Absolutely amazing! Worth every penny. Very nice and relaxing sail. The crew is so pleasant and fun to chat with. Expect a lot of beautiful views, breeze, and utter peace! Thank you for a wonderful experience, we'll be coming back!

My husband and I took a ride on the Weatherly - the sailboat that won the 1962 America's Cup - over Labor Day weekend. It was a perfect day - sunny, dry and 75 degrees. We sailed around Newport Harbor out to Beavertail Lighthouse then back to the pier. It was beautiful and so incredibly RELAXING. I can't wait to do this again. We were so lucky with the weather. Everyone else on the boat was having a great time, too. There were about 10 people plus the crew. You can bring snacks and drinks. The ride was two hours - 1-3 pm. If you're in Newport for a few days you should DEFINITELY add this to your itinerary. The crew asked for volunteers to help raise the mainsail and steer back to the harbor. Being on the Weatherly was waaay better than riding on the ferry.

The absolute highlight of my recent trip to Newport was an afternoon sail with America's Cup Charter ("ACC"). ACC does a lot of things, but our large group that day did one of the most amazing things available: we raced 8 America's Cup boats against each other. Let's get a bit of background, and I'll explain. ACC charters sailing on old America's Cup boats. Specifically, on America's Cup boats from a long time ago, when the Cup still used the 12 meter formula (look it up, I can't explain everything). ACC has a stable of...well, at least 8 of these boats. With only one exception (as far as I know), every single boat was actually raced in the America's Cup at some point in time, and many of the boats are actual America's Cup winners. Thus, sailing these things is a bit like being given a chance to drive Al Unser's Indy car around the track a few times. So, enough foreplay. On the day in question, a huge cadre of lawyers descended on the Goat Island Marina like a plague of locusts. After some standing around in the cold, we crewed up the 8 yachts and took to the surprisingly calm waters of Narragansett Bay. The average crew size was 15 of us lawyer yokels, a captain, a strategist (necessary for racing), and a utility crewmember (like a good utility infielder, a valuable addition to any team). We sailed around the bay as the captain identified local landmarks and as most of us learned the ins and outs of sailing giant racing yachts (not a common pastime in my boyhood home of Wyoming). The boat I was on, the Onawa, was the oldest of the fleet, built in 1928, and (for interesting but technical reasons we don't need to go into here) was the only boat out racing that day that had never competed in the America's Cup. After some touring and training, it was time to get down to some racing. We did a test lap of the course once (and it takes about half an hour to lap the course), then settled in for 3 races. Our boat finished 3-1-3, and was one place away from taking the whole thing. We got a bad start on the last race, and still managed to come only about 2 meters away from beating one more boat and taking home the prize (yes, I'm a bit competitive). My assigned task for the racing legs was as a "grinder." Typically, a team of two grinders works a specialized crank which is used to trim sails. In our case, the grinders trimmed the jib. It's amazingly hard work, with good exercise for the abs, thighs and biceps. You beat ass for about 30 seconds, work slowly for about 4 minutes, then rest for about 7 minutes, then do it again. Once the race started, I wasn't cold anymore. I loved the experience. The crew on our boat was absolutely fantastic. Friendly, informative, and good. The boat was beautiful (I've included a painting of the boat I crewed up at the top), and the experience was fantastic.

For starters, THEY HAVE A DOG AND HER NAME IS TOLA AND SHE IS SO CUTE AND FRIENDLY AND SO SOFT??? So we were immediately off to a great start. Then, Kiki gives us our safety briefing which was quick, thorough, and punctuated with a round of rum punch that she brought to all of the guests. Kiki really came in clutch with some fabulous Kate Chastain energy (for those of you who don't watch Below Deck - that means she's fabulous, gorgeous, friendly, and very good at her job) and she took such great care of us. The ship itself is a beautiful and impressive double-masted catamaran that we got to learn about during our voyage. The bean bags all over the main deck were SO comfy, they had blankets to keep us warm when the wind picked up, and the deck had two big cutouts that were covered with this neat rope-rigging that was woven tight enough that there was no danger of falling through but loose enough that we got to see the water right below us! We dropped anchor in a super cute little bay where we hung out, took pictures, enjoyed drinks and a very nicely-arranged charcuterie board, and even though the water was freezing Kiki brought out the "Lily Pad" which is basically a giant floating mat we could all sit on/hang off of in the water while we paddled around! Can't say enough good things about Kiki who was so fun and brought such a lovely vibe, and even took our phones to get pictures and videos of all of us having fun so that we could be present and engaged with each other! The experience boarding, sailing, swimming and paddle boarding made for the perfect day with friends. We brought catering, which they promptly served and allowed us to sit comfortably on the bean bag chairs in the sun. Our glasses were never empty and we can't wait to return next season. I was extra impressed with Captain Cameron's navigating during the Bermuda Race launch that week as we spectated amongst hundreds of boats. Highly recommend! Thank you for the memories, Heron crew!

I wish I would have done more research because Captain Mike is 100% a scam artist!!! I was a victim of racism/racial profiling while vacationing in Rhode Island. Here is my story:…read more I booked a private yacht through a company called Brady Yachting. I told the Captain ‍ Mike that I would be bringing along my 15 year old sister and my 3 year old son. He said it was fine. I spoke with the captain several times on the phone and via email 2 days before, the day before and the day of the ride. First of all, he expressed how he knew for a fact that I couldn't afford the $350 yacht ride. He kept reciting this over and over to me. I was very upset because the hair that's currently on my head is over $500. My baby shower was over $10,000 and I can afford pretty much whatever I want. Just because I am a Black/African American woman doesn't mean that I'm broke and can't afford a lil $350 yacht ride. I was and still am very appalled. It's plenty of African Americans making 6 figures and making more than their Caucasian friends. Caucasians aren't the only bread winners in the world. I would never judge someone over the phone, just because of the color of their skin/race. Then he went on to criticize my name and ask me if he could call me something else for short because he didn't "care" for my name. He asked me "what kind of name is that?" and "why did me and my sister have the same name? (my sister's name has one letter different than mines). I said a quick prayer because I didn't want to go on a yacht with a racist bigot. The Lord heard my prayer and at the very end Captain ‍ Mike canceled my trip. His excuse was that I wasn't truthful to him. He said I never told him I was bringing my 3 year old son. Which was a bald fact lie I told him I was bringing my son from the start, I even asked him was the yacht kid friendly? ‍ he also stated that he was a reverend. God would never call a prejudice person to do His work. You have to love ALL people to be a Christian and do God's work. I would never recommend Captain Mike/Brady Yachting to anyone. I don't condone unprofessionalism, racist, ignorant behavior.
