This was my worst car rental experience ever. After waiting 40 minutes in line (I am a Hertz Gold), I was told they did not have a car in the category booked and tried to sell me a better car for $60 / day more. When I protested, they gave me keys to a car. The car was badly damaged and dirty. When I returned, they gave me another car after 20 minutes, which was also dirty and not the category I booked. But, it was after a long flight and I was bushed. So, I just drove off. When I dropped off the car, they had to audacity to now tell me I damaged the car. I certainly did not. From the reports I read here, this is a scam that Hertz perpetuates on it's customers to make a buck. read more

Place is a scam. Rented a Tesla for the low price of €560 euros for 2 weeks. Guy takes my card and puts a €2700 euro deposit charge on it without asking and pushes my card over the limit. I promptly cancel the rental upon realizing this and he says the deposit will be refunded back on my account that evening. Two days later it's still not there. Complete scam. While renting the car, instead of being offered insurance coverage cordially, we were coerced into buying a policy well above market rate despite having coverage through our credit card AND through booking.com (CDC insurance through their partner rentalcover.com). The staff member literally laughed at the insurance we purchased and said it would not cover anything and he would first charge our credit card up to 26000 dollars for damages saying that even if there was one scuff mark on the car, it could cost us thousands of dollars. We heard his partner agent arguing with another woman at the same time who he had already charged a huge amount for a chocolate stain in the car. Given these harassment strategies we felt compelled to over-purchase insurance prices at 420 euros for the week despite already having a policy and knowing that other competitor prices were at most $100 for similar policies. Please go with other rental car agencies, at least in Nice. read more

Total scam , tried to charge me insurance that cost more than the rental. On return they found tiny spots on the windscreen that looked like a bug and told me I'd damaged the car. They were imperceptible and I argued but to no avail. they are charging me 1000 Euros !! which I refused to sign. Hoping credit card company will help. Place is a scam. I have rented at this office multiple times through KLM/Hertz. Our last experience can only be described as a scam. Our inbound flight was delayed but the office was waiting for me. Good service! Most other rental companies at the rental center had already left and most lights in the rental center were out. The Hertz employee who also wanted to go home (I understand that at that late hour) had my key ready when I approached the counter. He gave me the key, I signed what he handed me and went to fetch the car. Upon our return I got the receipt and there suddenly was an extra 637 euro charge for insurance. That wasn't right because the entire rental cost was 436 euro and already included full insurance. I asked the employee if it was a mistake? She said not worry about it and it would be adjusted automatically. It didn't feel good and I immediately contacted Hertz. They didn't respond quickly so I kept pushing by email and phone. I tried to call the Nice office multiple time but the number on the papers and online doesn't work. I emailed multiple times and finally got an answer stating it was insurance that automatically was added to my credit card due to me being a gold member??? This is a flat out lie. I'm a gold member but my previous rentals with KLM/Hertz under the exact same terms didn't have the sudden 'extra insurance' on top of the already paid rental, that also already included full insurance! And an extra insurance that is 637 euro's extra for a complete 436 euro rental that already included insurance. That is a scam and a fraud. I have asked Hertz multiple times to explain this to me and how it it's possible that my previous rental didn't get the extra insurance, that they claim is automatically added on top of the rental due to my status. They haven't respond, and I have been waiting for weeks for an explanation. I understand why they don't reply. They can't explain this because they know it's a dirty trick. They are THIEVES! DO NOT rent from them. Rented a car for a month and spent well over $1000 for the rental, took pictures at pick-up (except small parts like the review mirror casing) as no one is there to verify the vehicle condition with you. Guess what? Upon returning the car 30 days later at 4am (again no one is there to check the vehicle), they supposedly found a minor scratch on the mirror casing. I emailed them, asking for proofs and they sent me 2 pictures that show NOTHING!!! Now I am taking this up with my credit card company. Pick Up- Gold counter was super fast- name on the board, walk to car, our the gate. Voila! Drop Off- Drive in, say "Hi" and that's it. This Hertz location was well staffed, polite, efficient and professional. I will most definitely use them again. Merci Hertz! read more

The worst, totally arrogant and disrespectful staff. After long flight from LA and then delayed flight from Frankfurt we finally get to Nice and headed to take our previously booked car with Dollar. Hertz was serving Dollar at Nice airport. There was only one couple waiting ahead of us. Four (4) people were on the counters, socializing and not working with any customers at all. After 20 min nobody bother even to look at the line, consisting of only two (2) couples. Finally I dare to ask if they will pay any attention to us. My question obviously was very irritating to the young lady, who responded in the most arrogant and offensive way I ever been treated anywhere in the world! Ugly and frustrating! Can't believe that such "customer service " exists. Obviously, the Hertz company criteria for educating, selecting an holding accountable their employees in France are very low! Shameful! read more

