I found myself in over my head trying to repair some vinyl plank flooring, so I reached out to a few companies for help. Tobby from Higher Level responded quickly and came out to give me a quote right away. He was very transparent about what was needed to do the job properly and explained why cutting corners would cause problems down the road. He made me feel confident in his skills and never pressured me to make a decision on the spot. Once I decided to move forward, Tobby let me know he could come out that same day. A few hours later, his brother arrived to start the job, and Tobby joined him later to finish it. They worked late into the evening and even offered to return the next day if we needed to rest, but since we were going out of town, I asked if they could finish that night. They had no problem accommodating us and stayed to complete the work. Both of them worked hard the entire time, but they were also careful to do the job right. Very quick to communicate and quote. Very pricey but what can you do when it is an emergency and in a remote part of the desert? Initial quote included "repairing door" and insulation but since the door required replacing they charged an additional $1100 for the door and frame. Then they claimed they threw in insulation for free when I pressed them on door, even though that was in initial quote. A day after the door installation, tenant reported it wasn't closing right. When I gave them a hard time about it, they whined that I was disrespecting them. I didn't curse or call names, I simply demanded that for what they charged I deserved a working door. These guys then wanted $600 to go out and look at a door they had installed the day before. When I refused to pay that, Toby claimed to have to go out of town and would do it when he returned in about a week. Never heard from him again. Tenant sent me the attached pictures so I ended up getting a different handyman to go out and fix the mistakes made by this company. Only thing saving them from a one star was the fact that dry wall work and paint was done quite well. Amusing additional note: There was some vinyl tile flooring that needed replacing. About 150 sqft. Since they were there anyway I had them give me a quote. These guys wanted $5800 to replace and match to existing. I laughed out loud and got two other quotes under $600 plus materials (about $350). Work was done in a day and for much less drama. read more

I always love when I have the opportunity to support a local family business while also getting excellent craftsmanship and value for money. Tobby and his family take pride in their work, are personable, communicative, and work hard to achieve or beat the time estimates given. They were able to handle a variety of requests and repairs from painting to plumbing to security and electrical. I would definitely work with them again. HLC saved the day! Would you believe that for over a year, my elderly mother was using a kitchen that was partially renovated? A different handyman took advantage of her sweet patience, took her money and ran, leaving her with a project half done. After looking high and low for someone to install a mantle on to a brick fireplace, they were the only one who responded to my request. A bit pricey, but they can afford to be bc obviously, they were the only ones willing to do the project. However, they were upfront on their pricing. $600 for a day. They said they normally don't do such small projects but we're willing to do it at a price for half day. It only took him a little over an hour. His correspondence was quick and clear. In my experience, higher-level handyman services do their job and do it right. And what I mean is, they transformed my crappy home, into one which is worthy enough to land a spot in Architectural Digest. Before I met them, I reached out to several handymen until one took up on my home project. Let's say this anon other handyman is named "Malek". Malek promised me a wonderful, immaculate window frame job which I would be proud of. It was a disaster from start to finish. I left him to do his job, and I came home to a window frame which looked as if it was out of a horror movie. (Look at the before picture for reference) Then I decided it was best to find one who actually knew what they were doing. That is where higher-level handyman services stepped into the picture. I met them, they walked me through the process of what they were doing and if I had any concern they were more than willing to discuss it with me. Easily from one simple job, it progressed into giving my whole house to the "higher-level services" treatment they provide. Keep in mind, this whole journey started from an experience with a real scam artist who was more than willing to take me to court over the money I spent as they thought in their own eyes that they did a "good job". In regards to other reviews, people can nitpick about any little thing and let those nitpicks take away any credibility from quality upstanding businesses. Ratings can destroy a business, and necessarily it can allow for "scam"-artist handymen to come to surface. And in this case, I stand by on the statement that "[they] do their job and do it right". Not about minor details which shouldn't be the reason you sink a business. Give some faith and wait a little rather than allowing a "scam" handyman take the first jab at your home project if it's about promptness. I called Higher Level Handyman last minute when I need my refrigerator moved. Toby and Juan we able to come the very next day. We're extremely careful when moving. Even took the extra steps of removing the handles when the fit was close. And then when that didn't work they removed my front door to make completely sure nothing got scratched. Estimate was to tap into an outdoor outlet and extend underground about 30' to create a new outlet at corner of property. Quoted $3200 on the spot, without actually itemizing the cost breakdown. He seemed to just throw it out there to see if it would stick, and waited for my reaction. Said "price of wiring had gone up". After the visit, I did the research myself and parts (including wiring) were $300, trencher rental was another $106. Go figure. Later, same day, I received another estimate from an actual electrician for $799. I'll take the $799 but I'm not sure where in the world Tobby came up with $3200. Got 7 interior doors and a French door slab installed for $2000. They were doors I brought from Home Depot. They explained that there will be some damage to the frame because they have to hit it with a sledgehammer. Got some cracks on my wall and ceiling but I expected that. One of the heavier doors started to sag and won't close right. Toby wanted $400 to come out and fix that and told me I should have gotten custom doors. I feel like if the doors fit perfectly I could have done it myself. Bottom line is I should have hired a door company that have warranty on their work. You guys decide yourself. read more
