I was looking for an American style brunch place (wanted fried chicken and waffles) and came across Home Sweet (although they didn't have C&W). I got their chicken tenders dish that came with fries, gravy, and slaw. It also came with a barbecue (I think it was barbecue) sauce. I was genuinely surprised as most brunch places I've been to never really serve any of their meals with sides (it's usually extra) so to have slaw and fries with this meal reminded me of how the food is back in America. The service was quick and after ordering, my food came soon after. I enjoyed the gravy more than the barbecue sauce. It had a bit of a sweet taste to it which works well with the chicken (I did find it a bit salty). The portion size was good for the price. I'm not too much of a fan of sweet things but I saw that they had pancakes and would try that next time I check this place out! read more

I've seen and heard about home sweet for a while now, so decided to finally take the plunge and go for brunch. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived but it was 1040am on a Friday so had only been open 40 minutes. We were able to book on advanced just incase and it did get much busier while we were there. The staff were extremely friendly, there was lots of space inside with gorgeous big windows and we got seated and were ordering after a complimentary glass of iced water was brought to us. Fairy low wait times so you know everything was cooked fresh, the plating was amazing and the food was top notch. I went for the banana nutella pancakes with a vanilla latte and a mimosa. I'd go back now if I could .. that's how good it was. read more

I would most likely return. They have an incredible beverage. The restaurant provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a cozy feel. They served absolutely wonderful breakfast and brunch fare. One of my New Year's resolutions is to eat out more. Not a usual one I know, but as long as it's in moderation, everything's all good. Most of the places that are on this list of 'must eat more food' goodness live in the Northern Quarter. Having spent much of my 'Manchester' time in the shadowy confines of Spinningfields it feels like such a nice change to move away from the glitz(ish) and glamour(ish) of the shiny skyscrapers and get into the slightly down at heel friendliness of the NQ. Now that the scene is set, Home Sweet Home is right at the top of the list of places that I wanted to try, so, at the start of an adventure down to London Town, and a good 2 hours to kill before the train, where better to get a spot of brunch like civilised people? The menu of a morning isn't hugely extensive, but the key things are on there - a solid selection of Eggs Benedict, a breakfasty Burrito or two, and potato hash. In my opinion, there's little that's more fulfilling in the morning that a plate of potatoes and meat on a cold day. So, in that vein, I plumped for the Steak and Egg hash. Big, tasty strips of tender steak, soft, runny poached eggs, sweet onion, gooey cheese, and delicious potato all feature, coming together to create something so filling that I think my stomach might have exploded just from looking at it. And it's not just a pretty face - it tastes good too! Now, the other table over did order Eggs Benedict, and I have to say that I am a huge fan, so of course I got Benedict Envy. This, unlike normal food envy (which is where you wish you'd ordered something else) means that you want the other thing *as well*. I'll definitely be making a trip back so that I can get some of that sweet muffin and egg action. Lastly, coffee - I had just the one cup (I'm excitable enough already), but if you go for the filter, you get as much as you want! And it's not skimping on the quality to do that either, it's genuinely nice coffee, certainly better that others who shall remain nameless (starts with 'Cost' in case you're wondering). I love upgrading awesome businesses, and after Home Sweet Home fed me one of the most epic breakfasts I've ever had, they are fully worth of 5 stars. I arrived to meet my workmates for breakfast on a Thursday morning and was seriously hungover and starving. In the mornings, they just have the cafe area open, not the back space where I sat when I came for dinner. As I looked over the brunch menu I was practically drooling on the table - a selection of eggs Benny dishes, classics, waffles, pancakes and then a section of hash dishes. A quick check with the waitress confirmed they could take the chorizo out of the Sun Devil Scrambler (I'm really not a chorizo fan) and they even said they could put in avocado instead. Win! (Sun devil scrambler has house hash, taco sauce, chorizo, scrambled egg, chipotle sour cream and coriander £8). The food arrived quickly and was just as amazing as I'd hoped it would be. It was a massive portion, the potatoes were nice and cheesy, and generally, it was a filling and epic breakfast. I would definitely go out of my way to go to HSH just to have this breakfast. Another thing that happened while I was here which I wanted to mention - the guy on the next table from me had broken down in his car outside, so was passing time in HSH while he waited to be saved. He