I was worried the water would be too cold in August...,it was definitely cold, but once we got in we were fine and didn't even notice it was cold. The hippie dips were so nice once we got to them!! This was one of our favorite things we did on our 18 day trip through Colorado!! We're actually planning to do it again next August!! The staff was amazing'! The pictures they took are hilarious and I will treasure those memories and laughs forever!! Remember to wear some kind of shoes that secure to your feet! My daughter forgot hers but they had river shoes available for her to rent! This place is the go to for all your adventures! We'll be back for sure!!

Brad was our guide and took us to the South Fork of the Rio Grande on the other side of the continental divide. Although it was a little dry this summer, there was enough water to hold fish (even though they were on the smallish side). Brad was extremely patient and helpful, especially with my teenage son. We were able to catch several brown trout and had an incredible day with him in the beautiful mountains!

It was an absolute blast! I have NEVER fly-fished before, and I caught 3 "GOOD" sized fish - 13, 14, and 15 inches. Thomas maxed out with an 18-inch rainbow trout. Jamie was our guide, and he was just the absolute best. He allowed Thomas to do what he does, as he has fly-fished before, while still giving him pointers that helped him get better. Jamie was SUPER patient with me, gave me great pointers, was super informative, and even held my hand as I crossed the creek. I mean . . . c'mon! I got to meet the owners of the land we fished on and they were great--super kind and very genuine folks! I even got to see a MINK cross the trails and took pics of the geese and their goslings in the lake! The views were magnificent. Call ahead, and you get to choose if you want to fish for quantity or quality. We voted quality--hence the bigger fish, but fewer caught. We scheduled the whole thing online with ease, and Jamie called us back after he got off the water with prior clients. Honestly, when we go back again, odds are we will hit Jamie up again, but maybe more as friends, to go fish with us. If you're a newbie or experienced fisherperson, definitely check this place out and ask for Jamie! :)

I have mixed feelings about this company as a Shuttle/A1 Taxi service. While my drivers were…read morefriendly and efficient, the fare was VERY expensive for what it is. For myself and partner to get a pick up from DUR airport to Pagosa Springs, it was $135-one way. We booked it weeks in advance in anticipation of Ubers being scarce. I knew it would be pricey but this seemed like the reliable option. The unfortunate part was two days before our flight into CO, Wilderness Journeys called to let us know there would be a surprise added fee of $15+ (each way) to get to where we were staying. I'm not sure why because it was a Pagosa Springs address--about 5 miles (6min drive) from town center, so I'm guessing they prefer to only drop off at the main hotels, though that wasn't mentioned when I booked the service. This increased our fare to $150 each way. If Wilderness Journeys has other passengers potentially going to the airport at the same time and you're willing to be picked up "up to 45min later," they offer to give you 20% off your fare. I opted for that to save some dough. Unfortunately the day before our trip to the airport, they told us we would have to be picked up earlier (not later) because they were picking up 3 more people. This meant we got to the airport much, much earlier than requested/planned. Another upsetting part is they only gave the 20% discount for part of our trip, not our full fare. It offset part of the hidden fee, I guess--but I still ended up paying nearly $300 for the RT shuttle service for 2. :( * Tip: Ubers from Durango to Pagosa are less than half the price and readily available, per the locals. In hindsight, I recommend ubering from Durango to Pagosa. I'd use that money saved I saved to booked the shuttle due to availability on the way from Pagosa to Durango, as it appears to be harder to reliably get an uber from PS to DUR. I would also not opt to save the $20 to share the shuttle.

We did a return trip back to Pagosa and the airport a week later. The booking process was pretty easy and the drivers were on time and got us to and from our destinations safely. Given the length of the drive and the fact that we were going on very rough Forest Service roads for a portion of the drive, the cost seemed reasonable (especially for 4 or more people) and I was thankful to have this option. We stopped here on our way through colorado. This is a national monument. The ancient people who…read morelived in the area lived high up in the rocks and built structures. The two chimney like rock formations are easily seen from the parking area. To get to the structures you need to go up much higher and then hike. We did not do this. Back when the people lived there the moon would rise in between the two chimney rocks every year and it was a celebration. Now it is only every 18 years this happens that the moon rises in between the two rocks. Very interesting. The visitor center was very nice. They have a very interesting movie to learn about the area.

We spent a week together exploring Durango and the attractions here. One of our favorite experiences was white water rafting with Mountain Waters. The staff was super communicative and helpful. We booked a moderate run with class 1-3 rapids, since we had a big range of ages (my Dad is 77 and we had a party of 10 with ages ranging down to my 10-y-o son). They advised that this would be best for our family, and they were correct. I'd love to come back and do some class 3-4 rapids now that we have had some experience.
