Yelp? Can't you fork out for a sixth star for Hey Little Cupcake? Seriously, it just doesn't seem fair that I'm celebrating their permanent placement in Spinningfields and am unable to give them a spare star for keeps. Nevertheless, I'm overjoyed that my very favourite cupcakery has moved from their temporary pop-up shop to Little Quay Street at the back of our business district, on that same walkway the suits use to nip to Tesco for milk, sandwiched between a sandwich (LOLz) shop (La Piazza) and Nando's. Er, talk about location location location. What office worker is going to be able to resist a box of cupcakes during the milk run? What lunch buyer or Nando's diner would forgo dessert here? You'd have to have a near Buddhist self-discipline and willpower to do so. And why deny yourself? These cupcakes are everything a cupcake should be - cute, sexy, melt-in-the-mouth, piled with delectable I-don't-even-want-to-know-what's-in-it frosting, and the sponge? Well, I have a confession to make. I'm the kind of person that eats the filling in the sandwich and gets tired of the bread, and the same often goes for cupcakes where I'm concerned. Not with these little treasures. The cake batter manages to be lightly whipped, moist and dense all at the same time. Anybody who disagrees needs to take their tastebuds to the doctor. Stat. I tried two newbies (for me), the red velvet cupcake and the Nutella-themed variety, and as always they were pure perfection. I really need to try the Canadian Syrup and Irish Cream flavours too, mental note for next time! I also noticed an extra addition... brownies. Awesome. Pure awesome. I had to snaffle a couple to take away, and sure enough they ticked all the brownie boxes too. The ladies can bake any cupcake dairy and gluten free, and they're some of the friendliest people you'd ever have the pleasure of meeting. Plus, the shop looks absolutely stunning, as does the artwork. And they just about killed me with joy when I spotted Illy Coffee and Teapigs Tea. Working on Spinningfields means I've eaten my share of Hey Little Cupcake in the last 18 months. The store continues to hold its kitsch charm with white and pink decorations, plus baking items, cards and prints available to purchase alongside the sweet treats. Our most recent visit was to purchase a box of 6 for the team back in the office. It was late afternoon but still plenty of stock to choose from, plus brownies on the top shelf. I've also had some delicious marshmallow ice cream in the past, which I believe will come back in the summer. Service was friendly enough and patient with the length of time it took for us to choose our 6 flavours. The only confusion was that they had Tweeted about Nutella cupcakes earlier in the day but had none in stock! They did, however, have some special Chinese New Year cupcakes which was a favourite in the office. After scoffing down the monkey topped CNY exclusive, I think I prefer these plainer cakes; we were treated to some Valentine's Day mini-cupcakes last month which were just as delicious, simple vanilla sponge and light creamy icing. A Spinningfields staple which I'm sure will continue to attract visitors from all over. read more

My visit to this cafe was great, service was friendly and decor cute!. I loved the cakes on show though the variety was limited. Only 8 types of cupcakes. (I think I didn't eat in store sadly.) I personally have tried two. The vimto cupcake, and the rocky road cupcake. Both the cakes were sweet moist and crumbly..Mmm. Yet they had a little too much icing. That made it a little sickly. Yet it was still tasty. Also there was something I'm the middle of the cake. Like a surprise!! Overall a 4/5 stars. Great but the overabundance of icing on the cupcake was a little demeriting. I called in Hey Little Cupcake today, in a day where my friend and I went looking for a nice place to eat for a Christmas party, which he was throwing. He wanted to make it Gluten Free for me, and he knew a few other people who needed it so after a long but exciting day going round restaurants, we decided to call in here for a Cupcake to try somewhere new for Gluten Free cakes. The women I spoke to on the phone had the patience of the saint, It may have been very quiet and we was the only ones in there but I must of rang 4-5 times and she helped direct us. It was quite hard to get to because this is quite hidden, but I manage to find it, it is located next to a Nando's store that looked very nice in Spinningfields, it is also within walking distance to The Red Hot World Buffet, and a Caffe Nero and a Pret A Manager store. When I arrived, the store was closing in around 20 minutes but the women I spoke to on the phone, was really nice and let me stay in to have my drink, the pot of tea she served me was incredible in size. She told me they make a different Gluten Free cupcake everyday, however when she was packing up (putting the chairs on the tables and putting the cakes away) she didn't appear to get rid of them, showing signs that they could be being served tomorrow but when they was served to me they didn't taste stail or anything and I suppose they always need to have some Gluten Free cakes, and if they don't have any and a customer comes in, in the morning, they are nice to keep. My cupcake wasn't that big but I didn't expect it from such a small store what just sells Cupcakes, this wasn't the best cupcake I ever had, it was a little dry at times but the coffee icing was fantastic, it was a New Yorker so the cake was half chocolate and half normal with the Coffee icing, It wasn't terrible but it wasn't fantastic either so I don't think it is anything to rave about, like previous reviews for here but it isn't something to go around Manchester and tell people to avoid at all costs either. The tea served was okay and it is quite a nice hidden cafe, it may only sell cakes but that is still quite nice. It is also great to see they is chefs working "around the clock" according to my waitress to make new cakes, you can even see them when going towards the end of the store near the toilets. I would visit here again but I maybe would just get a Gingerbread Latte next time if their cake of the day Gluten Free was a New Yorker, still the cake was okay and the tea was too with a more than generous portion, the only member of staff working at the till was fantastic and didn't mind staying an extra few minutes until we had finished (she was packing away but still was helpful if we had any questions), so I have to give 3 stars. The main reasons I can't give any more is - The cakes could be of a higher quality - It is more on the pricer side and for such a small cupcake it isn't worth it - It is very hard to get to and give directions to, especially for first team visitors like my friend and I was today. read more

