If you were looking for it, they probably have it. Very unassuming from the outside but once you get inside, it's like an alcohol museum. Yeah the shelves are a little dusty, but It is wall to wall bottle of the bottle just about anything and everything you could find of alcohol under one roof. Their front door sign always has me cracking up. I don't drink but came with my husband. The owner here is so funny, my husband told him "she don't even drink," to which the owner replied, "we won't hold that against her." Hahaha. They have many multicultural beverages here that I have only seen out of the country. I used to love Anise, acorn liquor, opha, and some others, and I saw them here. We shopped here for around twenty years or maybe more. Then one day, I was shouted at and ordered out of the store by what I first thought was one of the infamous "idiots and bums" that the owner abhors. Turns out it was an employee. He ordered me to leave, because he said my purse was "too big." It was my usual going-shopping tote bag, the same one I always carried. I left, and ever since then, we have shopped elsewhere. But just a while ago, my husband went to buy something that we normally order from BevMo or pick up at Total wine. He left the store in disgust when he saw that the bottles were covered in dust and the store was, as he put it, filthy. If you don't like my review, tough. Everyone here has the right to their opinion, according to their experience. You better hope a fire doesn't break out while in there, you won't be getting out alive. Aisles without walkways. Aisles filled with more boxes. How are they open? How are they ADA compliant? For a small business this place is packed with the rare and vintage liquor products connoisseurs are looking for. I had a hankering for Linie Aquavit, and sure enough, they had it. The Good: They. Have. Everything. Every kind of liquor one could dream of is there. All the fancy gift sets, novelty bottles, imports, top shelf, exotic, everything. Plastic pints to magnums of champagne. The place is enormous like an airplane hangar of booze. It's much bigger inside than it seems from the outside. They have informative signage on the nature of fake tequila, good wine, and the origins of different alcohols. They stock more mixers than a grocery store and I've only gone looking once for something they didn't have (St. Germain. Thank you, BevMo.) The Bad: Words cannot describe how ghetto this place is. Dirty linoleum flooring, faulty fluorescent lights, creaky, ugly old shelving, dilapidated registers, sullen teenage help, cloudy windows... I could go on almost forever. The signage, although informative, is all handmade. I believe in the value of handmade signs; they can be homey and quaint and legible and even lovely. Mega Liquor's signs are ALL spelled wrong. Badly, laughably WRONG. The names of the alcohols that are SITTING ON THE SHELF RIGHT THERE are spelled wrong. In addition to the little fillip of illiteracy, the signs are also made of ragged chunks of cardboard, written in screaming caps with a magic marker and strung together with packing tape, zipties, and plastic chain. The entire front end is a hastily ghetto-rigged phalanx of directional caution tapes and roping. The "tastings" advertised outside and in the paper are posted everywhere indoors with the capitalized admonishment of NO BUMS!!! This charming legend appears in their every ad, on their every poster, and every three feet inside the building. This does not make me feel confident or welcome, and I'm a 29 year old woman with a job who goes shopping in heels, sober. It makes me feel like the place is a bum magnet- and why shouldn't it be? With an atmosphere like this, bums must feel right at home. It's not welcoming. It's not clean. It's so dirty, I'd rather fish bottles out of a used litterbox. Nothing that comes out of a store like this belongs in my mouth. I've been to places that are kind of country, kind of antique, kind of vintage, even stylishly seedy. Mega Liquor is none of these things. It is every scary cliche of every Watchtower or Chick tract you've ever been handed about the dangers of alcohol. I've only been twice, and both times I've gone early in the morning, when people are normally awake and sober and helpful. Instead, I stand in line behind people buying 40s for breakfast in blackout shades that are sold to them by kids who look 12 (but must be 18) who can't stop texting long enough to make change. If there was a BevMo in Hemet, MLW would go bankrupt tomorrow. Overall: Unprofessional. Dirty. Ugly. Ghetto. Did I say ghetto? GHETTO. Like a corner liquor store run by criminals metastasized into an enormous throbbing tumor of alcoholism. Not a place for a connoisseur, a party-planning individual, or any self-respecting shopper. We didn't even use a quarter of our 5 gallon keg because it wasn't working right. I was unable to exchange it before our party and when I brought it back and asked for a credit for a future keg, he told me no. Happened to be in Hemet this afternoon, were driving by this place, had seen a billboard for it and decided to stop. This is a destination liquor store - especially for this part of the world. I could not think of anything that this place doesn't have: from 7 Star Metaxa, to Centenario Tequilla (four varieties), to every flavored Rum and/or Vodka you can think of, to every beer, to every bourbon, to an enormous selection of wines and to even Louis XIII cognac ($2000/bottle). What shocked us was how reasonable the prices were. We keep a well stocked bar, and generally shop at Costco or Sam's Club; sometimes BevMo, but their prices are always higher. I spoke to Victor yesterday regarding me purchasing 6 bottles of Hibiki 17 Japanese whisky at $399.99 per bottle. He said the online store was 1 per customer but I could drive the HOUR to Hemet and buy all 6. I couldn't make it yesterday so I called this morning just to verify the price and the availability before I headed down there. I get down there and the employee puts all 6 plus a 7th we found on the counter. We asked the employee to price check an item which required her to call the owner. Victor, the owner, tells the employee to sell us 1 at $399.99 and the remaining 6 at $799.99 per bottle. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?? She hands me the phone and he proceeds to tell me," Well, I looked it up online and no one else has it so I'm raising the price." I advised him his store tag and the online store still has it priced at $399.99 ON TOP OF him telling me the price yesterday AND the employee verifying the same price before I drove the hour there. I left purchasing NOTHING. Victor, you picked the wrong one today. Good luck explaining to the ABC how you obtained such large numbers of allocated bottles (Pappys, Hibikis, other "rare" finds). This is the best place to get alcohol in the Hemet Valley by far. Great prices and friendly service. They have pretty much everything you need here and then some.
