As a Realtor I see everything out there and I bought a Highland. I could get a great deal on any builder but the one theme you will see running through the reviews of Highland is their quality and that they stand behind the product. Great people to work with and the company stands behind there warranty. I had a Client who had bought a new home in the same neighborhood as mine. His warranty was over by a few months and he was out of town so he asked me to meet the Highland people and let them in through the garage. Mike from Highland warranty department met me and took one look at the problem and said no problem we will fix it. It took longer to open the home up than for Mike to say he would fix it. I am incredibly disappointed in Highland Homes and how our family has been treated. We put down a $30,000 deposit in good faith, fully intending to build our home. Life circumstances changed unexpectedly, and we found ourselves needing to reconsider our plans. We aren't walking away because we casually changed our minds... we are a young family dealing with circumstances we never anticipated. Yet Highland Homes is refusing to return any portion of our $30,000. What is so difficult to understand is that the home can still be sold to another buyer. Highland Homes gets to keep our $30,000 AND ultimately sell the home. How is that not effectively double dipping? Thirty thousand dollars is not insignificant to a family. People lose jobs. Families have emergencies. People have to relocate. Life happens. For a company that speaks so proudly about family and "family values," I am deeply saddened by the complete lack of compassion or willingness to work with us. There should be a reasonable solution that doesn't involve a builder keeping $30,000 from a family and then going on to sell the home anyway. It feels predatory. It feels wrong. And frankly, it feels like we're being punished financially for having circumstances change beyond what we anticipated. We tried to handle this privately. We asked for help. We escalated it and hoped someone within the company would look at our situation like a human being rather than simply pointing to a contract. Instead, the answer remains: Highland Homes keeps our $30,000. I think other families considering building with Highland Homes deserve to know that this is how our family was treated before they hand over a large deposit of their own. I purchased a Highland Homes new build, completed in 2023. Within under 2 years, the front door began to crack, split, and leak a thick, sticky, sap-like material on the exterior side -- clearly not normal for a new home. I had multiple professional door contractors inspect it, and they all confirmed the same thing: the door was not properly sealed or finished at the factory, and was deteriorating due to a manufacturer defect, not homeowner neglect. The home had only been lived in for about 16 months, and there is no scenario where a properly constructed and sealed exterior door fails like this so quickly. So I submitted a warranty request to Highland Homes. Their first response was to deny responsibility, claiming "no routine door maintenance" had been performed -- which is both inaccurate and irrelevant when the failure is due to poor manufacturing. Most exterior doors don't require routine maintenance this early, especially when factory-finished. I then requested a second opinion and took more time off work for an in-person inspection with Highland's warranty rep, Brad. When he arrived, he didn't even inspect the door -- instead, he told me they couldn't help because the home's warranty had not been transferred to me when I bought the house as a second owner. Frustrated but willing to work with them, I asked: "If I go through the process of getting the warranty transferred properly, can you then help?" Brad clearly said yes, and that as long as the warranty was transferred before the August 30, 2025 expiration, I'd be covered. So I jumped through every hoop -- contacting the seller, the real estate agent, and the warranty company to get the transfer completed. I wasted significant time and energy, only to be told after the fact that Brad had changed his story and now claims this is a "homeowner-resolved issue only." So which is it? What's worse is that this entire conversation -- where Brad confirmed help would be available after a successful transfer -- was recorded on my Ring doorbell camera. It proves everything I've stated here. At this point, I feel misled and completely disrespected. This experience was not only unprofessional, it was deceptive, and shows how Highland Homes shifts responsibility and makes empty promises to avoid honoring legitimate claims. I'm sharing this experience so others know what to expect when something goes wrong in a Highland home. If Highland would like to make this right, I'm more than willing to discuss it. We closed on our home in March in the Monterra neighborhood, immediately after moving in door knobs started falling out of doors, we had issues with a bathtub in our kids bathroom and they've been working on getting it right since MAY! I cannot get a straight answer or updates. Our front door is cracking. We've been here for 5 months and face y been able to use that bathtub for 3 out of those 5 months. Frustrated to be honest. In the first 3 years ive had over 14 service requests. After 3 years microwave and dishwasher stopped working. Stove knobs