So I came into town and had to catch a mid-morning flight so I needed to get my tanks filled. I had limited options at 8 o'clock in the morning. Propane is running between $2.50-3.10 in the Knoxville area. This place is selling it for $3.97/#. I kid you not. I called UHaul they were right at $3 but were out. Anyway, when she told the price I started laughing and said "are you kidding?". She then responded- our "guys are certified and we have to pay them a decent wage." in an almost condescending tone. She repeated her comment in that same tone. Listen, I get Propane tank filling school can be challenging (nursing school sucked too). I appreciate the need for safety. I also appreciate the need for a decent wage. However I don't appreciate the condescending attitude. I finally swapped the small tank at Walmart and will wait for Costco. I am consumer that lives on a budget. So when you're NOT competitive I would recommend you not having an attitude. I hope, and I'm sure they do, treat their commercial customers better because they don't give a crap about their retail ones. read more

One of the worst companies in the world!!! They had been filling my 100# tanks for years then when I called to get them refilled they informed that they no longer provided this service. No notice, no apology, nothing. Everyone that I have talked with in this company has been uncaring and even rude!!! Finally,decided that I would take the tanks someplace to have them filled and found that the last time Heritage filled the tanks they used old tanks than will now have to be recertified. Bought gas logs from them about 5 years ago with the understanding they would come out to my home and switch out tanks when I needed a refill. Today I called and asked to have two (100 lb ) tanks switch out. To my surprise I was informed they did not do that any longer and I would have to bring them in to the office to switch out. How in the hell am I supposed to carry 100 ib tanks in. They are very heavy and would require a truck and at least two people. I am 69 years old with a bad back so I have two 100 lb empty tanks in my yard that are useless to me. If I had known this I would never have bought a $600.00 set of logs from them. Go to Country gas, they will at least come out and refill your tanks. read more

No local contact. They are now AmeriGas and awful. After 10 years with this Heritage. Tpheir service is now horrible. We ordered a propane delivery and they charged our account then cancelled the order kept the money . We called and they rescheduled the delivery for a second time. I've only used them for refilling my personal propane tanks, but they get 5 stars for this service. It's quick and will cost you so much less than at a bottle exchange or other propane filling location. A standard, 20 pound grilling cylinder can be refilled for less than $15 here. read more

This is the WORST propane company in the area. Was satisfied with my propane service until Heritage purchased my previous service provider. Since then, HORRIBLE service. Cannot get them on the phone, every-single-item (freeze account, pump out order, etc) has to go through a single manager who is NEVER in the office. Was on the auto fill route. Charged outrageous price for gas (4.60 ish when market price from other companys was around 2.50) in early Fall 13 (before the propane shortage). This propane company's employee left the bleeder valve on our tank when it was filled, allowing gas to spread throughout our house and the area. Then when I called them, they said I couldn't really smell the gas (their slip says an additive is put into the gas to make it smell so you can smell leaks). They said they would send someone, but no one came. After we had the problem fixed by someone else, I called Heritage three times, leaving messages twice and once they hung up me. I just returned home after wasting an hour of my time (round trip) and driving over 15 mile (each way) because of Heritage. I called before going, and was told they fill butane bottles. So I drive the distance. Upon arriving, they tried to locate the person who "does the filling". Finally, they came out and said he was on the phone, and for me to drive to the refill area and he would be out. After unsecuring my bottle and unloading it, I waited about 15 mins, the office lady finally came out. Not to fill my bottle, but to tell me that they couldn't get the "pump" running. Really? Why didn't the man come out and tell me, and why didn't they tell me they had this problem when I called them????? I think maybe he didn't want to get off the phone or come out in the cold from his warm building. She named off some places I could go to (5-10 miles further). If there's any consolation, it's that I didn't pay their overinflated price of $3.99 per gal... (I should have read their reviews before going, it's evident that I'm not the only "invaluable" customer!) I'm VERY sure they won't miss my business, or care, but I'll NEVER return to this place for my butane!!!! read more

We have been using Heritage for MANY years and they just get worse. Their business office cheated us out of a credit they promised us due to a ridiculous price on gas last year. It disappeared and we never got that credit. Two weeks ago driver came by to fill tank and we told him we didn't want any more until next fall. This week I walked out and a different driver was filling the tank. It's warm outside and they are sneaking around filling tanks! And at $2.49/gallon! I called and their office said two trucks service this route but they don't really keep track. So basically they just stop and fill it even after you told them not to....so they sent us a $62 bill fo putting gas we did not want. We were thinking about buying our own tank...but now we'll have to use up this gas in the fall then have them remove it. Unorganized! I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

We moved into our home with two new propane tanks and enrolled in their exchange program. This year I lost my job, so we wanted to get our tanks filled ourselves to save money. One of the tanks they left us had not been certified in several years, so we couldn't get it filled ourselves. They refuse to provide us with a certified tank and want to charge us $104 dollars to bring us a full one. We got one filled at Costco for less than $50. They should at least provide us with a certified tank since they took our two news ones 8 years ago and they were both good for 12 years read more

