The staff demeaning treatment of women customers is ridiculous, especially treating them as idiots to their face (when my wife has over a decade of firearm experience and the way she was treated). She had to factually correct the counter staff more than once, with proof. At the same time other staff at the counter were talking with male Deputy Sheriff's in Corrections refer to their female Deputies in Macon County as DEI hires, and the only reason they worked their posts was because they needed a warm body to fill the position.Totally uncalled for actions regarding females period! read more

1st time visiting High Caliber and it won't be my last. Came shooting with my son today and had a really positive range experience. Very professional but also very friendly. Gun ranges can be hit or miss with this and I get that safety is priority number one. From being greeted when we walked in all the way down to the range officer everyone was knowledgeable and courteous. The ranges were clean, well lit and everythign just seemed right there. I decided to take a beginner's pistol training class and I am glad I did. I feel so much comfortable with a pistol. It was a 4 hour class. 2 hours was power point presentation and 2 hours gun range time. Justin was a fabulous teacher and We even got to meet the Owner which is always a plus. Everyone should take a training with a firearm to become more prepared and efficient. So if you live in Champaign County or close by. Come on out to High Caliber because you won't be disappointed. read more

It smells like freedom. It sounds like freedom. It feels like freedom. You leave there smelling of freedom. If your ear plugs aren't fully in, you won't hear any freedom for the rest of the day. I haven't pulled a trigger in almost 10 years, and before that, was before I got out of the army in 99. So, I was a tad rusty. I still remember the 4 fundamentals of firing (position, aiming, breath control, trigger squeeze) because they drill that into you in the army. Or at least, I allowed it to be drilled into me (kevin couldn't remember). Shooting my friends 45 was sort of fun. It had been so long, I was like "how do I move the slide forward?". First I had to put 5 bullets onto a paper. yay, I can hit a piece of paper from 10 yards out! Then my buddy had a rifle, so we had to put 5 holes in a piece of paper from like 15 yards out. At least I think what's how far it was. The first pull on the trigger of the rifle I immediately remember the entire experience. It wasn't until that whiff of gunpowder and the spent case flying over my head (left handed shooter), that I was reminded of army days. As we got done shooting, and my guys put their guns away, we walked back out to pay, and I sounded off with "No Brass, No Ammo Drill Sergeant!" and the day was complete. read more

I was not a fan of this range initially. I had some bad experiences the first couple of times with rude staff members, but I have also met some very friendly and helpful staff. The range is okay. It goes to 25 yards, and they have a good selection of guns for rental. You have to buy eye and ear protection since they don't do rentals for those. Based on these factors, I would give them three stars, but their class options bump them up to a four. I took the concealed carry course after buying my first firearm here. The instructor, a retired police sergeant with 30 years of service, was very knowledgable. The class itself was a brutal 16 hours over a weekend due to Illinois laws, but the instructor made this time as enjoyable as it could be. Even with the minimal practice time, I noticed a significant improvement in my marksmanship. You also get two hours of free range time upon completion of the class. High Caliber offers various other educational opportunities, including four levels of pistol classes which end with practice in their simulation room. read more

Very nice indoor range. They have a well designed process for people new to the range to learn the safety rules, etc... Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I took a private lesson and really appreciated trainer Jeff's patience with me as a beginner. He took the time like no one has before to really explain how and why the things he was teaching me would make me more confident handling my gun. I came in anxious and unsure and left excited and looking forward to my next lesson, where I plan to try out some different guns. What a great experience and service to the community! The range personnel that I dealt with was actually a good safety, He was polite and professional. The problem came when I got yelled at for interrupting the range safety after I saw him doing an improper function with my rifle. I corrected him and that should have been the end. It wasn't...the "CEO" came in banged on the glass and told me to come out to the hall, so I did. He then proceeded to raise his voice at me and treat me like I was in basic training. I told him I corrected an improper procedure and all he said was that he couldn't hear what was said through the cameras...okay, that's why you have your range safety...if I were doing something unsafe he would have corrected me. Overall the range is expensive and nothing special. Some of the staff don't know how to treat customers and it shows very well. The funny part about it is that I've spent 10 years in the military, I know that I was in the right and he was in the wrong. My advice to the staff in a non life threatening situation like that is to assess it before you go in all drill sergeant. I will never be going here again nor will I direct anyone to ever shoot there. read more

Not a very friendly place. They wear no name tags so you don't know who is who. I wanted to have new sights put on my handgun, and 2 people told me to bring them and they would install them for me. The sights I had they did not carry. One other gentleman? Told me he would not put them on. He said it was a liability, but if I bought the sights from them they would put them on. i do not understand the logic behind that. At first I thought is was going to be a nice place---but not so much. Would not recommend to anyone. read more