and stove top indicators have worn off. Cheap appliances. Nails protruding for the ceilings on the entire west side of the house. Replaced 8 led ceiling lights that i was told would be good for decades. Island countertop splitting along the seam. Vinyl flooring not level and popping at seams throughout the house. All cabinets throughout the house has paint wearing off. Cracked tile in the masterbath, cracked tiles in the utility room. Highland never gave leftover replacement tiles. Also never gave leftover paint for cabinet touch ups​. Have been struggling with my yard for entire time since moved in and today i tore up my yard and filled an entire wheelbarrow with left over bricks that they were too lazy to clean up. So if this was just in a small area i can only Imagine what the entire yard is. So now i question alot of things in regard to this house. Things that cant always been seen. Forgot to mention the wood and bricks inside the sewer line from the house to the street. Horrible just terrible how the building managers and workers are on these houses. We would NOT recommend Highland Homes in Six Creeks. Our experience has been incredibly disappointing, and we believe there are much better options for home buyers in this community. Since moving in mid-December, we've faced three major issues that highlight the lack of quality in their work. First, our washer was installed improperly, causing a flood in our home during our first load of laundry. This resulted in damaged flooring and sheetrock that needed replacement. Second, in the middle of the night, the vent hood above our stovetop fell to the floor. Thankfully, our dogs and child were not in the kitchen at the time, or it could have been a serious accident. Highland sent someone over who confirmed it was also improperly installed. Now, just three months later, we've discovered that ALL of our flooring needs to be replaced. After pulling samples of the planks, it was determined the product itself wasn't damaged--just another installation issue. We are extremely disappointed with the quality of our home build and the level of customer service for a $600,000 home. If we could do it all over again, we would choose a Perry Home instead. Hoping to hear from upper management soon with a plan of action. They seem to be in no rush to do right. **Review Update for Highland Homes as of 5/8/25** After being moved out of our brand new house for 10 days and placed in a hotel with a child and three dogs, our floors are still gapping!!! Despite the initial excitement, the situation has only worsened. It has now been three weeks since the SECOND flooring installation, and we are still dealing with significant gaps in our floors. They also emphasize their commitment to construction and design based on "extensive research" and using "the latest methods and energy-efficient materials." Furthermore, they assert that "our business is built around relationships, not cutting corners," and highlight their dedication to the "thoughtfulness of the design and quality of workmanship." Unfortunately, our experience has been the opposite, and these promises have not been delivered in our home. 1. Initial Issues with Windows: During construction, the construction manager informed us that the windows were installed incorrectly, requiring them to drill weep holes due to drainage issues. Before they realized the problem, water had already infiltrated the house, causing mold growth on the walls, which was repaired by the builder. During our home walkthrough, we discovered that several windows were cracked, loose, and had faulty latches for opening. The builder replaced one window and addressed some of the others. 2. Ongoing Problems: One month after moving in, we noticed loud whistling noises from the windows, traced back to improperly installed molding around the glass. The weep holes were inconsistent, often sticking closed and trapping water and debris. The construction manager attempted to fix the issues by siliconing the molding to the glass, resulting in visible silicone around the window edges, and shimming the loose windows. However, over five windows have since loosened again. 3. Further Deficiencies: Incorrect screen covers were installed, blocking holes drilled for drainage. Two dangerous incidents occurred when window latches failed, causing windows to fall. One incident involved a window falling toward our mother-in-law, and another involved a window that could have fallen on our 16-month-old child. Weatherstripping was improperly installed in several rooms, leading to flapping noises and poor insulation. In our office, a window leaked over a cup of water after just 30 minutes of rain, and this occurred twice. 4. Builder's Response: The construction manager acknowledged that the windows were of poor quality and confirmed that they had switched manufacturers due to issues with the window company. Despite this, our request for full window replacement was denied. In December, we escalated the matter to the warranty team, citing over five service visits for window issues. They inspected the windows, but their resolution was limited to removing visible silicone and replacing the glass in six windows. The window company replacing the glass even criticized the quality of the windows, calling them "shitty windows" and stating that two windows were so poorly installed they needed to be replaced entirely. The warranty team requested a second opinion before acting. We were repeatedly told that these were the same windows used in the model homes, though the model homes featured upgraded black windows and concealed the quality with custom blinds. 