I walked in to an entirely empty space to pick up a pre ordered rental. No one at desk and the manager, Kofi Boateng. nowhere to be found. I waited for about 20 minutes before I finally saw someone working out back. He helped me get my rental but offered zero apology or explanation as to why a professional business would be left completely unattended in this way with customers waiting. Incredibly unprofessional and they seem not to care at all how customers are treated. Gives a really bad name to Hertz. I'd give it a zero stars if that were an option. read more

I made reservations 2 weeks prior and when I went to pick up the vehicle, the manager, Cofee, made me wait while he vacuum the car and take it to a public car wash. In addition, the vehicle was not maintain properly. THE WORST EXPERIENCE WERE. read more

I was in a car accident on a monday. I rented a car from the Middletown NY location on tuesday. I was stuck on the side of the highway in the Hertz rental on Wednesday. I called the Middletown NY location and was given what was suppose to be the roadside assistance number, but it was the incorrect number. I then had to google the number myself. The rep that answered my call told me that the car had to be transferred to white plains and i had 2 options. 1.i could ride to white plains with the tow truck to get a replacement or 2. They could send me a lyft to go home. I told the rep that I wasn't traveling to white plains to get a replacement when i live in the next town over from where I was. I also told her that i couldn't go home without a vehicle since the rental was the only car i had at the time. She called the middletown location and was advised that they had a replacement for me. The rep then told me that lyft couldn't pick me up from where I was on the highway, so i would need to get to a secure location and call them back so they could send a lyft for me. The rep suggested that i call the police to come and take me to a secure location ( as if they were a taxi company). After waiting an hr for the tow and the police sending the H.E.L.P. truck to do absolutely nothing. I called Hertz back and spoke to the nastiest rep I have spoken to in my life and was told again that the lyft could not come get me and that it would be up to the tow truck to decide if he wanted to take me to a secure location. The new rep that i spoke with told me that "i needed to take it up with the police" since they did not come to get me. After being on the side of the highway for over an hr, the tow truck arrives and offers to drop me to the Hertz in Middletown. Upon arrival, there are 3 girls behind the desk (the manager walks in shortly after). No one apologizes for the inconvenience. No one acknowledges that i was stuck for an highway bc of their crappy car and obviously they were all too busy to pick up their paying customer from the side of the highway after THEIR car broke down. The one girl was even rude to the tow truck guy when all he wanted to do was confirm the location where the car needed to be dropped off at. They gave me a replacement but it was worse than the original car. I returned the car that same night and told my insurance to set up my reservation through enterprise. I should've walked out that place on tuesday when i came to pick up the car and no one was at the desk. Even after i just spoke the girl and told her i was on my way. We waited for a good 15 minutes when my father finally walked back to the office and found the manager in the back sleep!! That was a sign. Never, ever, ever again! read more

Booked a car online, used Debit Card. Turned up in a rainstorm to pick up the car; now told they do not accept Debit cards, even though the corporate website indicates they do. Had to traipse through the rain to a gas station to call for a ride. On the bright side, I then rented a car from Enterprise in Monticello at half the price! Oh, and with a Debit card! read more

I will never use this rental company again! I was told on the day that I started my rental that I could use another form of payment when I returned the car (you have to put a credit card on file with them when you rent). When it came time to pay for the rental, I told the Hertz employee that I wished to use a different credit card & he told me that was ok. So why is it that when I arrived to pay, the company had gone and charged the credit card that I did NOT want to use?? The employees & customer serice told me there was nothing they could do about the mix up! On top of that, they charged me double the amount that I was suppose to pay! Now my car insurance company has to get involved to find out why I was charged the wrong amount & why the wrong credit card was used! read more

wow. run by a vacant eyed employee. amazingly dysfunctional. it's the zombie car rental. no customer service whatsoever, which makes you think that it's just a side business for the repair shop it shares a location with. kinda frightening when you are contemplating what this might mean for those poor unfortunates who get towed here from the local interstates. seems to be a one man show...the guy who waited on us was either exhausted or drugged. the phones were ringing off the hook, and there was no one behind the counter when we first walked in. really? don't do business with these people, it's like the waiting room for the third circle of hell. read more

Do not rent from Hertz in Middletown @ patton autobody. Picking up car was not an issue. The person who assisted me was pleasant. After a one day rental I went to return car. A lady with blonde hair whom I later found out was the manager took the keys and went to inspect the vehicle. OK, no problem right? Wrong, she returned and proceeded to acuse me of smoking in the vehicle. First off I do not smoke; second, I was the only one in the vehicle. She then proceeds go tell me a $250 smoking fee will be charged to my bill or I can go down the street and have the car detailed. Ya, right...I proceed to argue with her informing her I did not smoke in the car and she insists one of the two options she gave me will apply because she really feels I smoked in the car. OK, so I insist I didn't, stalemate right? Wrong she has my CC information so she can do what she wants. She then says ok lets get another employees opinion. Sounds really fair in an obviously unethical establishment. So she asks one of the employees who is cleaning cars to check the car and determine if her "feeling I smoked" is accurate. She tells him she sees ashes everywhere and the car reaks of smoke. He proceeds to carefully inspect the vehicle, open each door and looking between seats and all along floor boards. Thorough inspection by him. He looks at her and tells her, "no...I don't see any ashes or smell smoke". She then proceeds to convince him he is mistaken. She then storms off, mind your this is Hertz manager, removing the absurd charge and proceeds to be quite rude. Upon leaving she claims I really feel you smoked in the car. What a joke. I hope she loses her job and hope the honest gentleman who told the truth is promoted. I closing I will never rent from this unethical car rental company again, HERTZ, and suggest you do not either!! read more
