However, from the moment she arrived, the staff and residents made her feel welcomed, valued, and engaged. On her very first day, she was introduced to another resident who showed her around and helped her quickly connect with others. The staff has been exceptional--friendly, attentive, and always ready to help without making her feel like a burden. The variety of activities keeps her busy all day, and she's even enjoying things she never expected to like, along with many of her favorites. I love hearing her say, "They have so much for me to do, I don't have time to stay in my apartment!" The food is delicious and offers plenty of variety, and the facility itself is beautiful--more like a luxury hotel than a traditional assisted living community. The well-maintained grounds and lovely landscaping have her excited for the milder weather so she can relax outdoors among the flowers in the many seating areas with rocking chairs and benches. Sancerre Atlee Station truly lives up to its mission of fostering connections and enhancing shared experiences. Their warm, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service have made my mom's transition incredibly smooth, and both she and I highly recommend this community for anyone seeking a vibrant, supportive, and beautifully maintained assisted living environment.

They advertise using an app to keep families informed and we were also told this on the tour. Upon move in only a couple weeks later we are told they are "moving" away from that app. They have an app to pay rent but that doesn't work either and they won't provide login info because they are also moving away from that. I am completely in the dark about what is going on with my father. Is he eating, taking his medicine, participating in activities, etc.? They are still using a pad and paper at the front desk to have residents sign themselves in and out as they come and go. Why is this done on a computer so the entire staff has access? Am I really supposed to believe if the nurse comes to give his medicine and he isn't there, she is going to walk to the front desk and thumb though the pages to see where he is and when he is coming back? Food is good but they advertise 7am-7pm. Then upon move in my Dad is told he can't get breakfast until 8am, even though all the signs around the dining area still say 7-7. May seem like small stuff but it adds up when you are spending nearly $8,000 a month and not getting any information. THere were other far less expensive options but I was under the impression we would be getting more than those other places offered. I was wrong.

I had no idea where to go. Joe helped me review options around the Richmond, VA area for nursing care/rehab sites with physical, occupational and speech therapy. Gregg was able to receive excellent rehab for 3 weeks before we again were denied continued nursing care and had to move to our final option, assisted living. Joe joined me during the interview process at multiple facilities in the area to seek a good fit for Gregg regarding both nursing care and rehab care. Although Gregg had made strides in his rehab, his level of nursing care was deemed too involved for two of the more "prestigious" assisted living facilities in the area. I was very discouraged by this setback, but Joe and his wife, Judy, were exceptional in their emotional and spiritual support and kept me moving forward. Our third search was fruitful and Gregg received the best care I could have imagined for the next 10 months of his life. Through all of this journey, the Gallaghers kept in touch with us--they were never more than a phone call, text or email away and Joe visited Gregg at his new residence several times a month and even more during his last few weeks. Joe and Gregg shared a bond of faith, tears and hope that lifted both of them. Although Gregg was at peace with the treatments and outcomes he faced, he was even more so after spending time with Joe. Through our relationship with the Gallaghers, Gregg was able to receive therapy and hospice care at the assisted living facility. Joe's knowledge of Gregg as a person helped us find all the best support we needed. Even after his passing, the Gallaghers have kept touch with me and our two sons. Our family has been blessed to have had the Gallaghers by Gregg's side through his disease. We have met two new friends and grateful for their outreach even after Gregg's death.

Having been in another facility where her care fell short of her needs, I searched the local area to find a facility that I thought could provide the care she needed. That led me to Poet's Walk which has turned out to be the right choice. From the moment that my family and I toured the Poet's Walk facility, seeing the staff at work with the patients, I was left with a feeling that they knew what they were doing and the level of care that my wife needed would be available. The staff works well with each other; each residence is assigned to a specific Care Partner. They assist each other as necessary for the proper care of each resident. In watching the care partners at work, most really show care for the residence. The building was thoughtfully designed. There are two U-shaped wings for the resident's rooms with a dining room for each wing. Each wing is connected to a central area that is called the Main Street. From the Main Street area there is an outside courtyard that allows the residents to enjoy being outside on nice days, surrounded and protected by the surrounding building. My wife and I often sit outside in the courtyard and enjoy being outside among the flowers, many of which are taken care of by the residence that have that ability. The Main Street area allows the residents to gather and enjoy the many programs that are designed for their abilities and pleasure. On my daily visits to my wife, I often watch them play games of different types and see the enjoyment they get from the entertainment often provided. Although my wife is unable to participate, she does enjoy watching the activities. My wife and I eat together daily at lunch. I really enjoy feeding her and look forward to our time together. She eats breakfast and dinner with the assistance of a care partner. The food is good and might be considered excellent for this type of facility. It has improved considerably over the past few months. Organization in the dining room has gotten better but patients is required by all as the staff must assist the residence to get to the dining rooms and then sort out the correct type of food for each resident. This all takes time sometimes causing a wait to eat. Poet's Walk is well managed. I see and talk to the different section directors, almost on a daily basis. They are always open to suggestions and strive to find a better way to do things, evidenced by the changes that have take place, always to the better. Is Poet's Walk perfect? Of course not but I can say with confidence that management is working on getting there. Gerald and Gloria Sutts