mentioned his troubles to the staff and mentioned it was his anniversary with his wife that day, and as he was leaving they told him to take his pick of their luscious cakes to take to her, on the house. All you need to do is check out Chris M's photos and see the ridicularity of what we ate on Bingo Night. Yes, Bingo Night! HSH is single-handedly bringing back the dabber and what a joy it was. A quid for several sheets worth of game and home in time for 10pm. Who can say fairer than that on a Monday night? We shared a portion of their nachos and a Filth Burger, one of the specials. Good grief, it was filthy. We had the good fortune to be meeting the delightful Taylor and the Mason there for drinks and they attempted to help us identify what the 'filth' was. Was it the fact that the meat was so hunky chunky and pink in the middle, reminding me of when Uma Thurman orders her burger in Pulp Fiction to be 'bloody as hell'? Was it the fennel coleslaw and BBQ tomato sauce? Maybe the battered potato disc atop the burger itself? Whatever it was, it was freaking delicious, and the guac that came with the nachos certainly tingled my tastebuds. Sweet treats that night included the terribly gluttonous shared milkshake (but it was shared, remember!) of cookie dough and ice cream, and the ginger syrup sundae containing chewy, moist chunks of ginger cake soaked with golden syrup and served with vanilla ice cream. The dozens of positive reviews speak for themselves - HSH really does provide for a delicious and homely dining experience. A friend and I headed here one drizzly morning for brunch (served from noon until 2pm) and their menu was nicely short and sweet, well savoury...mostly. Though normally I'd choose a classic like Eggs Benedict (or 'Bennies', as they call them) I'd been told by others that their Breakfast Burrito absolutely had to be had, so it was duly asked for to the friendly waiter. What came was a decent sized portion (though I could admittedly have eaten two) and it was filled with hash brown, scrambled egg, chorizo, beans, cheese, chipotle sour cream and taco sauce. It. Was. Gorgeous. I'll almost certainly head back here to try other delights from their menus. Just a side note: the chap who served us was super attentive and friendly, unlike his lacklustre colleague who brought one of our meals over but left the used crockery from the previous diners (we moved tables to be sat next to the window). He spotted this immediately and cleared it away. Tip: they serve up breakfast (9am until noon) and dinner (noon until 9pm) too. I came here as part of my 'try Manchester' week. I came here as a treat to myself and had the sweetest breakfast I've ever had that didn't have a monkey or tiger on the box! Had a beautiful latte that was made just right and the waffles and eggs with bacon and blueberry and maple syrup was just unusual and amazing... I now understand why Americans are suffering an obesity crisis... If all breakfasts where this amazing I think I'd be the size of a house by now! Now time to get back to the YOGA but on a final note, the MEN got this place right, it is wonderful and I really recommend it, the quirky hipster atmosphere is just great for relaxing with friends or on your own, I will be back for brunch some day soon! read more

I'd heard and read great things about this place and let me say the reviews don't lie. It has a real intimate feel to the place, not too big but they work the space well, providing enough room to sit down and eat at a good sized table if you're there for the long haul or take a seat on the bar outlooking the street outside if you're looking for a spot to catch up on work like I was. NQ has seen a real uprise in the number of trendy and hipster coffee shops recently however there's one thing Home Sweet Home does to set themselves apart - their cakes. I initial went in as I said to do a bit of work and avail of the free Wifi and a quick caffeine boost, but I stupidly sat myself next to the cake counter and 15 minutes later I had a Trillionaire's Shortbread and a slice of Chocolate Cake sat next to my Macchiato. Both tasted amazing, and after a quick chat with the friendly staff, I discovered they make the cakes fresh, in house, every day. My favourite place for indulgent calorie laden meals. They have a really good breakfast/brunch menu with some unusual items on it. The cake counter (on the right as you walk in) is always full of cakes that wouldn't look out of place in Willy Wonka's production line, covered in sweets and with amazing flavours. I've never been in when there wasn't a wait for a table but it's usually 10 minutes or so and they have a few bar stools where you can perch while you wait and look over the menu. The cheeseburger toastie is their standout dish for me, it really does taste just like it sounds. I would go here every week if my budget and waistline allowed me to, there is so much on the menu I want to try. It's one of those places where every dish you see carried past to someone else makes you think 'why didn't I order that??' The atmosphere and interior are really cosy and it's a great place to have a casual but delicious meal with friends, family or a partner. read more