After sampling some mini cupcakes at the yelp event in August, I finally got to witness the cute, bright, spotless, hidden away little shop that is Hey Little Cupcake - and it was amazing. Brilliant service with a smile from the very friendly person behind the counter who helped me identify the gluten free whoopie pie that enticed me. Chocolate cake surrounded a soft minty centre, which I devoured. I love HLC. I've been a fan since they were first in their temporary premises over the road from where they are now. I don't eat them as often as I used to because they are calorie laden and as I get older, the calories stick to my hips a lot more. Today, I had my first HLC for about two months. And boy it was a good one. I had an American Candy, which had a mini oreo on top (and a surprise one in the middle), reese's peanut butter cup and mini hershey's bar on top as well as the icing and drizzle of chocolate sauce. The cake itself was chocolate with a gooey centre. If you don't like chocolate, you'd hate it. But being a massive fan of chocolate (if diabetes and heart disease didn't exist, I'd be happy to exist on chocolate alone), this was the perfect choice for me. It was LUSH! i try to have a different one each time, which is easy because as well as the staples (the Good Girl is my favourite), they have specials each day. The only thing I'd say is that they are not cheap but in my opinion totally worth it. The service in the shop is always friendly, which adds to the overall ace experience of HLC. read more

Okay so I hate to be yet another yelping female to wax lyrical about the frosted loveliness that is contained within this small, kitsch and pink haven from the hustle and bustle of town, but I just can't resist. I was lulled here by a very good friend, to whom I am eternally grateful, on the basis that we wouldn't order dessert after dinner to justify the potential calorific intake and seeing the window display was enough to find myself resisting the urge to push my nose up against the glass. Once inside I spent several minutes carefully choosing just the right cupcake, plumping for the gold sprinkled Viva Las Vegas. I'd like to say I was strong enough to just have the one with my coffee but no, it wasn't to be, another coffee was ordered to accompany a scrumptious Red Velvet cupcake that winked at me from the counter. I hope that the seeming obsession with cupcakes that had taken hold over the past few years lasts well into the future in order that this cupcakery becomes a well deserved Manchester institution. read more

Hey Little Cupcake is the perfect place to pop in if you need a sweet fix or if you are meeting friends for a catch up! The interior is amazing... a pink paradise (every girls dream!)... the choice of cakes is immense... you can't just walk away with one! I had afternoon tea at Hey Little Cupcake on a Sunday and it was a great experience. The presentation was lovely and for just £10 we got sandwiches, a cream tea (with clotted cream...mmmmmm) mini cupcakes, chocolate dipped strawberry and a drink of our choice. I had peppermint leaves :) I bought my boyfriend a Viva Las Vegas...and I helped him eat it as it was too good to give away! I will def be visiting again soon to get my sweet fix! Well bake me in a case and cover me with frosting, those are some damn fine cupcakes. Hey Little Cupcake! Is like walking into an Aladdin's Cave of sugary goodness; cup cakes sit in neat little rows in a cabinet, brownies are stacked in piles on the counter, portraits of cakes adorn the walls and all around are sweet-toothed smiles. As well as being a cute little cafe, Hey Little Cupcake packs a serious punch with some delicious produce which you can have in, take away or order in bulk for a birthday party or wedding (or serious night in). The cakes themselves are light and fluffy with beautifully whipped toppings and delicate flavours. I tend not to like cupcakes too much as I often find them a little on the sweet side, but these are perfectly balanced - plus with a range to choose from there is something for everyone. Pop by for a delicious cup of illy coffee (or Tea Pigs tea) and a cupcake, or take home a box and make your loved ones love you that little bit more. read more