5. Final Concerns: We have experienced leaks, loud whistling noises, cracked molding, mold growth, faulty latches, and subpar quality windows that are inconsistent with what was advertised. Despite being offered the opportunity to back out of the deal before signing due to window issues, we were assured that these issues would be addressed. After 15 service visits, the builder has failed to resolve the problems adequately. Highland Homes promotes their homes as high-quality, energy-efficient, and backed by a "10-year structural warranty," yet we have faced persistent issues with the windows in our home. We feel the company has failed to deliver on their promises, and instead, has engaged in false advertising and poor business practices. We paid over $500,000 for this home and expect the quality and customer care Highland Homes claims to provide. We are seeking appropriate compensation or a full resolution of the issues, including the replacement of all faulty windows with a higher-quality product. read more

Shortly after closing on our home, Highland Home builder trucks left oil spills all over the front of my home and all the way down my street. Horrific spills. They have informed me that this is a County issue. Apparently, you can buy one of their million dollar homes & they can trash your street immediately after for you to see all day every day. I purchased a new home from Highland Homes at Thompson Farms Van Alstyne, TX. Home completed middle of 2024 and I've completed no less than 16 repair tickets so far. The company is doing the repairs but I'm concerned that when the year ends, I won't be able to afford the twice monthly repairs on the home. Some things so far include, vent hood above stovetop broken twice, breaker for oven finally replaced after 3 other service calls. Oven has only worked 2 months out of 7 months so far. Carpet coming up in corners in 3 places in 2 separate rooms. Toilet seal broken and leaking in hall bath. Shower froze in winter (technically my fault for not dripping). Water sprinkler system 2 repairs. Tub faucet pull broke off. Tub porcelain cracking at 3 months old. Looks like it was refinished but in a new home? Door knobs coming loose enough to fall off. DO NOT BUY A Highland Home. Highland homes built us a shoddy substandard house. We have been filing warranty requests several times a week since we moved in due to all sorts of problems. We closed a month ago and still can't use our kitchen cabinets. We paid for so many upgrades, not only were the materials cheap but the labor/install were shoddy, sloppy, careless, just outright unprofessional. The builder told us this is how it is and we should lower our standards/expectations. How comforting! We bought brand new homes before from other builders and remodeled a couple of homes. We never seen such shoddy substandard work ever. Even my husband's DIYs are better. The trades here are an embarrassment to the industry. They have no shame in building crappy houses. ZERO standards. The so-called professional painters don't use blue tape and tilers don't use spacers. Our kitchen backsplash looks awful, the trim work are awful, paint jobs are messy and our cabinets are not usable. The shelves are cut too short and several of them started peeling before we even moved in. Scratches and dents everywhere on countertop, doors, trim, and appliances. You do not get what you pay for. If you want to over pay, be disappointed and hate your house, then buy a Highland Home. read more

My husband and I closed on a home with Highland Homes back in 2020. We've had concerns and problems with Highland Homes from the very beginning. Our Community Sales Manager at the time forged documents associated to some of our initial contracts. My husband had signed the documents rather quickly, but I had delayed signing in order to ensure I had adequate time to review all of the contract. Evidently, I did not sign the documents on a quick enough time table for her, resulting in her decision to sign the contract on my behalf and move forward without my consent. You can see quite clearly that is the case as she removes my access to the documents as of 9:58 AM, signs on my behalf at 10:00 AM, and then she signs at 10:01 AM. I do still have all the screenshots of this situation as proof. In either case, I let that go and we still proceeded with the home building process. I had completely lost trust with Jennifer, so we moved forward with working with another individual on her team. Fast forward to 6/25/24, we were experiencing AC/electrical problems in our home. Unsure of the root cause at the time (AC or electrical), we had company Rideout & Sons come out to take a look. They "found wire from the main panel to condenser disconnect is shorted - will come back and run new wire to outdoor panel. Ran new high voltage wire from outdoor panel to the condenser. Replaced bad contactor and breaker." In discussions with Rideout, it was an electrical issue behind the wall from the breaker box to the AC unit, which determined the root cause was an issue with the initial construction/electrical wiring of our house. Rideout also indicated that this particular issue could have led to a house fire. We have since discussed our recent concerns with Highland Homes; however, they have indicated they are unable to assist d/t the warranty stipulations. Based on the interactions that I have had with this company, it seems there is an overall lack of integrity as well as inability to resolve concerns in a timely and respectful manner. I would not recommend using Highland Homes for your home building needs. read more

