That's the downside. The upside is that the rest of the park is well-kept and spacious for what it is. Lots of parking, and there are 8 tennis courts! And a large field (looks like it's primarily used for baseball and volleyball), plus built in bleachers for spectating. A little path through a wooded area leads you to the Vietnam Veterans memorial and spills into the Johnston Center parking lot (where you'll find an aquatic facility and more).

I run through this park when I'm on the Ellerbe Creek Trail and sometimes stop to grab a drink from the water fountains. Rock Quarry Park has athletic fields, greenway access, lights, picnic facilities, play grounds, restrooms, soccer fields, tennis courts, water fountains, and a youth baseball field. If you enter and following the parking lot straight down, you'll see a trail entrance. This trail (sometimes with use of sidewalks) leads to the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial, Edison Johnson Recreation Center, Museum of Life and Science, and joins up with the Ellerbe Creek Trail. Do take note that the park is referred to as "Rock Quarry Park at Edison Johnson Recreation", the two kind of spill into one another. The ACTUAL park has the athletic fields, bathrooms and tennis courts, while the Recreation Center has everything else (even a pool and a splash pad!) And of course the Vietnam Veterans Living Memorial is located in the middle, on the path that connects the park to the recreation center. You will find people "hanging out" in their cars in the parking lot, like at most Durham Parks, but they've never bothered me. Overall, this is a great park for field activities, tennis and runners. I definitely pay it my park dues!

One of my favorite things about this park is that the big kids section and younger kids playground are pretty well separated as well as fenced in so you don't need to worry about your toddler running off and disappearing. The toilet here is pretty crap ngl but hey, at least they have a toilet st all. Look out for the birds in the summer. They will stare you down and follow you like you're treading on their turf and it's pretty damn intimidating haha RUN!!!

Bond Park Lake Trail is such a lovely spot for an easy outdoor escape in Cary. It was especially great for dogs -- there were so many happy pups out enjoying the trail, and the atmosphere felt super friendly and relaxed. A huge plus was how shaded most of the trail is, which made the walk comfortable even on a warmer day. The lake views along the way were beautiful and peaceful, and there are plenty of large grassy areas throughout the park that are perfect for picnics, tossing a ball around, or simply lounging outside with a book. The park itself is also very well maintained with lots of parking, clean restrooms, and helpful amenities. I also liked seeing the workout stations scattered along the trail for anyone wanting to turn their walk into a little fitness moment.

Awesome park! Visited this past weekend with the main attraction being the sunflowers ! I haven't…read moreseen a field of sunflowers this big since living in South Dakota. Some were dead, but many were still living. Although there was significant rain this week, many parts of the fields were sandy and dry, there is a ramp like at the beach for wheelchairs and strollers. Also saw one of the hammock areas, a dog park and a troll ! I was seriously impressed at the size and scale of this park, and could easily spend an entire day exploring and enjoying, or bringing a lunch spread. Would definitely like to find and see the other trolls (heard there are 5 in total), spend some more time relaxing in hammock alley! Hope to return in the future!

Other than the renovation of certain park areas, this place was great. We did so much walking,…read moreespecially when you walked to 4 of the 5 trolls residing within the park fences (we saw one at the start of the loop in our car). We enjoyed the hammocks set between two trees - and there were many of them. The trolls were fun. They each had names, and a QR code to read their stories. Other visitors offered pieces to the puzzle. One even visited Charlotte, NC, where I believed she talked about the grandmother, but it's a tree instead of a troll. Anyway, good strolls, lots of sun, and it was fun watching the dogs at the dog park. Plan on a couple of ours in search for the trolls. Or, do that, and picnic under the trees or pavilions. There are shuttles so you can park in one area, and then visit another.

I have since been back for another try but left halfway through in disappointment. The course is not marked very well and hard to navigate..i recommend looking up the course map online to help. Overall the course is run down and needs some definite help. It could be a really nice course! I've researched and emailed two different people on the parks and rec committee to try and give my opinion and even offer my services to help, but the only response made it evident that they didn't even actually read the email, just thought I was trying to rent out the ropes course..