When I called to set up services back in December I was told there would be a $75 charge for them to come out and $60 for them to check the system plus local taxes. Lady said they would check the tanks and if they needed to be replaced they would do that and would check for leaks and show us how to work our unit. My husband and I budgeted for $150 for this. There was also issues with the service I received on the phone. I called on December 23 to reschedule our appointment date because of a work conflict. She said the schedulers were gone until Monday and someone would call back on that following Monday to reschedule. I waited and no one ever called. I figured they didn't get the message so I called them today to see if they were coming out still and they said that we had cancelled the appointment. This person tells me they will call me back later to reschedule. Next call I get is the technician telling me he is on my way to my home. My husband had to leave work to rush home after already taking his lunch break once. When the guy leaves our house my husband tells me our bill is $400. I was pissed. For one if I had been home I would have told him to not do anything. That is not what Tammy told me. When I called to talk to someone about our charges Tammy answers the phone. Shocker. She denied telling me that and says she tells everyone that they have to pay $125/ tank to remove and that the first bill is huge. Lies!! She then said I probably didn't have good signal and was driving and I didn't hear her. I was at home. Sitting on my couch and heard everything crystal clear. I'm so beyond frustrated!! I will not continue using Heritage Propane!!! I'll pay this bill because they took my social and will probably report me if not paid in full. I work in customer service and cannot stand how she made it all my fault and took no responsibility. When I told her I will try and find some money somewhere to pay it she just said maybe you will. You never know. Good things may happen. I want someone in management to call me! Update: the guy that showed my husband how to use the gas unit had trouble getting it to work. Wall switch worked while he was here but now it doesn't. Got our bill and it ended up being $192. Better than the $400 dollars that Tammy said it would be. The message when you call is that customer service is their priority. I purchased a cylinder for our gas logs on Monday the 5th - it was not delivered until Friday the 16th. I had to call twice to get it delivered. Poor customer service! Their website was down, so I could not send them an email regarding the situation. Very disappointing! read more

Tried to call today to complain and mid morning on a Monday an automated msg saying office not available to take calls. The time it takes for refills is ridiculous. Ordered a refill on 12/12 and its 1/5 and still waiting! Called 12/30 and was told I would get a call back in a few minutes, hours later I called back and said driver would be here 1/2 and never showed. Unacceptable! Told it could be 7-10 business days and they could not tell when the service would be done when I called on 12/12. I guess its because they come when they feel like it. Very dissatisfied and I feel like I am going through a call center now for help. This is not the first time I have had problems with this company but will be the last. Maybe they have just gotten too big to properly provide good customer service to their residential customers. read more

If there was any other company left not associated with Heritage, I would be using them. Heritage has bought up every independent and once it happens service goes bad and prices go up. Won't answer calls, won't return calls, extremely long waits for delivery. Unfortunately this isn't a recent problem with this company--their bad service goes back decades. read more

By far the worst gas company I have ever done business with. We are on a pre-pay service with them, cause we are renting this house. It is the middle of winter. I was instructed to call when we were at 20%, which we have twice. And BOTH times they have let us run out of gas. Middle of winter. Two young children in the house. It takes all of 10 minutes for the tech to fill our tank and when you have a customer that has PRE-PAID, you should send a driver right out. I will never recommend them. Awful company. read more

Extremely slow response times. The service guy was great when he came out. The office staff is not knowledgable nor do they answer the phones. They are not customer-oriented at all. I purchased tanks 3 weeks ago and was told they'd last through the winter. 3 weeks later my tank went out.I called and left several messages on a Monday, I finally got through and spoke to someone on that Friday. I asked if one of the techs could call me just to walk me through lighting my pilot right, etc. since I've never used gas before and wanted to make sure everything was working smoothly. I was told yes. The following week, I was told they couldn't give out the number to the techs, they couldn't have a tech call me either. I was told I'd have to pay $75 for them to come out and do a service call. They had a day, but couldn't give me a time or even a window. So I guess they want me to take an entire day off work to sit around waiting for a tech to show up. A 4 hour window would've been fine and allows for scheduling for the tech and the customer. I decided to just use another company for future refills and services. I suggest you do as well. read more

I ordered propane for my son 5 days ago I know they say there is a shortage and they are busy with the cold weather. But you would think if you tell them your out of propane and have two small children in home they would come out there right a way. I have to say they did come out last Thursday and I told them to call me so I could be there to pay them as it takes me 40 minutes to get there but no call and my son is a single father and he was at work and they never left any. But last November I had canceled the order and they came out right away and left the propane without being paid. I don't understand why they couldn't leave it this time oh that's right because I canceled last time! I so with that said he will have to look into other options. .Forgot to mention he has lived there 3 years and always gets propane from them. I went down and payed them last Thursday and still no propane. 8 degrees tonight. They won't answer phones and if you do get through they will tell you the guys have the slips.
