So I needed some work done and had no reservation to call Holy City, however I found out Sean was no longer with the company. Chris the owner, came and I walked the house and told him what I wanted done, and I got a quote for the work which I accepted with this exception. One part of the quote, as our conversation, was to replace 5 slats of wood and repaint the complete exterior of my office-3 sides. When I got the estimate this is what it said:"Back side of house a section of wood siding that needs about 4.5-5 rows from the bottom replaced, primed and painted." Labor: $1,500.00 Materials: TBD. So I immediately reached out to the office to clarify as this sounded like it was just 1 wall for $1500?. If you see my text it states unequivocally that I wanted the entire exterior of the office painted. I didn't get a response. So when they contacted me they were ready to start I asked once again about this and Chris stated to me (see his text) to paint the whole back section and I said "good perfect". So we start the job, and I can't tell you the hassle I went through, from a terrible paint job, to dumping paint into my bushes and on all over my hoses. They did come back and paint the poorly painted areas but still he missed some spots. At one point I told the guy to make sure he painted the back of the chimney he said he had finished with 1 coat but really didn't paint the back. Because I have a drone and took pictures to prove he had not. Other issues, a side door was to be replaced with PVC and part of it was redone with pine. They fixed it. An Andersen door was put on the front. He left as complete but the door didn't lock and the left top side was out of kilter with the right. The guy came back and did an ok job in fixing it but it was the principle. He was also supposed to caulk and paint the door and sidelights and did not. The real problem however was over the painting of my office. I had made clear what my expectation was but they painted the 3 walls but not any trim. When I contacted Chris he texted he did me a favor that he painted the 3 sides but said I would have to pay another $450 to paint the trim. I just paid him and felt that I tried to avoid this becoming an issue before the job started. It was like he figured as long as he got the job he would just blow me off later. So I will never ever recommend this company ever again. It's too bad because they used to be good but I can see why Sean V left.

This is was a big project to remove a wall to open up our downstairs, completely renovate the kitchen, pull up and install new floors, and paint the entire house. The project finished exactly on time. The price was reasonable. This was a once in a lifetime reno, and we could not be more happy with the quality of the work, the end result, and the overall experience. We use our kitchen every single day (all day!), and it is functional and beautiful. There is nothing I would change about it. All parties involved should be recognized, from design services to project management and to each of the contractors: Cabinet guys, countertop guys, floor installers, painting team. All did really quality work. I haven't hung up pictures yet because it's so nice having beautifully painted walls!! It's worth pointing out that we could not afford to vacate our home while this was going on, so we (my husband, me, our 5 year old son, and 12 year old dog!) lived in the house for 5 weeks without a kitchen, floors, etc. I know our living there and needing some place to sleep, etc. had to be factored in to the overall organization and scheduling, and I'm sure it made the project more complicated. This didn't seem to faze anyone! This is also why we appreciate that the project finished exactly on schedule. Thank you Jack, Jackie, Gina and the entire team!!

He was also very professional, punctual, and completed the project by the promised timeline. Since the project has been completed, we have been very happy with the shower. It looks fantastic and is draining correctly (which is what we previously had problems with). After having so many problems with a previous contractor we were so lucky to find Victor! Starting with prompt return of my initial call, Michael Kelley worked with me helping me to understand what was needed, patiently answering questions and helping me choose the right type of roofing for my house. He always answered my phone calls, which I appreciated and valued such good customer service. The install was scheduled, and the crew showed up at 6:30am that day. They draped and covered vulnerable areas and worked all day removing the old shingles and placing the new roof. Overseeing the progress at the jobsite was Adam Cobb. He came to me a couple of times to update me on how things were going and see if I had any questions. When the job was completed the next day, he let me know they were done. That is when I saw that my yard, porch, decks, flower beds and driveway were left in even better shape than they started with. So, there you have it. The company caused $2133 in HVAC damages that three representatives refused to cover…read more Representatives claimed the damages were not their responsibility because of their contract. The exact verbiage from the contract is, "The Contractor is not liable for damage to hidden water, electrical, gas, and/or HVAC lines." However, in the photo sent of the damage, the HVAC line is clearly visible. When we pointed out that the line was clearly visible, they claimed they were still not responsible and would cover just $250 of the $2133, but only if we removed the 1-star Google review we had just left. After several attempts to get in touch with the contact on the contract and the business owner, we got no response.