Home Sweet Home is a chameleon café that's perfect for any occasion. It's a place to go for a tasty snack at an affordable price (burgers, pulled pork etc usually come in at around £8), a place to take your mum/mother in law when they're in town, we took our little nieces to HSH for milkshakes and on this occasion I met my wife for coffee and cake as an afternoon snack. Special mention has to go to their baked apple pie and cinnamon cake, plus the rhubarb and ginger one that I stole a fair bit from my wife's plate was tres bien! £10 for 2 pieces of cake and a couple of coffees is good, cheap, wholesome fun if you ask me (unless you drop the cake all down you of course.....) read more

When one of my closest friends moved to London, there was one thing she was sure to miss about Manchester - and that thing is Home Sweet Home. Being the base for many post-work dinners and one pre-marathon meal (her, not me...) we knew it was the only place to head on her last trip back up North. Turning up circa 6pm on a Friday, we had a 10 minute wait on the stools by the window, but were soon taken through the the back area and seated. The menu hasn't changed much since our last visit a few months prior, other than the return of the beef chilli - the best friend's favourite! She easily made up her mind with the chilli, and I eventually decided on the philly cheesesteak, going against my usual choice of a burger or the fried chicken. Food came quickly and with a smile, which is always appreciated! The sandwich itself was pretty soggy, with the cheese sauce and juicy steak seeping into the bread, but for a white sub roll it held its own and was easy to slice and pick up. The flavours worked really well together, so I'd totally recommend if you fancy a little slice of Americana. The fries, as ever, were delicious - plenty of crispy bits! Washed down with a bottle of wine in some super chilled glasses, it was a nice relaxed meal with no pressure to eat up and leave, despite being a busy Friday night. Home Sweet Home indeed. read more

Stopped in here for a late night dinner with friends after a few drinks in the Northern quarter. Love the homely cafe feel and it's a great spot for a meal that's not going to break the bank. Exactly as the name suggests, it feels like you're Home Sweet Home. Serves American diner style food such as breakfast, hash, steak and eggs, burgers, salads and Mexican food. I had the steak and chips with peppercorn sauce for £12 but most of the items on the menu were around £7-£8 Really great place serving milkshakes, wine and cocktails. There's also a display filled with all sorts of cupcakes if you have a sweet tooth. I just wish they served the breakfast all day because I really wanted the steak and eggs! read more

I feel like I have been here enough times recently to change my review. The new staff here have made such a difference, and made this an enjoyable place to visit once again. This place is great for breakfast, American shakes, chicken, burgers ,nachos.. basically all the naughty things that bring you comfort. If the dining area is too full you can sit at the window to people watch and order drinks while you wait. The burgers always look good, but this time I had the veggie chilli which was deceptively filling. The garnish of crumbled tortilla chips was perfect, and these mini cheese breads. They also offer whacky and wonderful home baked cakes from a side counter to take away or snaffle inside. Unfortunately they don't make the boozy milkshakes for dessert anymore, but a waitress will happily add a shot of Jack Daniels to one (i recommend the kickstarter) . Overall a great place of for any time of the day, with a brilliant service. Drinks are a little pricey but besides this..good stuff read more

