I contacted to ask about being a foster for a post I found on Facebook, Anouk Eliza Roman wrote back and she was just terrible. I asked if fostering could lead to adoption and she informed me that people who live in Texas will not be approved. The dogs in question are in Texas, so I didn't understand what her problem was. She also stated that if a foster is not found they will go to the shelter, no transport just going to the shelter. So because I asked if fostering could lead to adoption, she said I would not qualify to foster, and taking them to the shelter is better? She was rude and then made statement that really had me question her mental well being. If this person is the one behind this so called rescue stay away. read more

I didn't appreciate the sound of the email I received from someone at High Plains P.A.W.s, I can't tell you who that was since they didn't sign it even with the High Plains name. I had multiple people read it to make sure I wasn't over reacting. If this is the way they are going to talk to people who would like to adopt their animals, why would anyone want to give them money? They are doing a disservice to the animals they are saving. read more

I submitted an application, pictures, videos and signed all the paperwork necessary to adopt one of their dogs. After a week and a half of no contact, I reached out & was told it was the decision of the foster family to choose what applicant the dog goes to. After speaking to someone a few times over Facebook messenger, it was clear this person was putting the accountability on the foster family not the organization for communicating who the foster family picks. I then called, left a message & was advised through Facebook messenger that the same person who checks the voicemails also responds on Facebook messenger. This person then proceeds to say "No expected time for a decision" "When I hear back I'll let you know. At this point I am guessing she's going with the other app or she would have been in touch" To which I responded: "It's frustrating that there's no contact from the foster family even if they've chosen another family. This reflects badly on your organization" I was responded to with: "Well at this point even if there was I would say it's not going to work" "Everyone is volunteers and busy" In other words, because I held the organization accountable for poor communication, I was told that it "wasn't going to work". Meaning because my answer wasn't liked, I'm no longer eligible for adopting the dog I'd applied for and then taking it a step further blaming the volunteers for being "busy". No apology, no accountability. Then they wonder why people go to breeders, pet stores & private rehoming situations. I will NEVER deal with this organization ever again & I will continue to give this "organization" poor reviews every opportunity I get. read more

SHOP, DON'T ADOPT from High Plains Paw! Highly unprofessional, screaming at you on the phone, texting with unprofessional language, name calling and accusing you of not caring for animals. A sham of a business that gives adopting animals a very bad name and should be ashamed of themselves. This "organization" is seedy to say the least and should not be in business. Terrible rescue, never received shot records though requested many times. Poor dog came with an infected incision that required surgery. I recommend that everyone stay away from this rescue. they are a farce. Never responded back after I got my dog to either email or phone calls. Worked with rescues my whole life and I hate to bad mouth anyone helping dogs but these people should be shut down. My vet said whoever spayed my dog was a butcher. read more

Sybil does not want to adopt HER pets out. HPP makes you fill out a ridiculous 13 page adoption application and won't call you back. I called 2 or 3 times to check the status of my adoption and nothing was done, no followup. No dog meetings. Nothing. No one will ever be as good of a dog owner as Sybil, so don't even try! This business seems to be a scam. They get free dogs from city pounds in Texas. Then sell them for a $200 "adoption fee". They claim that the dogs have been found, or are from hoarding situations. But they are actually from a free dog pound. SCAM!!!! read more

