Pro-tip: While water and seltzer are offered, you can bring your own white wine, beer and hard seltzer aboard to enjoy as the sun sets.

I was looking for something different to do and came across America's Cup Charters. We opted for the daily 2-hour ticketed sail. Our 12 meter yacht was the 12 US 17 Weatherly, which is a legend and one of the three surviving wooden America's Cup defenders in the world. Bruce, Erica (the skipper), James, and Rebecca were super nice and extremely knowledgeable about the boat, sailing, history, and landmarks in the area. Erica had great command of the vessel and was able to make things fun while still ensuring the safety of everyone on board. Due to Covid-19, America's Cup Charter is limiting the number of people included in each tour and requires everyone to keep their mask on. I felt completely comfortable the whole time. I highly recommend the private charter and daily ticketed sail.

When my girlfriend suggested sailing lessons as an activity on our vacation, I was a bit…read moreapprehensive. It wasn't being on water that bothered me, it was learning to sail a boat surrounded by billion dollar yachts. We decided to give it a shot at Sail Newport. When we arrived there weren't too many signs pointing to the sailing center. And it only seems as if one person was actually working there. Luckily we got checked in rather quickly and we met our instructor Peter. After picking out some life vests we went down to the dock and got into our boat. After Peter took the boat out onto some open water, he gave steering to my girlfriend and rope duty to me. All I really had to on rope duty was pull them tight whenever the sail switched direction. After a few minutes of sailing, my girlfriend and I switched. Steering was a bit more complicated but I got the hang of it eventually. Peter was a great instructor, we didn't feel nervous at all despite it being our first time sailing. Honestly this was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Newport! You can't visit the sailing capital of the east coast and not give it a try.

Great sunset cruise with Captain Sean and his crew, Hunter and Matthew. I had been a little tired…read moreand mildly grouchy after a long day, but I immediately felt better once we got on board. There is not much narration, but that is fine.....I sat and watched the world go by peacefully, without having to think about much. The sunset was spectacular and there was very little chop. It is a fairly smooth sail. The one small complaint I have is that you are asked to line up to board about twenty minutes out, and you are standing right next to the garbage dump site for the wharf, and it smells terrible. Parking is scarce, so they mean it when they say get there an hour before setting sail. We lucked out and pulled into a spot as someone else was leaving, but had we not been so fortunate, we may have been searching around for awhile. This is a one and done for me, but I am happy I got to do it.
