One of my favorite places for a yearly fall family tradition! Apple season means apple picking, apple cider donuts, hard cider & fun for the entire gang. Feeding & visiting the goats is always a hit for the kids. Depending on when you go, you can sometimes expect a bounce house, pony rides, food vendors, live music etc. The donut line can get absurdly long but it's never too long of a wait for those local-favorite cider donuts! The donuts are always fresh & warm & otherworldly delicious. The barn also offers many local treats, apple cider, fresh eggs & veggies, fudge, honey, handmade products & so much more. We did the Tractor Tour today (My Daughter, Son-in-Law and three year old Grandson) and I have to give a shout out to Dennis who was our Tour Guide! It was NOT just a wagon ride through the apple orchard!! He told us the history of the orchard, let us stop 3 or 4 times and taste a few apples (and grab a few for home!) Plus he gave us tokens for a taste at the Slyboro Ciderhouse! It was so much fun and my Grandson LOVED it!! I highly recommend it!! read more

Stopped by looking for fresh cider. We were nicely surprised with food trucks and music! The pulled pork was sold out so we had burgers and fries. The lines both inside and out moved along quickly. My family and I took a trip to Granville, NY. It was must to visit Hicks Orchard before we left. The kids had fun, there was a bouncy house, some animals that they can feed as well. A lot of people were there on the Sunday we attended, so the line for the donuts were long, but definitely worth it. They make them right in front of you. So they're fresh and hot. We got two bags !!! We also made sure to get two bottles of Hicks famous apple cider ! read more

I see this very happy pleasant girl at the Shirt Factory vendor fair on Thursday nights. She always has a smile. So I decided to take a tide to Hocks Orchid on her recommendation. once I arrived I realized I have been there prior. Its a nice working or hid with plenty to do. Today when I went it was very quiet as it was during the week. I walked around a-bit and looked at the goats as well as the buildings and property. Being a spirit person, what really grabbed my attention was the hard cider room. The tasting room was set up very inviting. The ciders on the shelves all had signs that explain them. I asked for help and a you g man I believe his name was Brendon came in and gave me a very in depth education on the ciders. He was as much a pleasure to speak with as the girl at Shirt factory. I did purchase two bottles and looking forward to sharing and drinking. would highly recommended and definitely will return for some apple picking. read more

Waited 50+ minutes for them to open the you pick gate on a Friday morning. The feed for the goats was out. The donuts were fresh however and the staff working in the store were very polite and attempted their best to get ahold of the worker who was suppose to open the gates. They were very apologetic and friendly throughout the morning. Overall setting is great, I have been coming here since I was a kid, maybe it was just an off day and I hope that's the case. Even if this orchard didn't produce delicious hard cider, I would still give it five stars on the strength of its apple cider donuts. Man, those are good. And part of what makes them good is that the bakery keeps cranking them out as needed, as opposed to trying to get ahead of the rush. That means, you're going to have to wait in a longer line. However, it means you will also be rewarded with hot, fresh donuts. It's important to hit the cider tasting room before the donut eating. The sweet donuts would ruin the flavor of the ciders. Plus the wait in the donut line will help make sure you aren't feeling the effects of the booze by the time you get back in your car. That is a win-win. The only problem is that it's a bit too far out of the way to make it our regular donut spot. However, if you find yourself anywhere near this great orchard, you owe it to yourself to make a stop. read more

Short version: I was overcharged $20, the owner, Dave, will not refund me. I was at the orchard a couple weeks ago for Upick. Everything was fine except that the young man at the upick accidentally overcharged me by $20. He wasn't able to go back in his system to refund it since he was offline, but took down my name and number and left a note for his boss, Dave. After not hearing from Dave I called him. He told me he was too busy to deal with it at the time and to call back the next day, which I did. The next day l, and every day thereafter for a week I left my name and number for Dave to call me back, which he never did. I finally got a hold of him one day and he put me on hold and never picked back up. 3 calls later and I finally got ahold of him again. He promised he would issue the refund for the overcharge right away as soon as he finished with the customer he had. That was 4 days ago, and no refund has been issued. I really gave them every opportunity I could to make it right. I'm not worried about the $20 as much as I am the fact that I was blatantly ignored for almost two weeks. read more

I think this is a local favorite. Visited with the bf's family while in New York. They have the best cider donuts I've ever had, literally fresh off the conveyor belt. I kinda consider myself a cider donut snob since I live in Mass and there are some very good cider donuts around there, but I don't think you can beat freshly fried donuts! Delicious! They come in both plain and sugar...the sugar being my favorite. We also picked up some house made cider and picked apples. They had only Macs this weekend but it sounds like they have other apple varieties as well. A cool place! read more

We had a lovely morning picking blueberries at Hick's Orchard! We came away with ten pounds of luscious berries - after everything we ate! (We had to sample each bush, of course!) There are tons still on the bushes ripening. Apple cider donuts fresh out of the oven, and Battenkill Creamery black raspberry ice cream! Earlier this month we picked cherries there. Wonderful. Its 60 miles for us, but well worth the trip. read more

I have been going to hicks for nearly 40 years. Every year it gets worse. The lines are too long and they get more expensive every year. This year they were changing $42 for a half bushel. I was there 30 minutes after opening and was told they weren't ready to open yet. Then after waiting for over an hour for donuts I was told they I couldn't have the amount I wanted. It was complete chaos. There was no cider out and they had the gates closed to the orchard. read more