Highland's company motto is, "Employee Owned, Customer Centered". I can't speak to the first part, but the customer-centered service seems to end after their first line of communication. We did a build through Highland in the Ventana community. The customer service we received from the sales reps there was very good. I felt like they communicated clearly and they served as both translators and advocates during the home-building and buying process. Everything seemed rosy until we signed the dotted line. Builds aren't without their hiccups and ours was no exception, but we worked through them. The builder follow-up experience has been anything but decent. When we closed, we had a laundry list of things that needed to be completed/fixed (largely due to covid delays and backorders), which we were told would be completed within 3 months. It took 2 years for our concerns to be addressed and not everything was fixed before our warranty was up, despite having filed warranty claims for each and every one. Between the builders being stressed out and overworked by Highland and contractors being flakey and wholly unconcerned with the quality of their work, we feel like we've been left high and dry. This is disappointing, because we heard such great things about Highland. After asking our neighbors about their experience post-build, it sounds like ours is pretty standard. Promises are made, but never followed through on. The sales reps will tell you one thing, but the build manager will tell you another. Jobs will be done obviously wrong and they'll hem and haw about fixing it. You have to be a persistent and obstinate person to be taken care of and it shouldn't be like that. I was told that Highland was "sold" to its employees in recent years and changed management. As a result, their quotas have doubled. They used to build 150-180 houses a year. Now it's closer to 300. Interpret that as you will. Per my experience, an increase in quantity usually means a decrease in quality. One of our issues that was never fixed was poor quality/installation of trim in our main areas. Highland uses standard MDF planks for trim. If you've worked with MDF much, you'll know it is mediocre quality material. It absorbs water easily (and *ahem* humidity) and it doesn't take much to ding it up. Highland's answer to that seems to be paint it a lot and caulk the crap out of it. That could work, if the people who paint and caulk know what they are doing, but the people who did our house clearly did not. All throughout the home, in public and private areas, the caulk is inconsistent in thickness and straightness. There are random thick bubbles and thin spots interspersed between zig-zags and veering lines (partially caused by our uneven tile installation job). Two years in, it has shrunk and separated from the floor in many areas, including around door jams that were obviously cut too short and caulk was used to cover it up. It looks like a 5-year-old was messing with finger paints. The trim itself was already sorely abused by the time we purchased the house. The joins in the corners are uneven/don't always meet and dirt/grime from construction debris was painted and caulked into it. We brought this to the attention of our builder and he said it would be fixed. It wasn't. We brought it to the attention of his replacement. It wasn't. We brought it to the attention of our warranty rep. He agreed it looked horrible and said multiple times he'd get it fixed, but it never happened despite multiple reminders. Finally, he said, well, Highland would never approve all new materials, so we'll just have to sand them down and repaint/recaulk them. I wasn't a fan of that idea, but said ok - and it still didn't happen! We paid a lot of money for this house. I expected the trim job to at least be clean and presentable. While we're fairly certain the house is framed well, the finishes are what people see and what speaks of the home's quality. The poor trim job takes what could be a really beautiful and amazing house and makes it just ok. We're dreading what it will cost to have it done right, but feel like that's our only option if we want our house to be presentable for sale in the future. Between the tile flooring, which was laid unevenly and poorly, and the trim, we're looking at tens of thousands of dollars in major renovations... on our brand-new home. This is just one of the major issues we've had to sometimes aggressively pursue with Highland. If you're considering a build through Highland, do your homework. It seems like they are coasting on their favorable reputation, but has changed the business practice that built it. They can't deliver on that reputation and you're the one who is going to pay. read more