This "rescue" is very poorly run. The lady operating this rescue is incredibly unprofessional and extremely rude. I fostered a dog from her and in the profile for this dog stated she was great with all dogs of all shapes and sizes and ages. Stated this dog was housebroken also. It also stated she was food aggressive. The dog was a bulldog "fusion" and in all honesty the dog was a very sweet girl with a good personality.It was also stated she was "stubborn and listened if she wanted to". However after being in our home a few weeks around our 4 dogs (3 small young dogs and 1 very young large breed dog) certain issues started showing in her personality. First: she started having accidents in the house in the middle of the night. I also noticed she was not only afraid to go outside when it was dark, she was terrified...once I finally could get her outside she would roll onto her back and actually pee'd on herself she was so scared to go out in the dark. When I asked the rescue about this I was told "Yes she had that here too. I had to feed her early so she would go out." Well...that didn't exactly fix the issue. So I worked with her on her fear. I would put a leash on her, grab a flashlight and go with her. It took about a week until she finally came to understand she wasn't going to be left outside in the dark all night, and her middle of the night accidents ceased. This dog also had a few issues of growling at my husband for no reason. When I asked the rescue if this dog had a history of abuse, specifically by a man..her reply was "No, she never had an issue with ---- and I growl at him all the time. Ha hahaha. " Personally I don't see how this is something to joke about. And anybody who understands body language and is around this dog more than a day will see she was abused by somebody. If she saw us pick up a fly swatter to swat a fly she would cower in fear. Her "stubbornness" was the least of her "issues". In fact, that "stubbornness" only showed when she was afraid to go outside at night. Otherwise she listens very well. The day we picked this dog up it was very obvious she had had a litter of puppies because she was still producing milk. Yet when we asked the rescue said it was just swelling from her spay surgery she had recently. (okaaaay????) Also this dog had 2 healing wounds, 1 on her back shoulder, 1 on her jowl, when I asked what happened she stated that this dog had been in a dog fight but was not the aggressor. However the profile stated she was good with all dogs and never had an issue. For the short time we had this dog in our care, she was good with our other dogs and even our cats. Until she wasn't, when she attacked our 10 lb female dog for known reason. Our small dog ended up losing an eye. I had to pry the dogs mouth open before she would release our dog. When I contacted the rescue to return the dog immediately due to this attack, the rescue said okay, but was not happy I was returning her and stated "for all you know the little dog could have started it and she protected herself". (inferring I don't know the personalities of my own dogs). She then tried to tell me it had to be food related because the dog has never had issues before with other dogs. Yet she seemed to forget she in fact did tell us this dog had been in a fight before we got her. This rescue then went on to contact me via private messenger and rage at me for an hour over how I handled this situation. Claiming they had no room for the return of this dog, and yet days later this same rescue is picking up 3 more dogs. This rescue seems to enjoy public shaming the people who return their foster dogs( this person does it on her personal page so as not to make her "rescue" page look bad). This rescue rarely posts positive adoptions yet is always posting about "saving" more dogs. I can not in good faith recommend this "rescue" to anyone wanting to foster for them. As far as adopting from them...that's a risk you have to make on your own. But fostering with this "rescue" , as unprofessional as she is, is just putting yourself in a no win situation for you and the dog you want to help. It's "rescues" like this that give ethical shelters and rescues a bad name. "Rescues" like this is why people choose to go to breeders. Please please please read all these reviews on this place before supporting them. read more

In Feb. 2020 we took on 3 bottle fed puppies (approximately 5 weeks old at the time). To pick up the puppies from the Director/President, Sybil Prosser, we waited 4 hours past the agreed upon meet up time. Once we had the puppies we purchased lots of items for them, happily. March 2020, one of the puppies (Deja) ended up with some health issues and barely lived. We spent a lot of time at the vet's office and racked up $1300 in vet bills (even after the vet's office generous discount). The rescue posted fundraisers on facebook and collected at least $550 in donations. March 2021, we still have one of the puppies (now dog) and have paid for food and other expenses including her spay out of pocket. We and the vet have yet to see a single dollar towards these costs. Although we have spoken numerous times with the Director/President she has been disrespectful, unprofessional, and unwilling to address the situation every time. read more

My husband and I lost our little dog to cancer. We were devastated. I spotted a picture of a terrified pregnant dog that had just been rescued by High Plains PAW. I filled out a foster application and I was contacted by Sybil. She explained that she needed to do a FaceTime interview which we did. She was incredibly thorough. Even though it was a desperate situation, considering the momma dog was going to whelp any minute the rescue was not just going to hand her off to just anyone. Some people may find this invasive, but I appreciated it, it showed that the rescue cares where the animals go and they want to make sure that it is a safe foster environment. They called all my references, called my vet and did all the background checks. They reached out and let me know that I was selected to foster Ginger and her puppies. It was a wonderful experience. When the pups were old enough, they came and chpped them, photographed them, got their shots done. Put them on the website and they were all adopted by the most incredible families. I was lucky enough to be given the chance to adopt the mum, Ginger and one little puppy. We have since helped with other fosters and some transports. High Plains PAWS is a wonderful rescue. Yes, they are extremely thoughtful when placing pets, yes there is a lot of paperwork and yes they sometimes say no, but everything they do is what is best for the pets, not the adopters. If you realize that you may not be the best home for your first choice be patient, they will help you find your forever best friend. read more

Rescued a dog from this establishment and within 24 hours the rescued dog aggressively attacked our current dog and also attacked our cats. Not only was the communication with the owner of this rescue EXTREMELY poor...there was no consideration for our time and efforts to care for said dog who was a danger in our home. They made no efforts to retrieve the dog, and when it came to meeting up to exchange the dog they were over 1 hr late and no communication and said their time was more important than our time we took to return the dog and go out of our way to return it, then only to be not refunded the adoption fees. Was told the dog was tested with dogs and cats and was submissive, very obvious he was not as he was very aggressive toward them non stop.
