I have only biked this park. The best feature is the extensive size of this park. There is a dedicated pedestrian/biking path on one side of the park. Hines Drive runs through the center of the park and is wide enough to accomodate bikes. Some sections get a little tight, but you can steer back onto the asphalt path if you are on the right lane. Generally, heading west towards Ann Arbor has less traffic. At one point, a group of my friends took the trail onto connecting paths all the way to Ann Arbor. Aside from biking, the park has something for everyone. If you choose to drive, some areas have a parking alongside playgrounds, softball fields, golfing, gardens, and picnic area. Hines Park is the the great connector for numerous smaller parks. As with much of Michigan, the roads could be better maintained, but this green oasis is a gift to the greater Detroit metro area. read more

I used to live right by Hines Park and my childhood was filled with trips here for sledding, walks with our dogs, and meandering drives down Hines Drive to get from point A to point B in a more scenic way. Plus drives in the winter through the Lightfest lights show during the holidays and playdates in the playgrounds. Honestly, this park has everything you could need. It stretches miles so there's plenty of trails for long or short bike rides, runs, and more. Tons of picnic areas, beautiful scenic views like trees, waterfront, etc for easy fun while also social distancing. But there are also baseball fields, ton of picnic shelters, and more that make socializing easy in better days. It's a spectacular park and I'm so glad that I had access to it growing up and that it's still a lovely place for people to enjoy in the area. read more

A nice park with many different spots, you can drive thru, bike or walk. There are fishing spots, and playgrounds. During the winter ( Christmas time) there is a holiday light fest. The park itself is free but the light fest is for a small fee. read more

Hines Park has everything! It's not actually one 'park,' but a whole bunch. Hines Drive (the road through the park) is 40mph the whole way, so even just driving through is relaxing and gives an opportunity to just watch nature roll by. It's not unusual to see deer and other critters. There are also many, many activities at the park. Just today I saw that they're getting ready for the giant light display for the holidays. According to their website, it's the Midwest's largest Holiday Light Show! (It should be, to be able to get a preview in mid-October of a show that doesn't start til November 20.) In the summer there are also canoe and other boat rentals at different parks within the Park. I've grown up exploring Hines Park from Ford Rd. up to Northville and can say that it was a joyful time. And yes, there are lakes and the Rouge River which dot the way. We usually tobogganed down "Mount Trashmore" near Middlebelt, and Cass Benton out near Northville. Bike riding was our freedom! Go anywhere, see anyone! read more

Hines Park is nice; it's a basic park with places to play, open sports fields, pavilions, and bike routes. I think the pavilion rental is on the less expensive side. They also host the annual Christmas lights display which is always fun for kids and adults alike. read more

It's a nice park and a fun bike ride with some decent hills for Michigan. Enjoyed the scenic views of the river and the treescape. I wish the bike trail went into the woods more, but what can you do? One warning: GET OUT OF THIS PARK BEFORE SUNSET! Holy cow you're like a terrorist suspect if your car happens to still be parked in the park come twilight. I got a warning sticker and had cops flashing their lights at me. Good to know that I was 'safe.' Once that sun starts setting get in your car and run for the hills! read more

My favorite place to run! I am an avid runner and I absolutely love running here! It should be said that it is more than 15 miles long and runs from Dearborn to Northville, so there is no lack of variety in terrain, distances and scenery. There are alot of places to park and quite a few bathroom stops (just in case). It isn't just a good place to run either, there are baseball diamonds, playgrounds, picnic tables and even a dog park. Entrance to the park is always free and on weekend mornings the park is closed to vehicle traffic so runners and bikers have free reign of the roads. read more

Hines Park is very nice. I take my little niece there to play sometimes. One year we went there for the marshmallow drop and she really had a lot of fun. The parking wasn't bad for as busy as it was and the Easter Bunny was there which she loved. There were police officers there making sure that everyone was safe. Nice park. I live on one end of the park, the beginning or the end, depending on how you look at it! Because of this I'm only familiar with some of the areas around Northville and Plymouth.., I haven't spent much time around the other side, except for the Wayne County Lightfest- a yearly Christmas lights display which you drive through. Awesome in theory, in reality I didn't love it (but I'm also a bit of a grinch, so it's probably just me). The actual park however I do love! It seems like every half a mile there's a different recreation area. Meads Mill, Cass-Benton, Bennet Arboretum.. they just keep coming! Hines Drive is a seemingly never ending road of beautiful nature, baseball, playgrounds, trails, ponds, picnic shelters and more! Specificaly Cass-Benton is super popular for two reasons: cross country and disc golf. During the summer months the area is flooded with groups throwing frisbees around, people biking, walking and running. In winter there's a huge hill here which makes for awesome sledding.. because it's so tall you'll be going down really fast! read more

