I finally gave in ... as a reluctant German who spent most of her adult life avoiding meat and who hates terrible branding, I did a good job of avoiding Herman (don't make me say the rest) despite everyone raving about it. Until now .... Sausages are just the perfect lunchtime alternative if you are fed up with sandwiches but don't fancy investing time and money in a proper meal. The choice was a bit overwhelming, but I get the feeling you can't really go wrong. Unless you are veggie, of course, in which case your choice is limited to exactly one option - one more than in Germany! I felt opting for Currywurst would have been too easy and asked for an option including Sauerkraut. Can't remember the name of the sausage but it was tasty, especially once I covered it in mustard (not too hot, not too sweet) and ketchup (not Heinz) - the crispy onion sprinkles were complimentary and took me right back to being a teenager. As you can probably tell by my condiment excitement, I usually avoid fast food outlets - this may not have been the last exception.

What find. I just loved this place. Reminds me of a taste of Berlin when I visited there and discovered the currywurst. Great friendly service here and nice choice of fast food. Licensed too so can also grab some good German beers. I went for a hot large bockwurst. My friend had the chilliwurst and was well hot at the end. Good job he don't go hotter with the sauce. Want to come back and try a hotter sauce. Just wish we had one of these places in brum Not the cheapest for fast food. £32 for two with beers. But worth it for if you are currywurst fan

Herman Ze German is probably my favourite quick meal restaurant in London. It is the one place that I recommend to every single one of my friends, whether they live in London or if they are visiting. I haven't had the opportunity to try any of the non-sausage menu items. But out of the things that I have tried, nothing has been short of amazing. The sausage in a roll meal option is very economical and tastes great. The chilli sausage is not too spicy while the garnishes are excellent. I usually go for the chilli sausage with crispy onions and sauerkraut however I've had the Currywurst as well. The curry sauces are all amazing and if you can handle the spice, I definitely recommend the spiciest sauce (I believe it's called burner or ringer). The frites are definitely the best I've had ever. #onpoint. They are never oily and are always cooked to crispy perfection. The beer options are excellent and you can even have a stein option. However, my favourite thing about Herman are the German soda options. The Fitz-Kola and Fritz-Lemon taste amazing and is usually what I order.

We took a takeaway for breakfast the next morning it was still very good pretty fast reasonable. But we wish we were in Vienna

I stumbled across this place as I waited for an event over the road, and I'm so glad I did. The food is surprisingly cheap for the area it's located in, meaning my pork and veal sausage smothered in crispy onions and happiness came in under a fiver. It was fairly filling, but I could have eaten another one straight after!

Bockwurst in a roll. The wurst was smaller than the bun.

I wish I can say the same thing as other customers, or at least eat the same thing as others. Instead, what was served to me as I ordered a bockwurst in a roll with crispy onions is a poor excuse of a German hot dog. The bun was very stall, hard to bite in, while the wurst itself tastes like packaged sausage, very small in size. It is very bland and definitely not smoky. The crispy onions did not help but rather gave the roll a drier texture. Overall it did not live up to its image and especially the price. On the other hand, service was okay, attentive and helpful. The ambience is pretty laid back, it would be a nice place to hang out with friends, if not for the quality of the food.

We were in town & were craving a good hot dog so we decided to stop by her after the zoo. We got the one of their specials with jalapeños tasted great came with fries for 7.95 plus we got a Cuba libre cocktail tasted amazing & went perfect with our hotdog overall recommend this place. Customer service is great also.

Really good German sausages and great service. The currywurst with chilli sauce is the best one with the lemonade. I also have to say, some of the waitresses are super gorgeous!

    Bratwurst in a roll!

When you're craving wurst, Herman Ze German hits the spot! For Americans like me who did not know, currywurst is sausage topped with a ketchup tomato-based sauce with curry spices - quite delicious and reminiscent of chili. For a little over £5, I got a bratwurst sausage, topped with currywurst and crunchy fried onions in a roll. For about £1 more, you can add a generous side of seasoned pommes frites. Everything was tasty, friendly service, and they have a nice selection of German sodas. Great lunch spot!

    Soooooo good!

Had a really yummy lunch here - I went for the bratwurst in a bun with cheesey pommes, while my husband has curry wurst and chips, piled high with curry sauce, onions and jalapeños. Both choices proved delicious and were delivered speedily to our table - always a bonus when you're grabbing lunch of a workday. I've been told (and can well believe) that it gets very busy later in the week, but I wouldn't mind having to queue for a wurst as delicious as this.