We were building a home with Highlands in Round Rock, TX. We live out of state and a friend of ours sent us pictures of the framing of the home that had holes and broken pieces. We asked the builder to fix it before moving to the next phase. Took the construction manager Clint Sykes 2 weeks to acknowledge the bad wood and then told us it would be fixed. We decided to hire our own inspector for pre-drywall inspection. Builder refused to give us their inspection report. Our inspection report showed a long list of compliance issues and building code issues including exterior, structural, mechanical, maintenance such as roofing and plumbing issues. We forwarded this on to the construction manager who said this would all be address prior to drywall being put up. We told the construction manager that we wanted a re-inspection when the work is done. He said he was ready. Now in the re-inspection report...most of the outstanding issues have not be addressed. Only other options were to contact manufacturer representative about the misuse or damage to their particular product. (I.e. the windows, flashing tape, etc) Additionally present printed instructions from the manufacturer (these instructions trump any building code) to display to Highlands that they did not use the product correctly & they need it changed so as not to effect the performance, functionality or warranty of the product. We are paying them 500k to build us a 200k home. There is no reason why we should have to re-check their work. We have tried reaching out to their HQ, Sales Manager (Erin/Emily who are almost always out of town) and customer service with no follow up. Unfortunately Paloma Lake falls outside of Round Rock City jurisdiction and the city inspector is unable to come out and make sure the building is up to code. After contacting Better Business Bureau and involving an attorney... the contract is now terminated. Homes are built based on a timeline matrix and sticking to that matrix is more important than getting things right. NEVER GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO HIGHLAND HOMES. read more

The sales counselor Nelli and construction manager Ashton were a dream to work with and they made sure we were well informed every step of the way. They were available to us what seemed like 24/7, answered our 1000's of questions ( we are first time home buyers and had MANY). I had my home built by Highland home and my complaint is not about my home but the new build that is being built around my home and the filthiness bad is left behind by their construction workers, I have complained many times about the trash not only flying in my yard but it is water bottles food containers and other items that are flying in my yard. We still have a pandemic going on and I don't want to be cleaning up someone's water bottle that they had their mouth on. The trash boxes that they put all the trash in building material scraps paint buckets shingles from the roof etc. is pouring out in the yard across the street from my house what an eyesore for a new neighborhood. The people who are responsible for making sure that the workers are working and cleaning up behind themselves or not doing a good job. I am tired of complaining about this. I work from home and all day the works are playing loud music and just Throwing their trash everywhere. We live here they don't so I would hope that Highland would expect that their workers represent their business better than what they do. Do not purchase a highland home. The experience was unpleasant and nothing was what I expected as an excited first time homebuyer. When we chose to go with a lender that was not Highland the attitude and unprofessionalism from our local sales office was terrible. The home was painted white brick when it was suppose to be off white brick not painted. Our home sticks out among the others because of this and we will have the cost of repainting the exterior often. The laundry room/utility room measurements were not built to the original floor plan so our washer and dryer do not fit(standard washer and dryers) The builder confirmed that this was the case. Communication between our local office and the builder, all working on the same site, is terrible and left us wondering more than a few times. read more

The contractors that they use were mediocre. We've been in our home for a year and things are falling apart. I will not build with them again. They have a girl now that likes to answer no to any warranty issues. She's the mediator. I guess I should start with say we were warned beforehand by neighbor in the community we were going to buy into that our sales rep, Karen Olivier, was a nightmare to work with. We should've heeded the warning then, but we had to find out the hard way. Let's just say this woman could be compared to a wolf in sheep's clothing. She told us we could get a discount if we didn't have a realtor which my understanding now is VERY unethical to do. She will tell you anything you want to hear to get you to sign on the dotted line and pretends she is there for you, but in reality, she is a cunning and ruthless sales lady who talks nonstop about her house and how she ended up in a two year non talking relationship with her main builder because she asked for so many changes and accommodations. Yet, when you want to make any changes to your house, she and Highland for that matter, see it as a problem. For million dollar plus homes, this builder misses the mark BIG TIME! Make sure you ask to visit the design center before signing on the dotted line. Many of the products offered are low quality which is hard to understand for the price point of the homes in the neighborhood we almost bought a house in. For not be fooled by the lipstick on a pig. Highland does a great job with their model homes and presenting a pretty picture, but do some research and digging to peel back the facade and you will realize they are merely a tract builder with tract builder quality and based on numerous reviews, this seems to be their reputation. read more

