We booked a moderate run with class 1-3 rapids, since we had a big range of ages (my Dad is 77 and we had a party of 10 with ages ranging down to my 10-y-o son). They advised that this would be best for our family, and they were correct. I'd love to come back and do some class 3-4 rapids now that we have had some experience. The kids had an absolute blast sliding on the rafts and floating down the river. They do an excellent job making the trip very memorable for everyone. Emelia is the best river guide ever!!! She took us down in the big 16' raft with 7 of us passengers and navigated the river like a pro. She's super funny (dry humor, great wit and some hilarious group shots!) and very river savvy. We were safe and it was so fun!! We rafted on a day later in the season with the Animas river running about 200cfs--perfect for a group of with children, novices adults and an active senior. We didn't get stuck once and made it through some tight fits without even touching the boulders. "All Net!" we told her :) The Mountain Waters Rafting crew were awesome. We did a family friendly two hour rafting trip with Lilah. Well worth the money! It was very relaxing and fun. Lilah did most of the work and was a very skilled guide. We got to help some and that was fun. She shared some Durango history with us, and we got to go through a few rapids. The day we were there the water was flowing at 2,000 cfs and we did a class III and a couple Is and IIs. Highly recommend for beginners or someone wanting something more relaxing. Mountain waters rafting was lots of fun on our trip to Durango. This was two hours of excitement floating through rapids from what I'd consider mild to medium level excitement. My six year old loved their time on the water and continues to bring up *that time on the raft* every so often. We did the Animas river trip with 5 in our group. 2 adults, a teen and 2 kids 9 and 11. What a great day, fun had by all of us. About 12 years ago I had a traumatic experience in the Arkansas and I have not been able to bring myself to do any rapids until now. Our experience was fantastic! Our guide was very knowledgeable and did a great job not only ensuring our safety but also letting us enjoy the river to its fullest. Hannah was our personal guide. They ensured the boats weren't over crowded for us to avoid getting stuck like other companies, not to name any names that start with C. lol I could sense a healthy rivalry that made it even more enjoyable. I also enjoyed seeing the coworkers interact with each other just having fun. They weren't afraid to have some fun and encourage us to join in which I needed and enjoyed! We have two young children with us, 4 and 6 and I never felt like their safety was compromised. My wife had a freak out moment because she was nervous before we started, but once we got going she felt confident and able to do it thanks to our guide. Our guide Shiloh did a great job of making the trip fun especially for our two teenage boys. They loved his fun ideas. He had some little game ideas that involved them falling in the water (at a safe part of the river). The teenaged loved little silly things like racing the other boats. This is a wonderful organization and a class act. We signed up for an upper Animas river trip in early July. We were already tow days until our trip when we found out there wasn't enough water to run the river. This of course was not their fault. They (especially our guide Jeff) worked hard to help us arrange an alternative trip on the train and the owner himself picked us up in Silverton and brought us back to Durango. Great trip with a family of 5. Kids are 12-18 and all really enjoyed it. Our guide Mick(sp?) was very knowledgeable and added a lot to the 2.5 hour trip down the Animas. He knew the area, recommended places to eat and put everyone the right spot in our raft. Even moved the youngest to the front of the raft so she could have an exciting seat. Mountain Waters Rafting was an amazing experience! We came during "low season" and even tho it's considered low, it's still a blast! Paddle-boats are the way to go! Not too crazy or extreme, and you'll get to have a great experience on the rapids! If you're more adventurous you can get your own kayak and work your way down on your own! But don't worry, the boats with groups of ppl will stay by to help ya out if you need it! Our guide, Marcus, was awesome! He led us through the rapids with ease and confidence. Our guide Jessi was stellar. As inexperienced rafters, he was excellent at directing us when and how to paddle. He swiftly navigated us through rock gardens and calm waters, with great jokes along the way. He was knowledgeable with our questions about the area and made us feel secure the whole time.
