    So fresh!!

I was up here close by for a wedding and I had to come visit. Hicks is such a family friendly orchard with so many choices of experiences... you can pick your own or they have countless bags ready for you to choose from. You want to taste cider(hard or not) they have that as well. The shops are full of great merch, sweets, beverages and more. You can really sense the pride of this family owned orchard. The holidays are coming up so stop by and stock up on everything Apple!!!

My family and I took a trip to Granville, NY. It was must to visit Hicks Orchard before we left. The kids had fun, there was a bouncy house, some animals that they can feed as well. A lot of people were there on the Sunday we attended, so the line for the donuts were long, but definitely worth it. They make them right in front of you. So they're fresh and hot. We got two bags !!! We also made sure to get two bottles of Hicks famous apple cider !

I see this very happy pleasant girl at the Shirt Factory vendor fair on Thursday nights. She always has a smile. So I decided to take a tide to Hocks Orchid on her recommendation. once I arrived I realized I have been there prior. Its a nice working or hid with plenty to do. Today when I went it was very quiet as it was during the week. I walked around a-bit and looked at the goats as well as the buildings and property. Being a spirit person, what really grabbed my attention was the hard cider room. The tasting room was set up very inviting. The ciders on the shelves all had signs that explain them. I asked for help and a you g man I believe his name was Brendon came in and gave me a very in depth education on the ciders. He was as much a pleasure to speak with as the girl at Shirt factory. I did purchase two bottles and looking forward to sharing and drinking. would highly recommended and definitely will return for some apple picking.

Even if this orchard didn't produce delicious hard cider, I would still give it five stars on the strength of its apple cider donuts. Man, those are good. And part of what makes them good is that the bakery keeps cranking them out as needed, as opposed to trying to get ahead of the rush. That means, you're going to have to wait in a longer line. However, it means you will also be rewarded with hot, fresh donuts. It's important to hit the cider tasting room before the donut eating. The sweet donuts would ruin the flavor of the ciders. Plus the wait in the donut line will help make sure you aren't feeling the effects of the booze by the time you get back in your car. That is a win-win. The only problem is that it's a bit too far out of the way to make it our regular donut spot. However, if you find yourself anywhere near this great orchard, you owe it to yourself to make a stop.

I think this is a local favorite. Visited with the bf's family while in New York. They have the best cider donuts I've ever had, literally fresh off the conveyor belt. I kinda consider myself a cider donut snob since I live in Mass and there are some very good cider donuts around there, but I don't think you can beat freshly fried donuts! Delicious! They come in both plain and sugar...the sugar being my favorite. We also picked up some house made cider and picked apples. They had only Macs this weekend but it sounds like they have other apple varieties as well. A cool place!

Well organized, easy to get in/out, minimal need for walking, and very little mud on one's feet. We pick blueberries each summer, multiple times per season. We have picked peaches in summer 1-2 times, and have picked apples in the fall a few times. Each time it's a great experience. The apple picking gets crowded, but never crazy. We've never had an experience where we were sent to pick in a section that had been picked over and had little fruit. Each time it's a great experience, both for adults and children. Well organized traffic, parking, checkout, bags/buckets. I can't recall a time I felt like things were crazy or disorganized. Prices are fair. The big bonus of course are the treats that they bake up: apple cider doughnuts, pastries, everything I've ever had has been amazing. Makes me want to move in and work there, it's just so wonderful. Highest recommendation!

I'm a cheese head…read more So when my friend was making our itinerary for a trip to VT, I was really excited to try this place! Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!