I had been wanting to visit Home Sweet Home for a very VERY long time - but every time i wanted to go it was far too busy and the wait was sometimes over an hour for a table. Understandable, as their food is incredibly good. After hearing good things about the food from friends and fellow Yelpers and from seeing with my own eyes on twitter the absolutely incredible cakes on offer I did stop by here last year for a coffee and a cake - which was lovely and then this weekend I had the opportunity to pop by for brunch. We arrived around 12.30 on a Sunday - and luckily were given a 30 minute wait for a table. I was happy to wait, so we grabbed two coffees and sat by the window waiting for a free table. It was very busy, and the small area around the cake and coffee counter near the entrance soon became crowded with people waiting for their tables. When our table was ready we were shown through to the area at the back at the resaurant and sat near the window. Although HSH is small, it is incredibly homely and was very relaxing. I ordered from the brunch menu (served from 12pm - 2pm) and decided to go for the Eggs Cali - two poached eggs on toasted muffin with smoked salmon, avocado, hollandaise and chipotle. It was incredible. One of the best dishes i have had for brunch. I was also lucky enough to try some of Neil C.'s Bennie Macho - Chorizo, house hash, taco sauce, poached eggs, hollandaise and chipotle sour cream. It was very good - particularly the house hash..! I'll be having plenty of that next time! We washed it down with two of their famous milkshakes - the Nutella toasted marshmallow shake, and a strawberry shake. Home sweet home is definitely a home away from home. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy yet buzzing and vibrant. Having spent a fair few lazy afternoons here in my time I can safely say that I'm a fan, in particular, I am a BIG fan of the nachos - they're a must if you've never had them before as fully loaded means just that! Today however I opted for the salt beef sandwich. It was good, it wasn't great! Sadly the sandwich had been left a bit too long and the bread had gone soggy on the bottom making it difficult to eat and I had to leave it on the side. I will say however that the salt beef was tasty and that definitely got gobbled up! This has in no way put me off and I will definitely be back for a plate of fully loaded nachos again soon! My friend was staying at mine for the weekend in Manchester post-work in Greece for 6 months over the summer. It was also the start of a nice long week off for me so before we headed back to the motherland (Newcastle) I thought it was high time she got a decent full-English breakfast. On the day it was tipping it down and in post-holiday blues I decided we were in need of a home cooked meal with warm surroundings. There was only one option in my mind! After arriving in what seemed like a hurricane I was welcomed with a steaming cup of Earl Gray to warm me up. The staff here are always fantastic, they give menu suggestions should you be struggling and offer you the best service morning noon and night! I ordered the smoked salmon and avocado eggs benedict - the creamy avocado and salmon went perfectly together with the lashings of hollandaise sauce. One of the best breakfasts' in Manchester - the menu is full of the usual suspects (the scrambled eggs is at a decent price if your on a budget) with a mixture of great culinary additions; I have the breakfast burrito on my hit list next time I go to Home Sweet Home! read more

Home Sweet Home is one of my favourite places to go in Manchester so I'm at a loss to know why I've not reviewed it yet! One of the reasons I love it so is that it fits the bill for so many occasions, from hangover-ridding brunch, to coffee and cake to a casual place for a relaxed early evening glass of wine. It epitomises the NQ with it's vintage-y cool decor, hipster staff and Americana menu but the whole thing works really well without being a total cliche. I've always found the food to be really good and the portions are enormous so my plans to have cake after lunch are always scuppered unless I'm out with an equally greedy/hungry friend. Talking of cake, they have the craziest cakes you have ever seen, made daily by their in-house baker. They're not that cheap at around £4 a slice but the price is definitely justified by the ginormous slice you get. The staff are always really friendly and last time I was in they were really accommodating of my friend and I who both had buggies. Service can sometimes be on the slower side but it's a casual place so I've never found it a big deal but this why it doesn't quite score full marks for me. read more