2/24/22: Where do I begin? We've been searching for a senior assisted living facility with a memory…read morecare option for my grandmother for months now. She's been in and out of the hospital & hasn't been treated the best. My daughter found this place & fell in love instantly. She went on a tour with Shannon a few days ago & called me on FaceTime to speak to Shannon as well. My grandmother's traumatic situation was explained in detail & she made it seem like it wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, that was a lie. The paperwork was given to the hospital she is in to complete & it was returned to them for review. The hospital listed something about her being "agitated" and put in restraints there, so Leslie Jones called me today to get further explanation about it. I explained that my grandmother has been placed in restraints at times to prevent her from getting out of bed & falling. She is not used to being forced to stay in bed & not being allowed to use the restroom like a normal human being, so she does try to get up. The staff there doesn't want to waste time getting her up & doesn't have enough people to watch her, so they just put her in restraints. I've complained to hospital administrators as well as well as other agencies about her treatment. Nothing has changed. Today, they were supposed to do a virtual assessment with my grandmother & the social worker at the hospital. They were a no show. They didn't give notice that they changed their minds or anything, so the hospital social worker got nasty with them. How is that our fault??? They decided that she wasn't a good fit there & I'm confused as to why when they have dementia patients there already who sundown and get agitated all the time. My grandmother's agitation has nothing to do with dementia and everything to do with the hospital treating her less than human. This facility, although very beautiful, clearly can't handle dementia patients. After researching them after this happened and seeing that they allowed a dementia resident to wonder off, I guess we dodged a bullet. Check the complaints on this place with government entities; not just reviews on Yelp and other places. They are unprofessional & you couldn't pay me to place her here now. Thanks for discriminating & saving me the headache of having to take her out of there, Anthology.

We have since moved her to a new location that does not use the excuse that everyone, everywhere is short staffed. Here are a handful of reasons I am rating Charter one star. Charter uses contractors a lot from what I was told. Of the staff in the memory care wing, they seldom smiled, mostly seemed put out when you asked them anything, and many times you just couldn't find anyone to help. My mom's laundry disappeared a lot. And her room over the time she was there started to smell of urine. Other times, when staff was suppose to help my mom get to her hair appointments (just down the hall) they would not. It just didn't happen. If a family member was not there to take her, it simply didn't happen. My mom became very withdrawn and sad in a very short period of time. In contrast, her new home has one caregiver for every four patients. These caregivers are ALL full time highly trained employees. And they take good care of every one of their residents. My mom is gaining her weight back and is happier now. I am sorry if Charter is struggling with staff shortages, if that is even the case. But these are our family members. These are human beings, and should always be treated as human beings. Not looked at as more work that you do not have time for.

Donna the Director of Nursing sat down with my sister and I to tell us that my mother was dying and only had days to live. "She squirles her food and we cannot get her to drink". I go into the room and my mother is crying and tells me she doesn't want to die. In short, she didn't stop eating, they stopped feeding her. Donna made calls for her to go to a hospice house. A specialist evaluated her and quickly reported she was in no way ready for hospice house. My sister tried to speak with the Director, Lynn Irvine and she told my sister, "I cannot focus on this right now. We are being interviewed by Hampton Road Show." I took her out ASAP and asked them to contact long term care with her exit info. Nine days and five phone calls later and I have a mother trying to recover from the damage done of not eating for days and bounced check because Morningside seems to pride itself on incompetence. They are part of Dominion Village so I cannot imagine that they are much better. Shortly after I posted the review I was contacted by Lynn Irvine the Director. She was very concerned and seemed to take my feedback very seriously. She assured me that changes were in the works and had a genuine passion for seeing a new path for the senior living community.