Hines Park in one word - serenity Its a nice place to chiill out and enjoy nature. Around Christmastime you can enjoy the Wayne County Lightfest and they even added a Santa for pictures if that's your thing, it certainly is mine. If you are a biker or a jogger, this is a great place that you might enjoy. If you are looking for a nice relaxed car ride to clear your head while listening to tunes, this place would definitely be your ish. I personally enjoy some relaxing 80's and 90's music as a backdrop to this calming car ride. (Yo Oasis.......What up Doe) Tip - Hines Park is known for its gay scene, if that's your thing. It's not mine, but I am all for it. A few of my gay friends love coming here for more privacy and the relaxing aatmosphere and that's a good thing, especially in this nice relaxing and beautiful area. read more

I grew up down here, moved to northern Michigan a few years ago, so being back down here,I love driving in Hines park to relax, and pretending I'm back up north. Now, you can't really complain about this place flooding, that's the purpose of the park is to flood, so that all of our nice homes and businesses do not. Multi propose park, serves in so many ways people don't really think of, without it, things wouldn't be so easy. Also, there's a dog park that looks really cool. I wish I still had my dog, take full advantage of that. Maybe once my kid is old enough, I'll take her here for a bit off training, ha! read more

Great place to Bike ride, Jog or sit and read a book. I did go here for the Christmas Light show and the traffic was terrible. I go every year and never seen it like this. It has become pretty popular. I never went through. My friend and I decided to forgo it for now. This is not the parks fault. This has obviously not the parks fault. The word has got out. I love Hines park! Hines park is perfect if your a bike rider and looking to get some exercise in. It may not seem like it, but it's very hilly...at least to a bike rider lol, so there's all levels of incline to get that burn in. Hines park is also home of the Wayne county light show, which comes every Christmas season. The park is lit up with Christmas displays for miles. Upon reaching the end of the course, you'll find a small Christmas house and mailbox. The mailbox is perfect for dropping letters off to Santa, so load the kids up! They'll love riding through the park and admiring the Christmas lights. Not only that, the Christmas house, houses Santa and the family can take a picture with Santa! You'll also find warm hot chocolate, popcorn and arts and crafts! Put it on the to do list this Christmas season! read more

I live near Hines Park, so I get to take Hines Drive to work and back. I always think of how fortunate we are to have such a huge, beautiful park in Wayne County. It's a great place to run/walk/jog, ride bikes, take the kids and dogs to play, have picnics and family reunions, and sled in the winter. On Saturdays this summer, they're closing the park to car traffic so people can bike, run, etc., without worrying about traffic. read more

I love taking my dog to Hines Park. We have two favorite areas we go to. Both have the serenity of nature filled with trees and close to the river thats filled with geese. A lot of people fish here. It so relaxing to be out and surrounded by nature. You will see bike riders, runners and roller bladers going up and down the path. Its nice to spend time here. read more

It is misnamed here. To get more info online check 'Hines Drive'. Limited access from cross streets which is good if you want to walk or bike. Traffic heavier currently as route is used more due to I96 closure. Like everything in Wayne County lacks maintainence. And if biking, be aware there are a few sections where you have to get in the road. But the bike lane is great and other riders give. Heads up when passing; good because I start to day dream. Down side is too many animal carcasses, which happens where ever you ride on a shoulder. And some nice areas to sit quietly and enough provided the Rouge River isn't too smelly. read more

It is the ultimate fitness mecca in the Western Wayne county! The Tonquish creek hiking and biking trails, the par course between Ann Arbor Trail and Merriman is a great workout site along the Middle Rouge River. I've been to Hines Park twice, once down in Dearborn and once way up in Northville. Both times I was running. It's pretty super--a nice long course to run; free parking is abundant; there are bathrooms pretty regularly (not sure if they close in the winter, though). It's just slightly hilly, which makes for a better workout. I do have to say that the scenery was pretty monotonous, at least at the end of summer. I kind of expected it to be more scenic. And it's certainly pleasant, but not nearly as interesting a place to run as Belle Isle or the Riverwalk in Detroit. I'll definitely try to hit it when fall comes around. A super place to train, anyway, and the folks who were there for picnics and so forth seemed pretty pleased too. read more

A great place to enjoy nature and picnic or just a serene slow drive w/o the hustle and bustle of mile after mile of strip malls and 4 lane harried commuters on your rear bumper-no speeding here or it will quickly get you a ticket-it is a parkway after all not a speedway. There are plenty of picnic tables or the very large covered type tables available, a small & a large dog fenced in locked dog park (you must pay a yearly fee and verify vaccinations for all dogs-and patrolling police randomly stop and DO CHECK to make sure that you have your validation/lockcode in hand), very clean toilet facilities, a bike rental at Nankin Mills, a huge lake or two for fishing one even has a boat rental if you feel like really getting out there to fish. The seasonal winter light festival is not to be missed for a small charge ($5), to drive thru at night when the parkway is closed to thru traffic.. Lots of great hill for sledding down when it snows, baseball or soccer game areas, huge play area for children. The parkway meanders from Ford Road in Dearborn all the way thru Northville and ends, I believe, at 7 mile by ' Northville Downs'. The parkway is closed at 9 am on Saturdays for bicycles, joggers and others of that type to enjoy w/o worrying about cars. Unfortunately I don't know the re-open for cars but I think its around 3pm. The parkway will close at times after heavy rains as it is a natural flood plain for the river running thru it. read more
