Taylor Farm is great for a day out with the family. It's also a good place to visit to just take a walk. Entry is reasonably priced. Parking is plentiful, but, be careful if a wedding is taking place or a wedding photo shoot, you might need to park around the corner! It is butted up to a beautiful set of gardens so the fun just seems to keep going on. The animals are kept healthy and look contented and happy. There is a wide selection of animals, from ducks to chickens, cows, sheep, pigs, goats and more, so the visit is truly a farm experience. It is a nice location to take school age children, either with family and friends or a full-fledged school outing with the whole class. There is enough information here for anyone seeking information about agriculture in Michigan to get a good start. There are short science events offered from time to time and seasonal events that are offered throughout the year. The nice thing about that is that for the seasonal events and to enjoy the decorations there is no additional charge. There may be some small additional charge added for special events or science presentations that require participation. A special treat for me has always been the interpretive signage in the barns that present the many different types of fowl, cows and other creatures. Yeehaw! It's always a nice time. Staff and management are friendly and knowledgeable. The buildings are partially powered by solar and wind power! There's a lot to see an learn. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it!

I was really excited when I found out that the petting farm @ Heritage Park is open year round. It has been typical Michigan up-n-down with the weather, and I was home this weekend, so I thought it might be nice to get out and see some animals. I had never been to the petting farm here, and wanted to check it out. At only $3 for non-Taylor residents, we were on our way! I pulled in, parked and went around to let Kolten out of his car seat... "What does your shirt say?" "Farmers like to do it in the dirt" "Oh MY gosh!" [with attitude, ha ha!] And into the reception center we go....nicely enough since Kolten is only a one year old, he got in free. There is this really sweet hand-painted cow in the building, which I snapped a picture of. Then you go on to the stable/barn...along the path there is a pond with koi fish and ducks... there is a little dock that juts out there too. The pond was really horrible looking... dirty and leaves everywhere in the bottom. There are benches along the path with dedication plaques on them, a neat touch. In the barn there isn't too much to see. I guess that was the only part I was a little disappointed about, that and that the animals didn't want to be petted. LOL! [Like anyone has control over that]. There was a pen of piglets....and they were so playful and cute-one nibbled my son's sandal but he didn't seem too interested in petting them. There were about 5-6 goats, about 6-7 sheep[which they shear in the beginning of April which sounds pretty cool to see], 2 alpacas, 2 donkeys, 2 chickens, 1 old cow, 1 mother hen, 1 large rabbit, and about 10 other bunnies. They let you in the pens with the pigs, sheep, or goats, and if they wander out into their outdoor pasture, you are free to follow them too. On our way out I bought two little bags of "Bunny Surprise Poop"...chocolate covered raisins...so cute!

This goat loved pets!

For my son and I, who are not residents of Taylor, it was only $8. I think its worth the value. The animals were clean and all friendly. You can tell they are cared for and socialized properly. The guy that was working in the bark told us about the animals, and their names. He was very friendly. We enjoyed ourselves and I would be glad to treat him to it again.

Petting the goat

My kids so into animals!!! While the place was small my kids loved it because they could touch the animals. Everyone was very friendly.

Botanical garden is free, small, great for pictures and weddings.

Don't forget to pack your bottled water and bug spray during the spring/summer months, and be sure to wear appropriate footwear for current hiking conditions. Several of the more rugged nature trails are NOT stroller-friendly, due to narrowing of trails and steep, rocky train in various areas, making tripping/falls a very serious hazard, as there is a steep drop off on either side of the trail in certain areas. If you have small children or are pushing a stroller, I suggest staying on paved paths that run the length of the park, situated between the main roadway and the woods. My family has personally encountered whole families of deer at this park, owls, eagles, coyote, and numerous species of birds and butterflies (particularly during summer months). This park features tons of play areas for the kids, with a new, large, modern Space-themed playscape meant to entertain kids of all ages and abilities. Tennis/racquet ball/pickleball and basketball courts available on a first-come first-serve basis. Numerous covered pavilions with grills for family cookouts, available for rent during summer months. Modern restrooms scattered throughout park. The park also features a water park, open during summer months for an additional charge (Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center), featuring a lazy river, large splash pad with dumping bucket, water slides, and zero-entry pools feat bubblers/spray features for the little ones. For about $50 (local residents), you can purchase an annual pass for the park itself (not including water park access, which must be purchased on top of general park entry fees). This park is gorgeous particularly during autumn months (my personal favorite time to visit), due to the abundance of trees and the colorful changing leaves visible in every direction. A great place to take family photos, with stunning natural backdrop! During the summer months it's common to spot fisherman on the pier within the park, on the banks of the lovely Huron River. A great place for families to unplug and enjoy some physical activity, in a large, picturesque park that never feels crowded regardless of how many people are there! 5 stars!

They had tennis courts for pickle ball and a good open field for volleyball, corn hole and fowling. There were about 6 rows of about 4 side by side picnic tables under the shelter. We needed the shelter while eating since it down poured some today. There is a small parking by the tennis court and school, another on the other side of the playscape and a bigger one by the school, but it was under construction.

There is also a paved walking/jogging trail. The covered pavilions have picnic tables under it, but I do not think there are any grills. You will have to bring your own. The park appears kind of old and is relatively maintained. It could use some lawn care. The two play grounds are on opposite ends of the park from each other, along with the pavilions. One play ground has older equipment. The other new playground (by the high school) is bigger and has more modern equipment. It has a huge jungle gym with slides, bridges, and poles. There is also a set of modern swings, a set of regular swings, and a dome climber over there as well. The older playground has a very small metal slide (ouchhhh, on those hot summer days), and two sets of worn swings that have seen better days. As an added bonus, the park has a couple of restroom facility and paved paths that could be used for walking. They are not very long so you would probably get bored running up and down them. The baseball/softball fields are world class and have lights. I think they are used for Allen Park rec league ball mostly, but can be rented. The same goes for the inline-skate rink. The park is located in the backyard of Allen Park High School and I found it hard to differentiate what facilities belonged to the park and which belonged to the school. This is a nice park and definitely worth a visit or planning a special event at. Whether it be a baseball tournament, tennis match, picnic, party, or walking your dog. It has tons of stuff to do.
