This is a wonderful old, local store, one of a dying breed of similar places which used to be…read morecommon in downtowns but are now sadly mostly long gone. Santa Rosa is fortunate to have a place like this still. It's a mixture of nice stationary store selling a huge range of pens (and refills), pencils, stationary, cards, etc., plus nice homewares like good crystal and china, along with games, puzzles, and art. They sell a number of locally made or themed items, too, such as art and crafts by local artists, puzzles with local images or themes from the area, and more. It's also a great place to get Christmas decor at Christmas time, for during the Christmas season they sell a nice range of ornaments and nutcrackers, including high-quality German-made nutcrackers and wooden ornaments, ones instead of just the more common lower-grade things one can find anywhere.

I stopped in to hunt for a Valentine's Day gift and was immediately met with a bewildering number of choices. It's the kind of place where you go in for one thing and end up contemplating an entire lifestyle upgrade. Their selection of greeting cards is easily the best in the area--actually witty, high-quality stuff that doesn't feel like a grocery store afterthought. What really makes this spot a gem is their support for the community. I managed to score a fantastic Valentine's piece from a local artisan, which beats a generic box of chocolates any day. Whether you're looking for fine crystal, unique jewelry, or quirky home decor, the variety is genuinely impressive. The service was top-notch--helpful without hovering--and you can't beat the ideal location right in the heart of downtown. It's a local institution for a reason.

I love this charming local art center and have enjoyed many exhibits here over the years. Today we…read morevisited the Wayne Thiebaud exhibition, which was absolutely fabulous. I've seen a number of his works before at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, but several of the pieces on display today were new to me--such a treat to experience different works up close. The gift shop is small yet thoughtfully curated, featuring items inspired by the current exhibit along with creations by talented local artisans. Admission is very reasonable, and students receive discounted entry at just $10. Donations are also warmly welcomed and help support this wonderful community art space.

When I…read moreentered and asked about admission I was told entry is free, though they do also have a donation box. In addition to the small gallery of (mostly local) artists, they also had some art pieces for sale. I was impressed by the quality of the work and fell in love with several pieces on display. Most of the pieces were also for sale, though nothing I would consider inexpensive. It's art, so you'll have to decide how much you like something and if you want to purchase it. It also seems like non-local artists could display work here if they were a member of the center. Maybe I should look into it! Really nice place to stop for an hour or two. Highly recommend it.
