I was hit for an extra $1,000 resort fee (MAP/Social) for a 4 night stay. They never mentioned this MAP/Social fee in the reservation process or listed on my confirmation under "Stay Total". Only far later in the confirmation do they show the "MAP/Social" fee and taxes. My fault for not asking or looking for all of the extra fees they charge. My cost (one person) in May 2026 for a standard room 4 nights (breakfast &dinner) and 8 rounds of golf was $6,800. The resort is very nice. The employees, food and service was very good.

Like most all of DR's designs there are a lot of bunkers. You'll be challenged by the green side bunkers that will create a challenge for you. Not that many fairway bunkers but a few that will get your attention. You won't come back to the Clubhouse on the Turn but you will find the 'Half-Way House' which will be a welcome pause for food and beverage. There were mixed reviews of the course from our group of 12 but everyone acknowledged it was a good experience since it was a DR Design. The one problem we all agreed on was the many permanent Cart Path Only holes.

A. and Josephine Poe. Mr. Poe owned Poe Brick Company. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is currently getting some much needed maintenance and painting done so make sure to check in advance if it will be open the day you want to visit. The guided tour takes about an hour. The house is a Victorian Style and built from a kit. The wrap around porch and the intricate detailing outside is impressive. The inside of the house is in great condition and has tall ceilings; wide doors and the woodwork is very impressive. It gives a glimpse into early 20th century life. The house has two staircases one for the family and another for the servants. The servants were provided living quarters. The kitchen is detached from the house as the oven was on all day. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful house.

One thing I didn't like was you weren't able to buy individual tickets online, you had to purchase 2 or more -- thus making it difficult for me to tell party goers to buy their own ticket. I understand why, but it was also a little inconvenient. We had a group of 6 and then 2 other people accompanied us. Unfortunately, it is currently June and hot as balls here. We also booked right when the governor made it a requirement to wear masks due to COVID, so policy for the tour was you must wear a mask... even if you're outside walking. If you don't have a mask, you have to buy one from your guide and they're $5. Lame, but whatever, keep everyone safe, right? Well, the tour started at the Fayetteville train station and went from there. I honestly feel like it would have been really interesting had our tour guide been more enthusiastic. He was very hard to hear, even with a megaphone, but also didn't really have a good practiced script and kind of stumbled through the entire tour, leaving me questioning how well he actually knew the information... then basically asked for tips at the end and left us feeling obligated to give him something. Would I take another tour from someone else? Perhaps. Is it worth the gamble? I'm not sure. I just didn't feel the magic, sorry!

Even though we didn't book until 2 hours before start time they were very accommodating. The only reason I'm not giving this tour 5 stars (I wish 4.5 was an option) is that there were some communication issues between the cafe and the tour company. Clients of the tour thought we would get 30% off of food and the cafe staff seemed to have no idea what we were talking about. Overall though, if I were in the city more than a day I would have definitely tried another one of their tours. Wonderful experience!

We saw egrets, osprey, herons and as we were heading back to dock, an osprey swooped down, caught a fish and took off - all right in front of the boat. A perfect ending to a great afternoon outing on the lake.

Played pinehurst #2 Was told from the pro shop the Caddie…read moretip was $50.00/ bag. After the round the caddie disputed the rate. Said they(The caddies) usually get $100 per bag. He stormed off. He acted pissed off when we only had $120 between the two of us. Everything else at the resort was amazing. Some of the best hospitality that I'm ever witnessed. If you plan on playing #2 I would no ask the caddie up front what their normal gratuity is.

Attended a conference I regularly attend. Previously stayed…read moreat Holly & The Manor. They were dumps. This time, I decided to stay at The Carolina, the main building, for $400/night. My room, 336, had the smallest, most uncomfortable, cramped bathroom in any place -- budget, moderate, luxury -- I've ever stayed. No place to put toiletries. Impossible for two persons. I received an on-line survey when I got home. I responded by stating much of the above. Their response? Crickets. Great golf courses, but avoid staying at the resort at all (unconscionable) cost.
