The post was concerning someone open carrying a long rifle in the State of South Carolina, a state she (Karen) doesn't reside in, but felt the need to express her blunt opinion anyways. She commented on the post and said, "it was stupid, provocative and unnecessary." Just wondering how an individual exercising his right to openly carry a long gun, which is perfectly legal in South Carolina are the things you said? Are you saying exercising a right is "stupid, provocative and unnecessary"? It clearly states in the NRA ethics guide... RESPECTING OTHERS a. Trainers respect the rights of others to hold values, attitudes, and opinions that differ from their own But clearly, Karen was on another path that day. There were many comments and none of them showed respect towards one exercising their legal right to openly carry his long gun. The old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all was thrown out the window when Karen showed up to the post. Will also be filing a formal complaint with the NRA on her rude attitude. Hopefully Karen can learn from this mistake and will help her become a better advocate for gun rights in the future.

Safety first and always, learning how to load the magazines, how to line up the front and rear sights - I mean..who knew you were supposed to keep both eyes open when aiming a gun? We didnt! This is just some of the information she taught us and it was all invaluable. Then the last part of the class was spent on the gun range, again...another great part of the day, remembering safey while loading the guns, shooting targets and having fun. I paid inside,…read morewent to the range and realized i have to join a waitlist with a waiting time of "I don't know". Also, i bought a target because they said i need one, and ended up not using it because people left their targets behind, and plenty of targets (I mean plenty). So only bring one if you want a fresh target, because they are used even though they are left behind. On a quiet day, you won't need to buy one I bet. It's frustrating but it's not a deal breaker. Just wish they had better communication skills and management. Update: I asked the wait time again, and the man said "2 hours". I went inside to get my refund and leave. Disappointing. I just got a new gun. My rating is now a 2.

About the NRA membership; when we lost our location norh of Golden we were able to purchase the new range at Watkins. It was made possible by a loan from the NRA and the NRA membership rule followed that. The location was a mess and it took many many work partys to clean it up. Since then a lot has been added to the amenities and all in all it's one of the best ranges within reasonable distance from the metro area. There Are a few other clubs that you can join in the area that have no better amenities and higher membership fees. I rarely use the shotgun facilities but it's always a good experience. I guess I could be written off as one of the snooty old guard but I'm not and I've never seen anyone treated poorly by other members.

My biggest complaint is that I have maintained a membership to teach my kids how to shoot. The staff is in caring and in hospital to teaching kids. With no consideration for one family to use a single lane with one person shooting at a time ... on a mostly vacant range. Even if those who are not shooting are waiting in a vehicle. The club has mismanaged members funds for years with a lot going to subsidize skeet and trap tournaments for non members. For the rifle/pistol range there are no provisions for members to practice multiple targets or train for IDPA/action pistol or 3 gun competitions. The range is often sporadically closed making it difficult at times to use the range. When competitions are hosted they call cease fires every 5-10 minutes. For 5 -10 minutes making it extremely difficult for others to use the range. At other times the member who happens to be the RO while actively shooting will go for 45minutes plus before calling a cease fire. Resulting in others waiting to setup/clean up for extended periods. This pertains to the ENTIRE range for cease fires. The Skeet and trap ranges are open to the public, but members using primarily the rifle range have to subsidize it. The club does not offer any classes or promote or host any NRA classes or events. The club is failing in promoting marksmen-ship or outreach to grow the shooting community. I'll be investing my money and time elsewhere and regret wasting thousands of dollars on membership dues.

The staff Donny, Penny, and the old owner were always friendly, knowledgeable, and professional -- they made the place feel welcoming and trustworthy. Since the shop has changed ownership, things just aren't the same. The newer staff seems very inexperienced and not nearly as helpful. Customer service has definitely slipped, and the overall atmosphere feels less professional and less polished than it used to. On top of that, ammo prices are noticeably higher than what you'll find at big‑box stores, which makes it harder to justify shopping local. I used to rate Ironhorse a solid 5, but at this point it's closer to a 1. There is room for improvement, and I'd love to see the shop get back to the level of service and professionalism it once had.