I did my concealed class hear a little over a year ago and was pleased with the instructors that were very helpful. I joined High Caliber and have been to several classes they offer and plan on taking more. I have been around guns my entire life and every class I take reminds me there is always something new to learn. If you carry concealed or just shoot for sport I highly recommend High Caliber. Range officers do make you feel safe and around gun owners you do not know that's a good feeling. read more

I've been patronizing them for a few years now. None of my visits went super bad nor were they an incredible experience either. Just as other reviewers have stated, a mixture of friendly and not friendly staff. The owner happens to be friends with many of my friends, so I had no problem supporting a local business. Until today. I use them as my FFL Dealer, again, trying to support a local business. As you are all aware, we are in the middle of a pandemic. And in "normal times" this would seem like a petty criticism. Nobody was wearing a mask. What's more, there seemed to be zero attempt to wear them. Business was slow when I went in, so maybe they felt it was safe to leave them off? It's a hard habit to get into, I get it! But there were no masks sitting on a counter next to them, or hanging out of their back pocket. It's almost as if they were not wearing masks simply to protest or directed to by management. On top of that, there was no cleaning product visible anywhere (hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, or spray). This is a business where you are supposed to come in and touch and hold the product in a safe environment. The last straw for me was a politically charged meme taped to their front door. Gun culture has always felt toxic to me. Until today, High Caliber was a neutral environment I felt modestly comfortable in. I write this review because I enjoy the sport and mechanics of firearms. I also am a strong supporter of the second amendment. I know there are others like me and want them to know what they are getting into when the patronize High Caliber. read more

RUDE. And unless you're an older white male you will not be treated well. They take safety very seriously which I appreciate, but that's the only good thing I experienced here. Prices are sky high, the range is sub-par, and staff I dealt with was so belittling. Will not be going back. Absolutely horrible place! The staff is extremely rude and treat you like you don't know anything about guns. They stand behind the counter and constantly run their mouths about anyone shooting. They are way overpriced! $30 an hour to share a lane and $20 to rent a gun??? I can go to CI Shooting sports in normal and pay $28 for unlimited range time for 2 people "without being a member" and another $25 for unlimited gun rentals. I recently purchased my first firearm from High Caliber and had a great experience with the facility and the people there. This was also my first visit to a range. The staff I dealt with were very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful and the basic training they provided was excellent. I am not completely new to guns but I wanted to be treated as if I was to make sure that I didn't have any misconceptions about firearm safety and operation. I wasn't surprised to find out that I still had a lot to learn but I was surprised by how excellent the training was! I was able to shoot a few rounds from a few different handguns to help in my purchase decision. I ended up getting a great deal on a used gun and spending some additional time on the range and even got some great tips/advice from the range safety officer at the end of my session. Overall I have had a great/fun experience with this business and would definitely recommend them to anyone. If you are new to firearms or have anxiety about going to a range for the first time, this is a perfect place to start as they cover all of the basics and seem more than happy to answer any questions you have. I expect that I will be going back to High Caliber regularly for a long time to come. read more

I went there 3 times in a month. They have good facility. Competitive price. Clean and good targets. Very good distance to many places in town. However, people there are very rude， hostile to some extent. They will yell at a common customer like treating you as a Navy Seal solder in Devil 's week. Very unhappy to me. They don't put the range rule on their website but I will help them put it here. 1/ No camera 2/ They will tell you that you can bring a friend without FOID but they don't tell you if you want to go to rest room, your friend has to stop shooting and go with you. That is a state law. If you don't know it, you better know it. Or they will yell at you no matter what job you are doing and how old you are. If you don't want to get insulted, please read this. What a good thing to work well with customers is to let them know every rule you have or some state law they might not know. Do it precautiously to prevent bad things to break laws to you and your customers instead of using yelling, deterring, frightening someone. We, customers are paying a lot of money to come, not buying their rudeness. Grumpy old attitude is not allowed. This is a brand new business in town. As a new customer, please ask high caliber carefully before follow them with a bag of gun to the shooting range. read more

The place is very clean and professional, the air cycling is great. However this place is just way too expensive especially now in these economic times. It cost 20$ per person per hour and $30 to share your lane with a friend or a spouse. I mean come on! These guys really hurt the wallet. Plus they don't allow any kind of steel case or steel core ammo which is understandable. However, when you add in the cost of expensive ammo and $20, costs start to get quite ridiculous. They do offer membership that is $300 a year and $500/yr with a spouse or a friend. But that does not make their range free for you. It only gives you a half-off discount, making it $10/hour which puts it in line with other gun ranges around the country. There are several indoor pistol ranges in Bloomington/Normal and surrounding towns and cities that charge between $10-$14 an hour. High Caliber is the only indoor gun range I have ever seen cost $20/hr and $30/hr just to share your lane! To clarify, I have nothing against them and they do have a professional and well kept establishment, but their prices are just plain Scary. read more
