This is THE BEST Midcentury Modern store in the Bay Area. Everything is high-quality and authentic. A sanctuary from the mass-produced made-in-China replica CRAP! I drove 2 hours today for this pilgrimage and it was 1000% worth it. Craig is extremely friendly, personable, and even offered water for my dog after a long drive. I bought 2 chairs--I could have bought more if I didn't have a thing called a "budget". The entire compound is magical as it's also full of art galleries where the artists themselves are there working on site. I came in to take a look at a chair and was amazed by this place. One of the best spots for high end vintage furniture and art in the entire Bay Area. They have great taste. This isn't random or thrift like at all. They also understand that pricing items too high won't generate sales, so they have things priced to move. This is not a vintage 'stuff' store. This is a living, breathing, curated MCM wonderhouse! Craig Janakos, owner, has an amazing eye for vintage. He is personable, knowledgeable, really kind and considerate of his 'guests'. Because that is who you are when you visit his main gallery or warehouse - a guest. Carl, his assistant, is also a great guy who can tell you a lot about how to care for the pieces. The pieces, furniture, lighting, paintings, objects d' art, doors(!), radios, vases, jars and other items are pretty darn amazing and very well curated. I can think of no better spot to check out MCM either. I was fortunate enough to find a lovely credenza that was perfect. I was worried about delivery. No problem, Craig had the answer! He and Carl delivered it locally. WOW. That is very rare. Ask Craig anything about a piece and he is happy to chat with you. He knows more about antiques, vintage or MCM than anyone I've met outside of a museum. Do stop by, it is worth any drive you have to take. Next time I'm Fulton bound, first STOP! read more

What an amazing place and team! Excellent experience. I saw a table I liked on their website, asked Craig (owner) to hold it, and drove up from San Francisco. The site photos and descriptions are helpful and accurate. Craig and his team are super nice, and Craig is clearly passionate about being a custodian of beautiful furniture (many of which have cool stories behind them). Be sure to check out both the main building and the adjacent building (has even more furniture). An illuminating experience! It was Friday, and after an amazing experience up at Autocamp Russian River, (we'll get to that later) I needed to use the restroom as a result from courteously offered coffee from Vicki, the lovely server at the Garden Grill next to Autocamp. Anyways, as I suggested to the most beautiful person in the whole entire world who happened to be my copilot, that this rustic metallic farmhouse looking compound looked a nice repository for some hidden gems, and some semi pressing needs that I had inherited, we pulled over. The teetering between skepticism and a possibility of me finding an arched lamp of a mid century style started to lean towards the more brightly side as in pulling in, through the crack of a restored sliding barn-door, I saw what looked to be the cache of Finn Juhl. After exploring the wonderful Art Gallery adjacent to Janakos and Company we entered the doors that would deliver something that exceeded expectations of the specimen that I had been searching for the last few months. Of course it wasn't my own eye that first discovered my mid-century design miracle, but the suggestion from the intelligent and beautiful partner that I had been given the fortunate opportunity to travel with for the past couple of days that I ask the two welcoming gentleman who had greeted us if something that I had visualized happened to be hiding in such a well curated and magical cathedral of modernist delight. Karl or Craig, it slips my memory which host had revealed my now prized possession, or it could have been a perfectly improvised choreography of hospitality nonchalantly, but with warmth and gentleness walked me towards the fixture that would bring my 1930's built apartment to it's Zenith. The rest is history... Karl graciously helped me load my modestly priced adornment into my 2016 Kia Soul. Karl and I briefly discussed our exciting and surprising métiers, and then the two of us, the beautiful intelligent partner and I took off into the beautiful rain brushed mid California landscape heading towards the bay area looking to find more hidden gems! read more