Went for breakfast this am - milkshakes fab. Mine was cookie and my friend had the blueberry one. Mine was perfect, the blueberry one tasted great but no lucky charms as described ! Both had poached eggs on sourdough - fairly good. Eggs were perhaps slightly overdone and bread slightly under toasted, but tasted nice - did the job ! My milkshake was really good (I mean, a Nutella milkshake, obviously I am going to love that) but I wasn't that impressed with the wings. There was some hint of a nice sweet sticky sauce around the bottom of the dish but that kind of flavour was lacking elsewhere. They need to up the spiciness factor. Sweet potato fries were ok, a little soggy. My friend said she liked her pulled pork bun. Our server was hilariously dazed but they were actually pretty efficient (in fact the food came so quickly it made me slightly suspicious). It's a really nice looking restaurant, the highlight being a counter full of entrancingly lurid cakes, one of which I must eat as soon as possible. read more

I must say, I love this place. They're to blame for my addiction of Vanilla Milkshakes and extravagant cakes. Every time I visit I over indulge and end up questioning whether I actually do have a sweet tooth or if I've been a terrible fraud all along. But aside from visits where I over indulge, I've also been there for lunch a couple of times they do some excellent sweet potato fries and other savoury food! The staff are always lovely and it has a very relaxed vibe, the only thing I'd say is when planning a visit go during the week as I've been down a few times on the weekend and found it impossible to get a table! read more

This weekend was my second trip here, having been taken by a friend a few months ago whilst visiting Manchester. Now we've moved here, I'm sure it'll become a regular brunch spot to entertain guests. We arrived around 11.30, just in time for the full breakfast menu (served until 12), but by the time we got seated on a busy Saturday we had actually missed it. This was a little disappointing as we had been given breakfast menus on arrival but no offer of "OK, we'll sneak in one last breakfast order" left us scrambling to re-decide. Given it was only 12.04, I would have expected a little more flexibility. Nevertheless, what we got was goood! I opted for the brisket with mac n' cheese sandwich and it was mighty enough to fill a hangover shaped whole. The brisket was superbly juicy, the jalapeño mac n' cheese a nice stodgy addition, and the sweet potato fries rounded it out nicely. The eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs also got good reviews, but the breakfast hash was a little underwhelming with distinctly un-crispy potatoes (and loads of them) with an low ratio of tasty toppings. On a previous visit, we did make it in time for breakfast and I enjoyed some of their delicious waffles. I'll definitely be returning soon to try some of their epic looking cakes. read more

This places just gets better" I know I've already rated it but it's got a new menu! And it's expanded! And it's just plain amazing, add my two five star reviews together to get a ten star review - no less than it deserves! Two visits here in one week - firstly with my two little sisters who loved it, we had the new loaded fries (covered in cheese and bacon goodness) and a selection of their cakes, one thing I love about this place is how original the cakes are there and they change all the time, keeps you going back... The second visit was with my friend from America, her first time in the UK and in Manchester, where better to take her? As usual it was great, the staff in there are awesome, (only slightly teasing her when she didn't know what a toastie was...) they soon had her converted that it's the best way to eat a cheeseburger anyway so it was another successful visit, can't get enough of the place...! One caffeine desperate mum plus one crazy four year old wheelchair user (pre physiotherapy) enter one hell of a popular cafe. Shown directly to a table, coffee and hot chocolate ordered our waiter was by far one of the best we've ever met. To be fair most people are kind towards my daughter. It's half cheeky grin and half positive wheelchair attitude. But this guy was genuine. We shared a full English, downed two strong and decent americano's (me) and finished with a ridiculously huge slice of pistachio cake. We chose the cake based on colour (cakes should look pretty) and a little advice from the waiter. Thankfully I train in the gym four days a week and Jenna's physical therapy is pretty intense so enjoyed finishing the lot. I can imagine there's a wait for tables on a weekend which could be the only bug bear. In summary, we loved it. I'd be very shocked to read a disappointing review. read more