Pork schnitzel with a side of salad

I came here on a random weekday and the place was pretty empty. I had no idea why I decided to have such a heavy lunch, but I ordered the pork schnitzel with a side of salad and fries. Pork Schnitzel: I originally wanted the chicken schnitzel, but they were out that day. I opted for the pork schnitzel instead. It literally tasted like crispy pankoed bacon. Except the cut wasn't pork belly. It just had the smoky flavor of bacon. Delicious. Dill Aioli/dressing: I usually don't like dill, but this was great! Wasn't too sure if it was for the schnitzel or the salad. Either way, I used it for both. Salad: This salad... I don't even know why, but it was so good??? I think it was the sweet granny smith apples. Maybe the dill aioli? Fries: Pretty standard. Would recommend to try at least once!

Curry wurst and its pork schnitzel are the best. Their frites (chips) also perfect crisp and salty enough. I also love their flavoured beer.

Best hog dog in London? You bet!…read more I have sampled a Big Apple hot dog on a couple of occasions and if different locations, but the most memorable was at Grillstock in Bristol. I was there for the weekend, so on the Saturday I treated myself to a 'Huge Pole' a succulent 8 inch beef & pork dog sausage seasoned with sage, mace and cayenne peppe, a real mouth fall, really delicious! Then on the Sunday we were back, my mate Dave was chatting away to the owner Abiye and the topic food challenges came up, then Abiye laid down the challenge, some guy had done a double 'Huge Pole' but someone needed to take it up a notch, yep, that guy was me. The Triple Pole: The deal was I had to fit a everything in my gob and have a bite, then I had to finish the beast and If I completed the challenge, the 'Triple Pole' would be on Abiye. Guess what? I demolished it with ease, and the main reason was the standard of those sausages, so tasty I manged three of the buggers and that's why Big Apple Hot Dogs is the best hot dog in London.

They make hot dogs sexy with a load of creations. It is unfair to compare. Top dog are their own breed (sorry). Firstly the service was faultless, perfect staff. Secondly the beer. They have a few good beers on sale. You know the hipster craft stuff that is all the rage. Last but not least the hot dogs. Has a BBQ and a chilli one. It was good. I really enjoyed. But, I can't help but feel I wouldn't pay for a hot dog like these for the price it is. A bit too much. I feel hot dogs should be a bit cheaper price point. Hot Dougs were dirt cheap (around £2.50! For simple ones). Hot Dougs also had some crazy versions like confit duck or even fois gras. I feel top dog is onto something but need to push some versions (specials?) more or drop the price for the standard type ones. It just didn't feel fulfilling enough for the price. One of the latest arrivals in the heart of London's Soho is TOP DOG, which as the same suggests specialists in hot dogs in a variety of glorious forms. I was lucky enough to be invited to Top Dog for an exclusive pre-launch menu tasting where I, as well as a host of other journos and influencers were given the chance to sample THE ENTIRE menu (in mini form!) and give our feedback on everything from presentation to price, names and everything in between. It was genuinely one of the coolest things I've had the opportunity to do; to have a new business welcome, and even encourage, our honest feedback to help them grow and to get it right. Top Dog is the brainchild of mega-super-businesswoman Marissa Hermer (you may recognise her from Bravo's Ladies of London) and her husband, leisure entrepreneur Matt. Marissa, a food and beverage brand management consultant, also own restaurants, bars and clubs in London and internationally, so the restaurant world is nothing new. Overseeing the new franchise is Fortnum & Mason CEO (and GQ Innovator of the Year 2014), Ewen Venters. I was lucky enough to work with Ewen during my time at Selfridges, so I was excited for this partnership. the venture is a self-funded dream, mainly started thanks to Marissa's desire to find a quality, American-style hot dog in Britain. Top Dog serves a range of taste bud-tingling hot dogs, all made from organic meat, in a range of classic and specialty ways. All of the meat is cured, smoked and hung in London, add a British element to the American theme, and ensuring quality of produce. There's even tofu dogs for veggies! There's also a selection of mouth-watering side options, from fries (and amazing sweet potato fries) to pulled pork, cabbage, slaw and chili; all which are available on your dog too! Then there's the shakes, including salted caramel, chocolate and vanilla as well as a Jack Daniels float. The Jack Daniels float was probably the greatest ways I have ever ingested alcohol. Period. I also need to take a moment to talk about the brownies. These aren't just any brownies, they are just about the best brownies I have ever eaten. We are talking so seriously soft that you can hear the moisture as you tear it apart. As for the taste? I ate three in a row so that should answer that one. Top Dog is a really exciting addition to the Soho line up. I love that they have worked really hard to integrate into the psyche of the neighborhood; it seamlessly blends in. Where as other eateries, that shall remain nameless, have exploded onto the street uncaring for the aesthetics of Soho and now cause a jarring view for Soho lovers. Continuing the idea of becoming part of the neighborhood, a nod also needs to be paid to the Top Dog's awareness of it's local clientele - during London Pride, Top Dog renamed it's signature Soho Dog to the Pride Dog, with one pound from each sale going to a LGBT charity. Good food and good for the soul. WINNING. Head to my profile for more reviews of London restaurants and find out more, including pictures, on my blog, The Science of Appearance.
