General stores. I love that description. It's a catch-all for a place with a little of almost everything. In this case, I almost think gift store might be a better description. It's a gift store with a home decor, kids clothes and toys, kitchen stuff, candles, and mostly caters to tourists, I think. There's nothing wrong with that, and Hermann General Store it does a good job of it. For someone looking to buy a souvenir of a visit to Texas, but aren't quite sure what works (except that it can't be one of those magnets, mugs, or fake hats you can get anywhere), a place like this is perfect. On the other hand, while there are touristy things here, there's an equally large number of things that are firmly in the category of things you didn't know you needed, but have to get. It's fun. Locally made t-shirts, jewelry, towels, decorative mailboxes and the like, along with Texas-made jams, jellies, BBQ sauce, salsa, and packaged seasonings all entice you to buy something. Because many of the wares are locally made, they have a unique look. In addition, if you need kids' clothes and accessories, Hermann's has some really cute stuff. It's a nice store to pick up some gifts for others, or better yet, yourself. read more

We recently bought a king size hybrid mattress from Hermann's and were not happy with it once we slept on it one night. The then manager was not a lot of help. They offered to exchange it for one of their other hybrid mattresses but they weren't any better and that was the only kind of mattress there was. Just a FYI. They do not accept returns or refund your money if you are not happy with the mattress. We are now out $2500 and ending up buying another one at Mattress Firm. read more

Friend and I stopped by during a day trip. While they have a lot of cool home goods and furniture, I found it distressing that the staff was not wearing masks as per the governor's order. They were not enforcing their patron's use of masks either or adhering to occupancy limits. They are putting their staff and potential customers at risk. Enter at your own risk. read more

I drove from Austin JUST to go to Hermann Furniture and it was well worth it! Staff are patient, knowledgeable, helpful and amazing. I was looking for chairs and fabric and was helped mainly by Fred - she was so patient, and helpful, as was everyone in the store. I think I was in there 3 hours and could have stayed longer with so much to see. They have beautiful and unique things that can't be found any where else and their prices are less than what you would expect for such a large and diverse collection. They offer a huge selection but offer small town hospitality and amazing customer service. If I could offer more than 5 stars, I would! read more

They do a great job decorating but very stuffy feel and not a welcoming experience when we walk in the doors.

Locals warned me that Hermann's furniture was "pricey." Having only shopped for furniture at national retailers, I didn't find that to be the case at all. Hermann's prices are reasonable and compare well with similar retailers given the style/quality of the furniture. I was also impressed with Hermann's inventory. Their buyer is well aware of contemporary trends and is also willing to take risks with one-of-a-kind pieces of an edgier style. It's also awesome that Hermann's offers free delivery for local addresses. That being said, be prepared for some customer service glitches that cause delays in delivery and a sometimes less than stellar customer experience. read more

Hermann Furniture Store is different from Hermann General Store. The furniture store is a great store, we furnished our new home completely from Hermann's; large and small items, mattresses, lamps, rugs etc. They are friendly, helpful and have decorators in house for assistance if needed. You can order anything you wish from their catalogues if your desired item is not in the store. Delivery is prompt. WE LOVE IT. read more