Yeah, it has potential. However, the customer service leaves A LOT to be desired. There seemed to be dozens of waiting staff doing - wait for it - nothing. They looked bored and didn't seem to like the fact we were there, frankly; my teapot was practically slammed onto the table. And, the cake? They looked incredible in the display shelves. But, my so-called Nutella cake didn't even have a hint of hazelnut. Mary and Paul would've been disgusted. My friend's peanut butter slice was ok, but not extraordinary. Upon a wonderful Yelp event in Stockport, I came across Home Sweet Home and their sugar comatose milkshakes - don't take that as a bad thing! THEY ARE AMAZING! On my first visit last Friday I slurped my cookie milkshake down in less than a minute - with no regrets whatsoever. Time for the mains - A Santa Fe salad I did love the look of and chose with swift effect. This salad is made up of many of my favourite ingredients; Chicken, jalapenos, lettuce, tortilla chips, cheese, thousand island sauce. And they all give a mouthwateringly satisfied taste mixed together! I love the inclusion of the tortilla chips to add an extra crunch to your salad. I am definitely going back to zone in on more nommy selections from their menu! My new favourite place in the northern quarter :) read more

Todays afternoon has been fueled by Home Sweet Home in Manchester's northern quarter. For my lunch today I decided to go for the salt beef sandwich served with fries. The first thing to mention was that the portion was very generous, there was a mountain of fries and the sandwich itself was large and filled with salt beef, gherkins and mustard. The second thing to mention is that if you are watching your waistline this is probably not the place for you. I think a 24 hour period in the gym would just about burn off the plate I just ate.... I did not see a mass of healthy options on the menu so this is probably something to consider for the more health conscious. Overall this was a decent experience. Friendly staff, pleasant restaurant vibe and decent food. Im not sure this is my usual type of place but it was nice for a change. read more

My last review of Home Sweet Home wasnt exactly positive, but i decided to revisit Home Sweet Home. The venue was really busy because of the hot weather and we didnt think we would be able to sit outside, inside was really warm so really wanted to avoid sitting inside. Just as we were about the leave the waitress informed us that there was an outdoor area out the back so we decided to stay and check it out. The outdoor space was really nice, designed in a hippy type way and was somewhere that we was able to relax in. I had a oreo milkshake which was errrm... yummy! The cost I believe was £4.50 - my friend wondered if this was too expensive, however i was quite happy to pay it as it was so nice. I will be recommending Home Sweet Home to others. read more