I purchased this amazing Eames style lounge chair in a beautiful brown leather in which I'm currently sitting to write this review. We drove up from San Francisco and Craig was kind enough to put a hold on the chair for me until we arrived. Karl and Craig didn't hesitate to help us load up the chair in the car for the journey back. The space is absolutely amazing! We spent a solid half hour just looking at the fantastic curation of mid-century modern pieces that fill the two showrooms. There's a great balance between your minimal, timeless pieces and your funky statement pieces. In addition, there's a wonderful, multi-level art gallery with active studios occupied by local artists. We were exploring the showrooms and gallery for so long I think they were wondering if we were actually going to leave with the chair lol. I'll definitely be back to purchase more furniture from Janakos & Co. which you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. I would have probably purchased more while I was there if the chair I got didn't take up the entire volume of our car. read more

I pass by this little gem on my daily commute. I've been intrigued since I first saw the store front. Mid-Century is a word that caught my eye! I had a friend exhibiting her art in the adjacent building so I decided to stop after work and check the two places out. Am I so glad I did! Craig, the proprietor is welcoming and knowledgeable. I've been in twice and each time the merchandise is refreshed by new old interesting pieces that scream design. His knowledge is appreciated and while he knows just what these gems go for, his prices are reasonable and just. His inventory is housed in two areas and that makes for a reason to meander across to the other building and see the eclectic art as well. An added bonus! Janakos & Company will stay on my radar. There is a 50's child's bicycle that's in great condition! I passed that one by, yet, I know whoever puts that into their trunk will be really stoked they did! A shopping experience that made my Friday evening journey home a bit more enjoyable after great conversation, a look at some very cool furniture and a mid-century bar stool purchase! An absolutely FABULOUS selection of mid-mod everything. The owner is really nice and friendly. The prices are OBSCENE, but perhaps they need to be to pay the rent on the building. If you don't see what you want in the store, you can be assured the owner's "pickers" can find it for you at a local estate/yard sale. So, its a great place to go if you are trying to furnish your mid century masterpiece home. BUT, if you are an average human, its more like treat it like a museum and enjoy the display. We stopped in this weekend to buy a GORGEOUS floor lamp (Modeline) we had seen on line. We left 2 plus hours later with the lamp and a stunning original painting. The shop is so full of beautiful furniture, lighting, and art that you can't not linger and ogle it all. They are also adjacent to an art studio gallery space that is fun to wander through - so if you go, make an afternoon of it! Craig was extremely helpful with our purchases. He detailed the lamp and made it shine and he was wonderfully knowledgable of the artist who did the painting we bought. I happen to stumble upon this amazing place the other day and was blown away by the quality and prices of the impeccable pieces inside an old barn/warehouse. Craig recently opened shop up here in Sonoma County after years of running a successful store in Burlingame. His collection, sensibility and keen eye for rare and special pieces make him a true artist in his own right. Did I mention he is also opening another location directly next door expanding his offerings? We walked away with a John Stewart Mid-century teak couch and a metal medical cabinet, both of which are unique and conversation pieces in our home. If you are looking for that one piece (or two or three) to make a statement in your home and want top quality pieces that will hold their value for years, then you have to check out this shop! I have meant to write this review of Janakos and Company for a while. I bought a mid century dining table from Craig I saw on 1st Dibs.com. Since I live in New York, I could not see it in person, however, the photos where good. I decided to have it refinished before shipping since it's expensive to have it sent from my apartment, and then to a refinisher in NYC and then back. Craig found someone in his area and sent detailed photos of the table which looked amazing when done. Unfortunately, after the table arrived it gave off a terrible smell that did not fade. Something was not done properly in the refinishing of the wood. Craig couldn't tell because it was finished in a room with a large garage door. In a closed room, the smell was bad. I ended up having to have the table refinished in NYC. Craig stood by his product and did refund me the cost of having the table redone. He wanted to make me happy and he did. The table not only looks great, but whatever was done wrong was corrected and it no longer emitted a bad odor. For those customers buying an antique from afar, this is one dealer you can trust to do the right thing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy something in the future. Gary, NYC read more

The mid century modern showroom is very unique. There's a great variety of furniture pieces that are carefully selected and arranged in a pleasing manner.
