Lead Valley Range - Our claimed camp ground!

Compared to other ranges in the denver area, this one is a gem. I'm on good terms with Glenn, Aron,…read moreand Chris. I am using this range to develop my sons shooting skills and their ability to fight together. I am also using this range to build my son's muzzle awareness as well as their ability to safely operate firearms. When I'm ready for shot guns I would def would use this space. We used this space for our summer adventure this year. We got out there early Friday morning, ate our breakfast as we set up our claimed range, shot all our firearms for about 7hrs, and then closed up the range. After that we claimed our space for camping and rented the grill from Aron. He let us keep the propane tank afterwards. We ate our supper watched an episode of "Maul" and packed all of ourselves into one tent with the dog. The next morning we claimed our range again, did our warm up drills, practiced "out! Cover! In!", malfunctions with a pistol, packed up and headed home to lakewood for brunch. At the end of it, it was $25 for camping, $15 grill rental, $7 for the propane, costing about $52 and a life time of memories. Bring bug spray, the biting flies and red ants are a menace!

Lead Valley also offers a camping area and a shop for members to purchase ammo, targets and gear. Not only do the fine folks at LV focus on safety but their family friendly environment was created to accommodate shooters of all levels. The trap area is laid out like a semicircle so that all shots fall into a spot to make recovery a lot easier. LV is also very member centric, offering sporting clay events, bowling pin league and holding an annual member appreciation picnic filled with demos and competitions (soda can challenge was fun!). Without question I will continue to renew my membership, despite the distance (Deer Trail is a bit of a drive but has great range access).

However it is still a gun club, at the same location which includes gun/ammo/accessories and gear sales (and FFL transfers). The indoor range equipment worked, there's functional restrooms and friendly staff. I've dealt with a few of the staff and cannot remember the first contact name I had, however most recently I dealt with Bill and he's a pretty good guy. He assisted with a gun buy, and one of the high points is that he's knowledgeable with experience as well; but it's nice that you can speak strictly business with him or get off on a random subject, if you're so inclined. Like speaking to an old friend, uncle or mentor.

Even the pistol course did not follow COVID-19 mandates. When I called to cancel my membership I was told by Bill (no mask) that he and his wife had contracted COVID-19 and could no longer get it. He also could drive across town to the west range to cancel my membership because they did wear masks. I did go to the west range and that was true their employees were wearing face coverings, however 2 of their customers were wearing them on their chins.------they teach and preach gun safety but don't believe in science!!!! They did not refund my money so they don't believe in honesty and fairness with their customers------STAY AWAY----DANGEROUS BUSINESS

History belongs to all of us. Military history belongs to all of us. Patriotism belongs to all of us. A place that teaches about the horrors of war should be especially careful not to turn division, dehumanization, and political hatred into entertainment. I paid $200 for admission for myself and nine family members to celebrate my son's 13th birthday and support his interest in military history. What I got instead was one of the most divisive experiences I have ever had at a historical site. I understood that, by the nature of this venue, I would be surrounded by people whose political beliefs and voting preferences might be very different from mine. I expected that and had no problem with it. What I did not expect was a two-hour tour led by three men who turned military history into a platform for political antagonism. The tour began with the guides essentially showing the door to anyone who might be considered "woke," followed by comments such as, "Any Democrats here are free to try out the land mine." This was followed by a gimmicky and deeply inappropriate fake drop of one of the seven unopened cans of gas associated with the mass killing of millions of people during WWII. There is a difference between studying the propaganda, hatred, and dehumanization that allow people to rationalize cruelty during war, and actively reproducing that same "us versus them" mentality. The concepts of othering, dehumanization, and moral disengagement are central to understanding how people come to view others as lesser or undeserving of empathy. Hearing political opponents casually treated as targets or punchlines in a place dedicated to the history of war was deeply disturbing. What bothered me was not that these guides were conservative or that they expressed opinions different from mine. It was the contempt and hostility toward an entire group of Americans, and the assumption that everyone visiting should share it. I brought my son and our family because we wanted to learn about history. Unfortunately, the strongest lesson we left with was how easily the very "us versus them" thinking that contributes to violence can be reproduced in the present.

This is a unique experience that you will not find anywhere else, and if you do find something similar, it will hardly compare to this extensive collection. Spanning from the civil war to WW1/WW2, there are a TON of things to see. Highly, highly recommend. Staff members are all friendly and extremely knowledgeable. My only complaint is that since it is strictly a guided tour, it can go by quick and you may miss a lot, because there is a LOT to see. They offer a variety of other activities, but I only went for the museum tour. Took many photos but I attached a few.
