come here, and my experience did nothing to change that. So long, Hobby Lobby.

The managers are rude and don't stick to the cardinal rule of, the customer is always right. Many times I've gone in there and seen % off sale signs on everything, but by the time I get to the counter, they say the items I've brought up are not included. This happened today, 30% off mens metal and wood decor, they had shotgun shell decorative lights directly next to the sign. After bringing the manager back to see that my mom and I weren't lying, she made up some bs excuse that it would also say lights on the sale sign as well. My response was that maybe they should be moved to where all the other decorative lights are, or holiday to avoid more confusion and what I got back was a rude no. Which brings me to my next point, why aren't all these sale in the computer? When you scan an item, at most stores the register will automatically ring it up and the sale price. Not at hobby lobby, the cashiers have to sit with the ad in front of them and go through it by hand to make sure your items qualify to be on sale. Really? In this day and age there should be no reason for confusion on sale items, but instead your left arguing with your cashier or your store manager about a poorly placed sign, because they apparently put items not on sale, by the sale items? Idk, that's what the manager told me and it makes no sense. I will NEVER go back after this last experience, even the cashiers knew we were in the right. Joann fabrics gained another customer, I only wish I could file a formal complaint with corporate. Don't waste your time on their price gimmicks, it's mostly bs to keep you coming back.