I rented a car thru Hertz online and picked it up from Nice airport. my drop off was in LYON France. I booked my reservation online and my price was about $ 200 At pick up I went directly to the garage and found my name on the board. So I never even talked to any customer service at the pick up point. On my drop off the Rep at LYON tells me that my invoice is now $800. And unless I can produce my online reservation I would have to pay the charges. Apparently someone at Hertz had added $600 worth of insurance to my pick up at Nice airport and since I never talked to any customer service I never thought about double checking the invoice in the dashboard before leaving the location. Big lesson never trust Check your invoice before you leave the garage just because you got the price online does not mean you will get it. Take pictures of your rental and show everything to the staff for them to sign off on. Actually. Just don't rent from here. It was a terrible experience from the beginning. My car was not ready at the proper time, no compensation was offered. Other people came and went with their cars while we just waited with no explanation or anything. The staff then tried to blame previous damage on me. Luckily, I was able to zoom in on their pictures from the beginning of the rental to prove the damage was there. But customer service also tried to push back on the evidence from my phone camera because it wasn't time-stamped. That was when I had to use their own photo to show them the damage was there already. Again, no explanation or compensation was offered despite the fact that it took over a month to resolve and I had to pay interest on the charge. i had a bad experience with renting a car at the end of july. the car was not perforiming very well. i tried to call the rent office in nice and the one in milan, again and again but of course nobody cares, nobody answer. i was driving to milan and i was afraid of getting stuck on the autostrada with a teenager daugheter and my wife that is ill. i had super coverage of insurance but the most important thing is ( now i know) " road assistance 24 hour".what do you do if you get stuck on autostrada? call who ? that nobody cares? i was very disappointed with my rental car company. read more

Had the worst ever experience renting a car at Nice Cote D'Azur airport. Had to wait in line ever 3 hours due to low staffing assigned to work by Hertz. Also, staff, was very rude. While all other car rental companies(Avis, etc) had their customers in and out within 20-30 minutes, Hertz, made their customers wait over 3 hours in line. I have photos to prove. When questioned why don't they have more staff working, they could care less. It was a horrific experience arriving in Nice and having to wait 3 hours for getting a car. Otherwise the car was fine, no issue at all, got the car that we booked. The drop off was better but still very poor customer service. Hertz - you lost a customer!!! read more

AVOID at all costs! 3+ hours line for car pickup, the worst experience ever! Hot and stressful. Nobody to pick the car off from, then car rental rip-off at drop-off. 330 EUR for 'scratches' which were already there at pick-off. All the car rental companies are located in T2, Hertz counter in T1 was closed, short lines at all other companies, at Hertz, 50+ meters and no movement. Oh yes, and lining up AGAIN at drop off to hand in the GPS.... read more

Stay clear of this place. They are only there to take advantage of desparate tourists. They will find a way to over-charge you. The lines are also 1 hour long. Dishonest, thieves..Also, took us an hour to find our car, did not know how to exit, no one on the lot to help us. read more

Be careful when renting a car in France outside of an airport. Especially to return it!!! The way they have their garages setup is just impossible to find. Also, be prepared to fill up the tank accordingly thru a gps system. These locations are in the middle of cities with very little choices for gas stations. Their fees to fill up the tank if you return not full is insulting. Also be aware of their ridiculously high hold on your credit card. Inspect the car when you pick it up, point out any minor stuff you see. Good luck seeing any problems in a dark car that has never been properly washed though. Good luck. The one I got had around 40k miles, bald tires, scratches everywhere, the windshield looked like it had gone through a hurricane of bugs, stunk cigarettes although "no smoking allowed", the brakes squeak. I returned that sub standard car the same way I got it. 7 days and still waiting for the "pending" charge of almost$1000 for a one day rent. Stay away from rental cars altogether. Take the train! Planes! Walk! Google to see if they rent horses, anything but wasting your time with rental cars and Hertz. read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH HERTZ @ Nice Airport. We booked with them twice in the last year and they overcharged and gave us cars in poor health. One time, the car tires had low pressure and we were expected to resolve this. The second time, they gave us a car with NO OIL in it. Completely unacceptable - so unsafe! They may seem like the cheapest option when reserving online but the quality of service is very bad. They do not pick up the phone when you call stranded on the side of the highway due to the car being in an unsafe driving condition. Last but not least, I paid online when I reserved and they charged me again at the counter. Disgusting! read more

Warning! We hired a car from Hertz in Nice for a week. When we returned the car, the company claimed that we had to pay 500 euro extra because there was a bit of sand in the car, which they claimed would make it more difficult to clean. We objected and said there was nothing in our contract to say that we had to return the car cleaned or without a bit of sand. They gave in but a nasty try! I have never experienced anything like this from other car rental companies. read more