First impressions - impressive. Last impressions - not impressed. The shop is beautiful, all pink and white chequered flooring and quirky seating. They sell a little selection of bumf consisting of cookie making kits and chocolates from Slattery's, but the main attraction of this cupcakery - cupcakes. The window display on Good Friday was fab, which is where it's earned it's 2 stars. It had loads of Eastery cupcakes which dragged us in (and because I had seen the Cream Egg Cupcake they were advertising via fb). However, when we actually got through the doors and went to buy our cupcake, the ones in the window were not for sale. The ones on display were all basic flavours- vanilla, chocolate and lemon. The only one out of the ordinary was the one with the little duck on to celebrate the duck race. So we picked this one priced at £2.60 take out or £2.95 eat in. It was vanilla flavour. It was very dry - as if it was a few days old, and the frosting which should be soft and fluffy was dry and crumbly. Not impressed by the one thing they sell I will not be returning any time soon. read more

Having only been here for literally 2 minutes while my girlfriend purchased a gluten free woopie pie. Inside its like a kids playhouse very childish and cutesy and everything looks very clean and incredibly neat. The woman seemed very nice and gave us a bit of info on what was gluten free and what wasn't. All in all a nice experience, however I have only rated it 3 stars due to not giving it a proper visit and buying something to taste. read more

I love the name, I love their cakes but the staff there why are you so unfriendly? I wish I could give them more than 3 stars but unfortunately the lack of warmth at the store does not allow me to give more than 3 stars! I went there for the Yelp Snaps Manchester event along with many other Yelpers, we were an excited bunch let me put it that way. We were all taking photographs, writing tips, checking-in but sadly the staff did not even acknowledge our presence. They did not even lay out the tables and chairs which is the least you expect. The interiors is nice and pink, a little too much like a barbie room but I liked it (its cute). The cakes looked fantastic and the spinning field location is definitely a winner. Though I have to say that it can be quite tricky to spot the exact location (Its right next to Nando's in Spinningfields -- best landmark to go by). The price is reasonable too, for a boutique cupcake store and there are a wide range of flavors available (red velvet, chocolate, lemon and more). They also have nice, fancy boxes for the cupcakes and they also do custom made cupcakes which obviously needs to be ordered in advance. The place definitely has a lot of potential and by the looks of it it is already quite popular amongst the Manchester Foodies! Verdict : Great cupcakes but would love a bit of warmth because cupcakes are synonymous to warmth and love in my dictionary! read more

Hey Little Cupcake!! Well I have heard so much about these cupcake that I just had to try one. Being a cake maker myself I thought that these would be amazing, but to my disappointment they were the worst cupcakes I have ever tasted. Seriously.... I'm not sure the other reviewers here can shake off their fascination with all things sugary to actually be objective for a moment. On my visit to this cupcakery the weather outside was damp and grey, which was reflected in the attitudes of the staff. Content to keep me waiting for a few minutes while performing some other tasks, when my turn arrived I wasn't asked if there was anything I would like, or if I could be helped.... not even "Next!" - instead I was just stared at until I realised I was now entitled to some service. Cakes were packaged and money taken with nary a smile - and for £2 per cupcake I would at least have expected a smile for the money being made on these cakes, which were far below the standard their prices would suggest. So... to the cake. 3 words: Dry - Bland - Boring. I have had far better cupcakes in the past, and for far cheaper prices. £2 is expensive for one cake, very expensive, and that is only the take out price. £2.45 per cake to eat in is verging on extortion... and I doubt even that extra bit of cash would bring a smile to the faces of the staff. I would recommend that anyone wanting a tasty cupcake, with flavour and punch should visit somewhere else, because there is nothing special about the cake on offer here. On a side note, I wouldn't really bother with the entire Spinningfields area either.... the only car parking of note is an extortionate £6.50 for 2 hours multi-storey. Doesn't matter if you're only parked for 20 minutes, or 30 minutes, you pay the full £6.50. Te entire area was completely dead on a Saturday afternoon - like a ghost town, and shops like this, which could do so much to lift the place, seem content to charge a further arm and a leg for some bland cupcakes. read more