I hired Canter Construction in September of 2023 to build a 1st floor bedroom and screened-in porch…read moreaddition to my home. The project manager estimated that it would take 4-5 months to complete, yet the project was finally completed and signed-off by the City in August, 2024. Here are some of the many issues that I experienced: QUALITY OF WORK: The City of Charleston failed the project seven times on various inspections: -Slab Inspection (2X) -Mechanical Rough-in -Electrical Rough-in -Electrical Final -Mechanical Final (2X) With the exception of the plumbing and tile work, subcontractors were frequently called back to correct issues with their work. This was especially true of the HVAC, electrical and carpenter trades. HVAC: While the contract called for the addition to have its own HVAC system, neither Canter, nor their recommended engineer, Michael Hance, PE, LLC (who drew-up the plans), made provisions for placement of the HVAC system in the addition. Planning for HVAC only started once the slab was poured and a considerable portion of the framing was completed. The result: I had to give up significant storage space in my garage and agree to lower the ceiling in my new bath addition 12 inches to accommodate the HVAC system and associated ductwork (a total of 209 cubic feet). In the end, the lack of proper planning of the HVAC system meant that the "addition" to my home became an unplanned "subtraction" as well (see photo). Had I known up front that I'd be giving up space for the HVAC system, I would have made alternative plans. When I realized the issue, I asked Canter for an adjustment in price as I gave up space for the HVAC equipment. Canter ignored my request. When the project was nearing completion, I again asked for an adjustment. Canter refused stating "Construction always has areas where things do not go 100% according to the plans and we must pivot." However, this particular "pivot" was caused by their failure to plan for the installation of HVAC system; a critical item required for any living space. ELECTRICAL: -The electrician did not follow the electrical plan; Outdoor lighting and the screened-in porch switches are located several rooms away in the new bedroom addition. -Exposed hot wires were recently found in the bedroom electrical box (see photo). FOUNDATION: The foundation was not built to plan. The contract specifically called for a CMU Stem Wall foundation for $7,200. Canter substituted a "monolithic pour" in place of the CMU Stem Wall without notifying me or seeking my approval of the change in scope. REMOVAL OF PERSONAL PROPERTY FROM MY HOME: A subcontractor was seen on video searching through my garage where he had no reason to be nor permission. He later emptied the contents of my recycle bin into my trash bin and took the recycle bin with him when he left. After sharing video footage of the act and making several requests, the recycling bin was returned days later.

We hired Jonah to do renovations on our rental property. He appeared to be very confident,…read moreinterested in doing what would be a relatively small job (a result of minor smoke damage) even while he boasted of having been approached about doing a television show and building another construction business. We needed to have the renovations done before the rental season began (late March) and agreed that, after approving the project, we would fly over to approve the work before we wrapped up. Knowing we were coming in town to further prepare the space for the season, he indicated in late March that most of the work had been done and gave the okay for our travel. In fact, I arrived three days before I was to have renters in, prepared for only a deep cleaning, and ***90%*** of the work had not been done. The place was a COMPLETE mess and, in haste, Canter Construction rushed and did a sub-optimal job and not what we agreed. My mom and I, along with my one-year-old daughter, had plans to move furniture (from storage) back in and re-arrange the space in a period of 36 hours. This on the advice of Jonah himself, who had indicated the project was near completion. We ended up paying the super-nice guys who worked for the moving company to come back one day later to help us rearrange furniture and hang pictures because Jonah pushed it to the last minute and was still not done. We were absolutely not satisfied with the work---he hung a television on the wrong wall (after clear instructions to do otherwise) and in haste re-purposed an old bathroom door to not-fit a new pocket door, leaving a 2-inch gap at the bottom that he tried to justify. The single only reason he gets two stars is because Pete, his business partner came to resolve these issues when Jonah himself was too "put out" by being held accountable for wrongdoing. Jonah was angry and flustered and too busy---communication with him became confrontational. But Pete took good care of the problems and remedied the issues. I held onto all texts and emails, given our circumstance, and would not work with him again.

Most importantly, they have been diligent in working to clear the list. Working with our team from Salt Marsh could not have gone better. They are good at what they do, professional and well managed!
