A new camping venue for me and hubby, we were excited. And it was just lovely. There is a caravan section in the first part and then a camp field behind that, where we headed to. In this field there are designated campfire spots with great big tree trunks set around the fire area for sitting on. And supplied at these spots are logs of fire wood, free to use... as much as you want. Being allowed campfires is a important requirement for us when looking for campsites and to have firewood included in the price of the stay is great. You will need to bring your own kindling and small logs to get the base fire going, but that's grand with us. By the camp field are grassy meadows and a really nice pond. As a result the birdlife is excellent. By said pond is a lovely swinging bench; I recommend sitting here in the early evening for the dusk chorus. And I can report that some Ravens did indeed make a flyover appearance over the weekend. The facilities are a little rough around the edges, but this is perfectly fine for camping. The kitchen room stocked with plenty of equipment you might need to dip into. If you've forgotten anything, check, they might have it. The loos were grand. The shower I didn't use, so cannot comment on it. It is electric from what I understand. The lady in charge of Raven's Rest is just that, a lady. Deirdre was very welcoming and very forward in offering an open door approach should we need anything during our stay. She was just a phone call away. Per night it works out at 10 EUR a tent and then 5 EUR per person i.e. one night for two of us and one tent was 20 EUR. I look forward to returning to Raven's Rest for future camping fun.

Tour groups that listen to the rules get to do more stuff than just what's on the itinerary because they will be able to trust you to be back to the van on time. We were able to see a lot of non touristy parts of ireland that were super scenic and peaceful. I loved seeing loads of animals including sheep, cows, dolphins, deer, birds, and dogs. We did do the bike ride and sea safari as optional extras. Very good add ons. You don't miss anything from the main tour when participating in the extras.

Our off road adventures had us laughing and enjoying all the countryside had to offer. The excursions were fantastic. The hotels were cozy and had tons of charm. Upon booking Margaret the owner contacted me to find out the time of my arrival. Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by Margaret. She made me feel so very Welcome. She explained everything about the area , the Bed&Breakfast and showed me my room. My room was so very clean, great bathroom, great bed , television , desk and was just perfect. In the lobby area you have access to coffee, tea, water, milk and biscuits. Absolutely an amazing set up. The next morning I had an amazing full Irish Breakfast. Great Coffee and Toast also. The dinning room is very cozy and very well set up. Both Margaret and her Husband Michael made the breakfast and made sure I had everything I needed. They are very proud of their Bed&Breakfast, Area and genuinely care about their guests. The Bed&Breakfast is located near great restaurants in Mcreddin Village and the beautiful village of Aughrim. There was a cozy den downstairs with books and a fireplace that you could relax in. We were disappointed that the fire wasn't going when we arrived because we were so cold but it was going the next night and we hung out there a bit before dinner. Breakfast was delicious and because we had to catch the train early our last day Daphne kindly made us to go bags of breakfast, extra tricky because I am gluten free and my daughter is vegetarian. Rathdrum is tiny but Stiraboutlane is within walking distance of a grocery, a few restaurants, the train station and Avondale.

The next day, we had nocks on our door from C.C asking us if we would like him to attend to our room, which we said no, politely, and we left for our day in Glendalough. Upon our return we found the room was cleaned but our personal items were rearranged and gone through. The following day during our breakfast he made us uncomfortable by making appoint of sharing the personal details of his competitors and their personal lifes. Which was unprofessional and out of tone with the warm welcome of the B&B. Unfortunately, when we departed from the room, we accidentally left a jacket behind, in which we called him when we arrive home. It was on this call, we found a very rude side to C.C. In which he sounded less personable and rude than in person. We made it clear that we were happy to pay and compensate any inconvenience to return. After several phone calls he promised he would send it asap, he did not send. So, after a month, we called again to see if the jacket was still in his possession and it was. Therefore, we were forced to drive 140 kilometres to take it back. When we arrived the B&B he gave the jacked and became very abusive. Stating there was no post office, although there was one 7 minutes away. The way he spoke, I had to leave in tears. In summer nice house, nice location; at the same time very intruding and unprofessional experience.

The lodge itself is set up on a hill overlooking the lush green Irish countryside and surrounded by naturalized gardens. The outside of the lodge blends traditional with modern as does the inside. There are cats and dogs that belong to the innkeepers roaming the grounds. Our room was "rustic modern" with a vaulted ceiling and beams. Everything was new and modern inside. We had a walk-in shower that worked very well. The Irish innkeepers were very nice and friendly and they had some help from two non-Irish young ladies. We have not yet had breakfast but I am looking forward to "The Full Irish Breakfast." Overall we are quite satisfied with our lodging selection and would definitely return here.