No other syrup…read morecompares and I always go out of my way to visit anytime I'm anywhere in the greater New England area! Sadly this year I didn't get to visit New England - but lucky for me Sugarbush ships nationwide!! So I tried it out and ordered some of their syrup and my fave cheeses. Ordering online via their website was super easy. I ordered my fave dark variety of their maple syrup and 4 cheeses: horseradish cheddar, jalapeño cheddar, sharp cheddar, and Monterey Jack. Their horseradish cheddar is my absolute fave - a wonderful kick of the spicy horseradish blends so well with their rich cheddar. I really love the jalapeño cheddar too - packed full of flavor with just the right amount of kick - not overwhelming but enough to taste it. The other two were great as well - you can definitely tell their cheeses are made fresh on site - flavors are just next level compared to industrial-manufactured cheeses from the grocery store chains. And the maple syrup is also in a league of its own - nothing mass-manufactured from any grocery chain holds a candle to the rich, complex flavors and velvety texture. The syrups also last quite a long time so I'm able to keep my stocks full yearly! Since I was ordering cheese with a long way to travel, and it was still quite warm in parts of the US, their website suggested adding one of their insulated shipping boxes for an extra fee of $8. I didn't want to risk ruining my cheese so I did and all arrived in excellent condition! They pack it in extra insulated styrofoam with ice packs. So it's definitely worth it imo. Next year I'll be in Maine in October so I'll definitely be planning an extra day or two to pop over to Sugarbush on my way back out haha!! See yall next fall!

Time for another review. The creemees are a bit larger than last year it seems, and the prices are…read morestill super-reasonable. No surprises at the Sugar Shack, a delightful trip through rural NY and South-Western Vermont, albeit 40 plus miles one way for us. Been there perhaps a dozen times since 2024, still have found nothing that would make me even think about a rating less than 5 stars. I am a picky, demanding, relatively hard to please customer. I believe that the key to running a business is consistency. Run whatever kind of business you want to run but be consistent. The customer has a right to know what to expect next time, after his first visit . Any business can hit it just right and deliver a world class experience once; the key to a steady 5 star rating is to deliver that time and time again. Sugar Shack does exactly that. Their creemees are, quite simply put, perfect. First time, third time, eighth time, twelfth time. Never varying in intense maple flavor that tastes just like syrup right out of the jug. Never poor consistency. Always, always, thick and creamy and substantial. I did notice one difference late last summer; the size of the large cones increased a bit with no corresponding price increase. Prices for the creemees are super reasonable. Five of us went there the other day and the bill was pennies over $20. Two larges, 3 smalls. For a premium quality cone filled with plenty of ice cream, being sold in a touristy area, that is phenomenal. Don't like ice cream? What the heck is wrong with you???? :) Nevertheless, their apple cider donuts, especially the cinnamon coated version, are really good. Always fresh, and much less greasy than the genre is known for. Not heartburn, no disgusting grease soaked bag on the way home, just plain great flavor and freshness. Time for a bit of a ramble. These people, and their business, are real. The two young ladies that run the store are charming and efficient. They are nice to customers because they are nice people, not because there is a tip jar on the counter. I have been on enough cruises and eaten in enough restaurants in my 76 years to have developed a pretty accurate sense of someone being phony because they are in a tipped position, and being blunt, this ain't that. It would seem that the key to the Sugar Shack for me is the realness, the staff, the creemees. Somehow though there is more. They have a wonderful tree shaded side yard with old fashioned picnic tables. Those tables outside, so unassuming, so very not fancy, so utterly 'country', just fit perfectly with the trees and the overall rural ambiance. Going there is relaxing and brings me back to being a much much younger version of myself. Born and raised in NYC, at 14 the family moved to a town in Upstate NY with a population of 1200. Sugar Shack brings back memories of little roadside ice cream places and snack bars and a slower, more peaceful, just plain better time. The owner and her staff (relatives if I understand correctly) are providing a lot more than ice cream and maple syrup and assorted delicious premium treats and foodstuffs. They are bringing us back in time to when business was interactions between people, not transactions with a multi-national corporation. Well done, ladies, well done.

If you want a taste of both, you can order the "cider sammich", which is the homemade hot cider donut sliced in half and filled with and topped with the maple creemee!! Plus, they offer gluten free cones, no extra charge, and their prices are very reasonable!! They even offer a baby cone, but I guarantee if you get one of these, you'll go back in for a second! We make sure to visit for a maple creemee every fall! It's also a little gift shop with maple syrup and other fun things to look at or buy! So much fun!
