I was in JeffCity for business so of course I had to find a comfy coffee shop! High Rise is more than coffee. They have a full food menu consisting of Jambalaya, chicken tenders, fresh baked goods and other comforting foods. I ordered the seasonal special which was a hot, strawberry matcha w/ oat milk. It was soooo good! My counterpart ordered the hot cocoa and said it was rich tasting! Total was $11. Our drinks came in to go cups so no photos (sorry). I was there yesterday 6-12-2025. I was in line with my wife; several other people behind me in line. I ordered, paid for the coffees and also thought it would be nice to pay for the person behind me. Everybody behind me got their coffee and sandwiches. I asked the not so bright girl behind the counter where my coffees were. She didn't care, not even an apology. The service is really poor there. Holy cow wow!!! I had to drive to Jefferson City today for work and found High Rise Bakery since it was very close to the Capitol building, (just 4 min walking) and I was starving. I was not expecting it to be as amazing as it was!! IT WAS SO GOOD AHHH. I randomly picked the chicken corn chowder which was the soup of the day (cup for $4). I was expecting Campbell soup level quality --but WOW. It was so so good!!! The soup was darn luxurious. It was creamy and flavorful, with slices of bacon on top and the perfect amount of chicken, cheddar, corn, carrots and potatoes. I know I sound like a crazy person since this is not a very good descriptor and I'm just rattling off the name. But whatever they put in it was incredible. I tried to convince people on the side walk to go in to High Rise because it was just that good. I actually ended up going back to get a second cup of soup for takeout to go. I wish High Rise Bakery was closer to Saint Louis!!! And not 2 hours away! I also had what I believe was a strawberry creme strudel which was also a great texture!!! So yummy. The food and service is top tier! My girlfriend and I have been coming here consistently for almost 3 years now... And they decided to raise the prices astronomically! Not just a small percentage increase, but on some items $2. For example, the cinnamon rolls went from $5 to $7 in just one night. Was excited to try this new coffee shop I added to my list about 6 months ago. There is a small menu, but they do it very well. I got the breakfast sandwich and hubs got the chorizo burrito. Both were delicious, and the chorizo was cooked really well and was not greasy! My fav is a Peppermint Mocha at Christmas. Theirs has dark chocolate, marshmallows and crushed peppermints on top.i live the way they did the inside. The original brick, plywood floors and loft for extra seating were great ideas. Good, hip spot in the downtown Jeff City area with great coffee, good breakfast options, and a nice patio to take everything in. We were heading out for a day on the nearby Katy Trail and while breakfast important, coffee might trump it on days like these. Fortunately they had a little taste of home (Messenger Coffee from KC) and the Ethiopian was fantastic. I was going for a vegetarian breakfast and the menu only had avocado toast which was good. It might've had a little too much going on for me (beyond the avocado it also included eggs, cucumbers, beet hummus, and arugula) but overall was good. They were also celebrating Christmas in July for some reason, which meant a decorated apple strudel to cap off the meal -- it was fantastic. The vibe on the patio on a nice summer morning is tough to top, with people flowing in and out, and a nice stretch of downtown to take in. Fun spot that I'd recommend! read more

Top notch bakery/cafe in the heart of downtown Jeff City. They serve Messenger Coffee so they can't go wrong. I was impressed with the layout, but even though this was recommended as a coffee shop, it is more cafe than coffee shop. The service was spot on. Several people were there at the counter to balance out the flow of people coming in and ordering. The only bad thing to say about this place is the capital hill prices. The prices keep with the motif as the Cafe is called "High Rise," and is located on "High," street, so the prices are high. They had a burrito for $16 and the same price for their breakfast sandwich that was on a croissant. My husband and I split that, and we were quite filled with eating that and having a fruit Danish on the side. He loved his blackberry Danish. I ordered the apple Danish, but what was supposed to be an apple Danish had strawberries instead, so maybe an extra surprise. The Danish was very tasty and with the perfect amount of crisp. The service was prompt and accommodating. You order at the counter, and if it's take out, you wait by the counter, or if it's dine in, they bring you your food. They even bring your food anywhere outside if you're out there. There's plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. It's a cafe-type vibe. The food was delicious. I originally was just going to get the matcha latte, but then I saw avocado toast with a side, and since it comes with prosciutto and I don't eat red meat, I asked if I can have smoked salmon instead, and they said yes! Ran in for a quick coffee to go and tried the campfire latte and a Greek salad from their refrigerated section. The latte was like a fall bonfire in a cup, with a delicious marshmallow at the bottom. The refrigerator had several prepackaged foods- oats, chicken salad, salads, and sandwiches that all looked good. The Greek salad was good, but the toppings to spinach ratio wasn't the best. The employees were super friendly and bubbly. The space was clean, with several seating options, including a nice large patio. I was driving past Jeff City on my way home one Sunday, and since I particularly like bougie brunch places, this place seemed like the perfect spot. Service is order at the counter, which is fine. There is seating inside and outside, but since it was a beautiful day outside, I ate outside. Since it was a Sunday, there was no people watching to be had, but I'd imagine that on any other day, it'd be a good spot for that. As far as the food and drinks, it was fine. Better than a random chain restaurant, but not necessarily best place ever status. Loved it so much we went 2 days in a row! In town for work and looking for something other than hotel breakfast, this is the place to go! As a group we tried many things on the menu. We got yogurt /fruit parfaits to go which were delicious, the croque madam was delicious and big enough I could have shared but instead I save the other half for lunch. My veggie loving co worker ordered the veggie quiche and couldn't stop raving about it. Muffins were had and d as was the meat and cheese pastry. My wife and I recently hosted an informal next morning post- wedding gathering at High Rise Bakery early Sunday and I can recommend without reservation. We are not from the area, so all arrangements were made remotely by phone several months in advanced (not required, I'm sure). Our contact was Kevin the manager who was consistent with communication, returning phone calls, and describing possibilities clearly. We ordered several trays of bakery items for our guests, and though I was worried they might be forgotten, they were ready to go (months after arranging) and really, really tasty....I mean excellent... flakey, not too sweet, well made delights. The upfront staff was efficient and cheerful, plying guests with coffees as they entered, and directing them to the second floor loft where we rallied. The venue itself is hip with the quintessential coffee chic vibe. Large gatherings likely would not be practical, but it met our needs for 30 guests or so, who came in shifts before departing town after visiting for the wedding. And don't feel like you have to arrange a party to visit High Rise, it is a great place to grab a cuppa' and scroll the internet on your own too. Thanks High Rise, you did great. read more

I stopped in to this new spot in downtown JC for a quick espresso. Which was very tasty. After speaking with the owner, they will have a rotating menu of hot food, while also serving fresh bakery items. It was opening weekend. They are still working out some of the kinks but everything was great! The owner was moving back and forth, interacting with patrons. The kitchen staff were upbeat and working very hard to be efficient. I really enjoyed the bar seating that is right on the kitchen! It's like being at a chef's table. Since I didn't have any food I listened to the responses around me. Two of the dishes seemed to be preferred, the brunch tacos, and biscuits and gravy. They both looked and smelled fantastic! The girl at the counter was rude when we ordered and they were out of an item I asked for, when asked what other options were available she was annoyed and even more so when asked to repeat the last couple items bc she began talking so quietly or mumbling that we couldn't hear her, gave no information about seating vs waiting for our food to be ready just rudely gave my daughter our number and said there's your number. Very limited menu, got the basic breakfast but they were out of potatoes, asked for my eggs over medium and got barley over easy, whites weren't cooked all the way and the yokes were broke all over my plate and no condiments, salt or pepper were made available.