Back drain of highland homes does not work I have 1 year of living with mud in my house the warranty department installed drainage underground in the middle of the garden and obviously ruined the other half of the garden that originally worked well the complaint was filed from day 1 that we live here and they continue to blame the dog when we have been homeowners for 8 years always with dogs and we had never had that problem until we bought Highland homes, advice before buying a house with them goes around house them and check the drain well before buying read more

This was a nightmare of an experience with this company. Our only saving grace was our Highland Homes Salesman Nick Monticello who helped us with our home in Riverbend West in Ruskin Florida. He was always up front and honest and seeked answers that we were looking for. We were relocating from RI for work and choose to build our home. At first, all seemed to be going good and then there was one delay after another with our house but yet saw other houses contracted after us much further along. They knew the position we were in, living in and out of airbnb's costing us a fortune. We contracted in March of 2021 and just now closed with items still needing to be completed. We went through 3 construction managers all leaving the home at different stages. The last construction manager moved things along however had no sense of customer service and rude and condescending when I would inquire on the process. Houses around us got finished and closed and started AFTER OURS. Absolutely no empathy or apologies except for Nick Monticello. The quality of work is nothing as advertised with paint drips on new floors, corner moldings not matching up, bulges from the drywall mudding just to name a few. I should have went with my gut when I researched this company seeing the poor reviews but liked the style of house so went with it. BIG MISTAKE. DO NOT BUY!!! This company is a rip off!!! Closed on Oct 8 this year. A few months ago. I was told my hoa would be $199 a month i get a letter Dec 8. Not even 2 months into my close of moving in my newly purchashed home it says the HOA DUES are now $239!! Like wtf!! I call and ask why The deception as they did not knew this after the last set of builds were complete Dec 1, they HAD TO have known. The property hoa whom i spoke too which is a very very very rude and condensing lady by the bane of Bethany Fritz says oh well hoa fees go up that's how it normally goes", how rude and bs reply is that, not to mention you call the number at highland homes and they never pick up. Never Never. I asked the rude lady Bethany Fritz why don't they ever pick up she goes, " well we have a million properties and only one receptionist its best to email", so why keep a phone line??? And NOT everything can be dicussed via email!! This company is deceitful, they will tell you during the buying process your hoa is one price and raise your hoa 2 freaking months after you buy claiming not to have known which is untrue!!!! Can't find Highland Homes in St Paul, so this is just going to have to do. This review is for the Highland Homes Warrant Dept. I previously wrote a review about the model Highland Home I purchased at Inspiration in St. Paul, TX. i can't edit that review because everything I wrote about was true at that time..... but I received a survey from Highland Home Warranty Dept. asking how did we do, well... they got an ear full, shortly after I received a call from Dennis Fuson who over sees the area warranty departments. He came out to the house we went over my issues along with what would make Highland better as a company and builder. Gotta admit it was a great meeting... For starters all the issue that I had submitted for repair and was promptly told that model homes are bought as is and don't have warranties, he stepped in said yes, you do have a warranty and fixed everything. He's also helped me with my upstairs AC unit and some electrical work outside that probably doesn't have anything to do with warranty work. So I guess I got lucky, just happened to get a survey and the right person to read it. So my review summary ... 1. To thank Dennis and his warranty team 2. We bought and lived in a highland home for the past 10 years. We have been generally happy about the house until this year. First we discovered that the bathtub overflow drains were not connected correctly and when the rate time that my son and the my daughter took a bath in 2 different bathrooms, the water leaked abundantly thru the kitchen ceiling and we had to get the ceiling fixed and repainted. The plumbing in the master bath started leaking and the slow leak created a lot of damage and again had to be fixed at great cost. That was one thing. More seriously, our house is brick and stucco. The stucco started cracking all around the house. The windows started leaking and the wood rotting. We are now in the process of redoing the stucco and great cost, thousands of dollars!! Stucco is supposed to last for dozens of years, not 10 years! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! DO NOT BUY A HIGHLAND HOME IN PROSPER WINDSONG RANCH!!!! There is an infestation of mice and rats. We just moved into our new home and they are everywhere in the walls. This is disgusting and once we had the exterminator and an independent contractor come out they found out that the roof line and such are not being built to code. This is going to be a minor repair and haven't heard back from highland homes. Unfortunately this looks like it's going to end up in the courts and we will fight this to the end!!! read more

