It's not strictly true, however. Don't get me wrong, they have plenty of vintage stuff, but I spoke with the owner who told me they specialise more in high-end products, rather than exclusively vintage gear. They seemed to have a great collection of valve amps (you know what I'm talking about musos). The shop floor was a tip, completely covered with amps, speakers, turntables. But that just added to the charm. They really know what they're doing in this place, and you're going to get a much better, more personal experience if you buy from them rather than a big chain. People will so often discredit buying pre-owned items, but for prices as low as those offered by Cex, it's difficult to say no! It's not exactly in the city centre, but Leith Walk is a popular shopping street so you can come here and still have a browse about in all the other shops. For any electrical equipment these places are hard to beat and this place's speciality it its hi-fi and audio section which offers fabulous value for money especially on any item that plays CDs making it ideal for those with an impressive CD collection. Other than electrics it only offers a few musical instruments and golf clubs, but it really doesn't matter because it does do electrics very well.

Upon arrival I was immediately offered a hot drink (welcomed on a very cold day) and from then on the conversation went on for an hour at which no point was I pressured into buying anything nor was I or my HiFi system insulted. There's nothing wrong with visiting some of the other HiFi shops in Edinburgh but you would be missing out if you didn't at least try Loud and Clear to see and hear what they have to offer. 5 star service and people.

Honestly, the advice was a load of tosh; I think it was the manager (John rings a bell) who decided the best way to deal with a customer was to just talk over everything I said, usually with little actual product knowledge, especially anything technical, and continuously refer to "other customers" who "you know, really really love our service and keep coming back." Why do they keep coming back? I have used a decent set of floor standers for the last 20 years and they are still perfect!? Anyway, I ended up going to Richer Sounds and they sorted me out with a decent deal on a Monitor Audio setup, far and away a better experience. My advice, avoid Loud & Clear.