Funny enough I'm not a dessert person but I love going to HSH solely to photograph all of the amazing cakes, they're just absolutely fabulous! A few years back I did have a toastie which was good and I always enjoy their tea. This last week I enjoyed the beet salad which was very good. It came out kinda of like a wedge style but with 2 mini lettuce heads. The croutons soaked up the beet purée and when it was all mixed together it was very delicious. Personally for me it was a little dry so I asked for a side of balsamic vinegar and that was perfect for me. It may have been dry for me as I didn't have the cheese but my cousin had the same salad with cheese and didn't need additional dressings. I collect mugs from all of my travels, I have several UK glasses so from this visit I purchased a HSH mug for 6 pounds and I'm looking forward to adding it to my collection in my kitchen in San Diego. For me, HSH is a lunch spot or a weeknight dinner spot, it's casual, they focus on cakes, teas and a "lunch" type of menu. However they have lots of alcoholic beverages if you do go in the evening and this time I was in I noticed a great breakfast menu. Recommended by a friend I couldn't visit Manchester without paying homage to the famous Home Sweet Home. There was a 15 minute wait for tables when we arrived so coffees were ordered in the interim. Bottomless morning coffee is very civilised idea and after a heavy saturday night very much appreciated! I went for the Eggs Cali and they did not disappoint. I love having avocado with my breakfast eggs! Our walk through the Northern Quarter to Home Sweet Home for Sunday breakfast was notable for the abscence of people on the street. It quickly became clear that they were all in Home Sweet Home! If in doubt, follow the crowd. They're rarely wrong. Lovely warm friendly staff, stunning food and baking. Perfect place for a traveling New Yorker in the mood for great eggs and perfect coffee. I found this place via Yelp. It over-delivered. 1. Coffee - I had an Americano. Smooth, no bitterness. So good I asked them if they roasted their own beans (they don't.) But beans are only half the battle. The barista is clearly a perfectionist. I had an espresso from another place nearby that boasted award-winning beans. But whoever made it had no love for the coffee and you could taste it. This Americano, on the other hand, was as good or better than I've had in the states (yes, I'm talking to you Stumptown.) 2. Food - I had a salmon Eggs Benedict. Poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado, red bell peppers, diced onions. I held the hollandaise and chipotle sour cream. I'm just not a sauce guy. Don't hate. The English muffin was toasted and buttered, the presentation was pretty without being fussy. The plates were the kind of every-day china you'd have at home. So while you are eating, beneath the buzz of conversation you hear the clinking of silverware on dishes, like you were at a huge family dinner. 3. Price - These days England is expensive for us Americans. Fortunately this place is not. My eggs were seven pounds, the coffee another two. That's what I would pay at Bubby's in TriBeCa. I stumbled across Home Sweet Home during a recent visit to Manchester and loved it so much that I'm considering moving there! I was lucky enough to try both the Steak N Eggs and the Waffle Fried Chicken and can definitely recommend both. The steak was cooked to perfection and really tender and there was just a hint of kick from the chilli. The chicken was cooked in buttermilk and was incredibly succulent and went surprisingly well with the waffles. Home Sweet Home cured a definite gap for my world. My girlfriend loves cake, tea and bunting. I like pulled pork, beer and good music. This place provides both. We can be having totally different experiences and both be happy. The only reason I gave 3 stars is there are better places to get any of the above individually. I've been to Home Sweet Home on a couple of occasions, usually just for coffee/cake. However this was my first visit for hot food. We were promptly greeted at the door and shown to a table. I ordered the full breakfast and my dining companion ordered poached eggs on sour dough toast. We both also ordered a cup of tea. A reasonable amount of time elapsed before the food arrived, which looked, smelled & tasted devine. The bacon was crispy but not brittle, the scrambled eggs were perfectly moist, as was the black pudding. A slice of toast buttered with best butter complemented the meal. Our waiter was attentive, without being intrusive. I found that the chairs were a little bit uncomfortable but I guess they're going for that quirky rustic look. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and will happily return. This is one of those places to go to when you have guests from outside of the city- they're sure to love it. read more

I have been meaning to come to this place for ages and I follow them on twitter so I know how amazing their cakes look. We popped in for a light bite. My friend had the cheeseburger toastie which tasted devine and was worth the wait and I had the Fruity Forest Cake which was a little bit dry and average in taste. Looks wise, the cake is huge and interesting with sweets and lollypops on top. The reason why I gave it three stars was that it was really busy and we were sat inside and we could barely hear ourselves talk as the clattering of cups, saucers, spoons etc. was quite defining as well as the level of noise from people talking including the staff. Saying that, it is a quirky place, it has a liquor licence and somewhere I would take people who haven't been there before. I apologised to my friend and said that I should've taken them over the road, except this place has a bigger lunch menu. read more

I wish I had tried this place earlier on during my 4 month stint in Manchester because it's awesome! A cute little restaurant kind of tucked away in the amazing Northern Quarter area in Manchester, this place is a hidden gem. I came here with a couple of friends and among us, we ordered the sweet carolina burger, mac n cheese, the hamburger toastie and 2 slices of cake (the oreo and carrot cake). The burgers? Delicious ! Especially if you love BBQ sauce as much as I do, this burger will definitely fill you up with the pulled pork ON TOP of the fried chicken you get inside. I had some of my friends mac and cheese and it wasn't really my taste as it was really soft and I prefer al dente pasta but the flavor was not bad at all. The hamburger toastie literally tastes like a burger in between 2 slices of toast so you can never go wrong with that. My only qualm about this place was the cakes- not as amazing as I would have imagined with the many reviews I read raving about them.The cakes we got tasted very dry and the pretzels and caramel popcorn we got on top of one of them were stale which took some magic away. I will definitely be making a trip back here if I'm ever in Manchester again! read more