I bought a new Highland home 2 1/2 years ago. I've been having electrical breaker issues. I'm six months out of warranty and have multiple breakers tripping. I spent a lot of time trying different remedies to the breaker issues. Replacing appliance parts, finding lots of loose electrical connections done by Fox Electrical and and lots of frustration when appliances shut down mid cycle. I submitted a warranty request and was told since I'm out of warranty, they would only cover one breaker at no charge. I declined and told them that the breakers that they were using were known to have issues tripping and we're known to be defective. I have three neighbors that have also been having issues with the same breakers. One of my neighbors said they were right at the two year cutoff for the warranty but that highland replaced all the appliance breakers. I have pictures from that neighbor of what was replaced. It wasn't until I got upset with the construction manager, Dave Tanguay, about how these breakers were junk that he started changing his story about what he was authorized to do. They have a two year warranty on electrical on a new build, he said all they would cover is one breaker. After I got pissed and replaced all of them myself, he finally told my he could warranty all the breakers but only charge me a service call fee. He also finally mentioned that they started using a different brand of breakers one year ago because of the reliability of my brand, Eaton afci breakers. I feel he was not forthcoming with me, just another home owner out of warranty trying to get something for free. Probably better I did the work myself because Fox is sloppy. Very poor work. Another issue I had with my house was peeling drywall tape in my bedroom. I thought they would remove and replace the tape and then add back texture. All they did was slather more texture over the tape and then repaint. I called them back twice to actually cover the repaired area with paint. Now a year and half later, the peeling, cracked texture is worse than before. Now I have to also pay to have it fixed right. I'm starting to think Highland homes is no better than J.R. Our Highland Home is one year old. We have been very satisfied. Our builder gave us weekly updates and was very sensitive to our requests and issues. Our home was completed in a timely manner and has been wonderful. The warranty service after we closed has been amazing. If I put in a work order request online, I usually hear from them or see them at my door in less than 24 hours. Our warranty issues have been minor. My only issue is that I wish the appliances and some light fixtures were higher end. They are decent but I think with a $400K home we should see a little better than Frigidaire in the kitchen. Highland Homes has just started building our home. This is the 3rd home we have built and so far Highland has been the most organized and quick to respond of any of the builders have used in the past. We looked for 2 years before we decided to have Highland build our new home in Melissa, TX and they were the only builder we talked to that was willing to make some changes to their floorplan to accommodate putting a boat in our garage. We have been especially pleased with Caren our saleslady and Steve, who is heading up the construction on our new home. read more

I'm updating my review based on the "cut and paste" response Highland Homes left to my comment on their serivces. What I hadn't explained before was that one of the head builders named Jeff came out and saw the problems, he talked to me in a very condescending way and ultimately fixed nothing. I left the review only after I had exhausted all the "warranty" requests and phone numbers in hopes they'd rectify the problem. I'm hoping to save other people the headache of choosing Highland. It's not worth the extra money! The finishing work is so sloppy and in the end you could go with a less expensive builder and be happier. Highlands response to this review is what makes me crazy!!! They act like they have avenues for resolving the problems, but really you're stuck with no recourse. You can't run fast enough!!! read more

While we did not close on the home we were building due to the COVID-19 quarantine starting 2 weeks prior to closing and our future being uncertain, the tile and floor jobs done on the home were sub par. The tile did not line up at corners in the shower and the flooring was uneven. We complained about it and were told the construction guy would look at it. Apparently he though this kind of work was okay. Due to the virus we asked if we could get half of our deposit back since we could not move at that time and Highland refused to return anything to us. We see now they are a greedy and incompassionate company and are thankful we did not give them our hard earned money for a crappy home. read more