I like my cupcakes and I have tried them from Scotland to London and found nice ones, nasty ones and okay ones. I recently heard about 'Hey Little Cupcake' and on Saturday I decided to go and see what they were like, having seen the yummy promises on their website. It was raining when I entered the tiny shop next to Nando's and all three of the tiny tables were taken up by people talking, eating and drinking, although it did appear a few tables had long since finished but had decided to not move for any new customers who may wish to sit. This didn't bother me, I just thought I'd enjoy my cupcakes just as well at home. I went up to the counter, where two women stood, one was in heavy conversation with a lady about an order for cakes while the younger woman behind the counter messed about is the only thing I can think of it describe it, she knew I was waiting but seemed intent on ignoring me. I stood patiently waiting before finally unable to avoid my smiles and eye contact anymore she came to the counter. No smile was offered, no 'how can I help you', 'what would you like' nothing just a stare. I picked from the cakes on display, two chocolate, one red velvet and a New Yorker (coffee). She packaged them up and I paid the frankly overpriced amount of £2.00 per cake, (glad I didn't stay in as the price is bumped up even more!) normally a good price for a cupcake is £1.00 (a steal) but I'm used to paying £1.50 to £1.70 max, only in the London high endend 'Hummingbird Cupcakes have I paid £2.00 before. Shocked but foolishly thinking the price would reflect the quality I took my cakes (again no smile or bye offered) and went home. I shared out my cakes with friends 2 hours later and I have NEVER tasted a worse cupcake, ever! I'm shocked! The chocolate: Cake very, very dry, only a hint of chocolate taste, icing crunchy (ew!) and bland again a hint of milk chocolate, no rich yummy flavor here! Red Velvet: Bland and a little fake tasting with dry cake. Crunchy icing that had a hint of creamy falvour but barely a hint! New Yorker: Cake dry as a bone, sucked my tongue dry! Tiny coffee taste, icing crunchy, sickly and a little coffee like. How on earth can they charge this much for cake so poor? None of my friends or I could get through more than a few mouth fulls of any of the cake. The crunchy frosting (unblended perhaps or not enough care taken when made?) was disgusting and made us all feel sick. EDIT: Had to amend my review because I was reported, by whom I wonder? I find it quite funny that suddenly Hey Little Cupcake has pictures and more info and for some reason a lot of reviews from people with only 1 review all in a very short time frame. mmmmmmmmmm cakey beautifulness all rolled in to a little cute shop. This place needs to expand to a bigger shop it absolutly deserves it. I love the innovative ideas for cupcakes like cakes with an oreo cookie in the middle and the minty chocolate, or the red one with the gooey filling. I even heard they do one with a cream egg in the middle for easter! They also have the best selection of tea and coffee and lots of little gifts you can buy for people like cupcake making sets. read more

Went here with my friend the other day after hearing about it over Facebook, he opted for the Rocky Road and I had the American Oreo cupcake they were absolutely delicious! The frosting being the highlight of both. The shop is decorated in a really adorable manner (pink furniture with pink and white floor tiles) and there are quite a few tables and chairs which you can sit at. Prices vary between the cupcakes, from about £2.50-£3.00 a cupcake if eating in, it seems to be 50p cheaper if you're to eat out though. read more

After trudging through Manchester in the pouring rain trying to find the place, I was looking forward to the afternoon tea I'd booked online the day before. On arriving, they told me that they couldn't do it as they needed more than a day's notice (nowhere on the website does it say this!) I felt pressured into rebooking for the next weekend and was then asked to pay a £5 security deposit! (it doesn't say this on the website either!) Not wanting to appear stingy I duly handed it over and left feeling disappointed - I've now cancelled the booking, who knows if I'll get the £5 back...?? Hey little cupcake, What a loverly little shop. If cupcakes r ur thing then deff pay this place a vist. I have just got back from there decorating class and i had some much fun. i went on my own to gain a better finish on my own cupcakes. Everyone was loverly and didnt feel like I was on my own at all.