The 45min drive here from Lake George is definitely a worthy side excursion with the family for a few hours. You can go apple picking, feed some farm animals, go on a haystack ride, enjoy the cider wine tastings (similar to visiting a vineyard), sit at the tables or picnic on the grass, play some outdoor games and just enjoy the outdoors with some memorable photo taking. They do have pizza and sandwiches for those who havent had their lunch, but the real treat and attraction for us was their freshly cooked-on-the-spot apple cider donuts and their refreshing apple cider juice. Guests can walk through their shop and view the team at work in the kitchen and their mass production of their infamous apple cider donuts. Order a cup of coffee and you're good. read more

During the Krispy Kreme donut craze I knew that despite all the rumblings of how great they were they couldn't match up against a small donut maker in Granville NY. Hicks Orchard has the greatest donuts in the world. Get the cinnamon ones, eat them hot off the oil, and you'll be in heaven. Get some apple cider which they make on site too and you'll have a meal that might not make you live to 80 but will make sure your life on earth is as close to heaven as possible. You can also pick apples here and they have a lot of different varieties. We normally picks macs and spies when we went, Macs for eating and Spies for baking. The orchards are actually really nice though they tend to get crowded during the peak season. The line for donuts might be long, but it is certainly worth the wait. read more

I'm so happy my family decided to take the 45 minute drive out to the Hicks orchard from Lake George because it was SUCH a wonderful respite from city life. I seriously thought the place looked like a children's storybook come to life. We first went to the (free!) hard cider tasting in the attached Slyboro Ciderhouse and the woman who conducted the session was incredibly knowledgable. She taught us a lot about their in-house cider making process and was great at telling us what apple notes to look for in each tasting. They make 5 different kinds of cider and I ended up liking them so much (especially the one infused with currents) that I purchased two bottles! We then ventured outside to go blueberry picking and even though it was the end of the season, they still had lots of unpicked bushes for us to have plenty to fill our baskets. Nobody else was out there either so it was especially enjoyable to feel like we had the whole field to ourselves. After you have picked your fill of blueberries, you bring them inside the farm so they can be weighed and purchased. We bought 2.5 lbs for only $3/lb! Totally worth it for the experience. Inside the farm was adorable. I felt like I was walking into Grandma's kitchen with the cute fall decor and all the homemade cookies and apple themed products for sale. The best part though was the apple cider donuts...YUM! Absolutely delicious and so fresh, you can actually see them making it through the window. You can get either plain or cinnamon sugar. I definitely recommend the latter! If that wasn't all, they even have cute farm animals outside! They are very friendly and will come right up to you, especially if you bring them some nibbles (which you can buy for 50¢). Everyone here was so warm and welcoming that I highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a great, fun family experience! read more

I am not sure I would even give it 1 star .. Went there yesterday waited an hour and half to get donuts . They had 2 Windows open however the service was awful. The outside window was taking cash only and the window inside was taking credit cards only . For credit cards you had to wait in one line pay and then take your receipt to another line . There weren't any signs telling you this . So there were people that waited in line then when they got to the window they either wouldn't take your cc because it was cash only or you got to the window without a receipt and you needed one. On top if that there wasn't many activities for the kids . There was one bouncy house . I have been coming to Hicks since I was little girl , I have brought my children and are now taking my grandchildren, I think next year I will look for other options . Apple picking at its finest. They've got quite a lot of land with rows of apple trees as far as the eye can see. 2 bushels for $15 each. You can't beat those prices. They also have free wine tasting (the winery portion just started in 2007), a gift shop containing items made on site, a petting zoo for the kiddies, and my personal favorite: fresh apple cider donuts! The line was like 30 people deep but man was it worth the wait. 2 bags hot off the press. We barely made it back with both bags. Ha! read more

Maybe I just went in with the wrong expectations. It was not a charming, back-to-the-basics rural setting I was hoping for. Granted, it was a weekend when we visited, so it was very busy and crowded. But the experience overall was way too kitschy with an overbearing emphasis on attractions. First we went to pick apples. We felt like cattle being herded throughout the orchard to just find our way to pick apples. It isn't obvious where the u-pick apples are. From the main barn, you are told to drive down the road and go in the next gate to get to the u-pick apples. It isn't that far, so we walked. But that must not be the norm since we were ignored by employees who must be used to only helping people in their cars. We continued to walk anyways, and got the run around just to get to the honeycrisp apple trees which happen to be right by the barn where we started. Got a disorganized experience in the orchard. Then we thought we would try the hard cider tasting for $3. We felt rushed by the people giving the tasting, and they seemed totally apathetic and bored. The tastings portions were really small. Some of my tastings were just a dribble, which was disappointing especially for being charged for it. Lastly, we wanted to get some donuts. Can't complain much about fried dough rolled in sugar. After going onto their website and seeing that they had a corn maze and hayrides we went down with 2 of our grandchildren. While my husband took the kids to see the goats I went into the store to see where to go for the corn maze only to be told that they don't have one. Asked about the hayrides and the girl didn't know anything about it so she asked another employee who said yes they do have them but didn't know when the gentleman would be in to do them. Maybe the owners should 1. make the employees aware of times of the activities and 2. take the corn maze off of their website. We had two very disappointed kids. We did love their donuts but don't think I will go back. read more
