Highland Pines Golf Course left us SORELY DISAPPOINTED, especially considering we were looking forward to treating ourselves to a memorable day of golf. Unfortunately, after this experience, we can confidently say that WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING or RECOMMENDING ANYMORE. Pricing Discrepancies: We were excited to splurge on a round of golf, but the high prices felt utterly unjustified after the customer service and lack of care we received. We typically enjoy driving the 45 minutes from Houston where we live near Memorial Park Golf Course to indulge in a premium experience out towards Conroe. Inadequate Communication: Upon arrival, we discovered that we were not informed about the cart path restrictions until AFTER we paid...which significantly impacted our enjoyment of the course. It's frustrating to pay a premium only to face such inconveniences without prior notice. Customer Service Catastrophe: Our experience took a further nosedive when, just three holes into our round, a sudden downpour forced us to return to the pro shop for a rain check. We were met with rude and snarky remarks from the staff, which was unacceptable. Both employees made it clear that I had to "eat the cost" of a $40 rider fee, despite the fact that we were not informed about this beforehand. Their dismissive attitude made it clear that customer satisfaction was the last thing on their minds. To add insult to injury, we received only a HALF-DAY RAIN CHECK, despite not having completed even half a round. In an era when customer service is paramount, it's hard to understand why a course would treat its patrons this way, especially when there are so many better options available. Our experience at Highland Pines was disheartening. With poor customer service and unclear policies, we can't justify returning, especially when there are countless other courses that value their customers and offer a better overall experience. Save your time and money--there are far better choices out there. read more

My boyfriend and his best friend love to play golf together once a week! On my off day I have been enjoying tagging along as a rider and spending time with them. We have been coming to Highland Pines every monday for the past month. We start the morning off with breakfast tacos inside, we buy drinks from the beverage cart girl the entire time we are out there, and always go in for beverages and lunch afterwards!! I do not play golf and I am still learning how to play which is why I shy away from playing at courses I am unfamiliar with. I am scared I will slow people down. I would NOT recommend EVER coming to Highland Pines Golf Course and spending your money because of the poorly and unsettling way the staff in the pro-shop treats you and makes you feel! My boyfriend calls ahead every monday morning before we come to let them know that he will have a rider and they say that it's OK until you walk in and they say every time "for future reference riders are not allowed" as they press a "rider" button and charge a $30 fee. Obviously if you have the button on your computer and we've been doing it for the past month, it is allowed. I have been working at a private golf course for three years and we would NEVER make anyone feel this way whenever they come in. They have told us multiple times to call ahead and make sure it's not a busy day (which we completely understand) and we do that every single time!! Every single monday they have multiple LINES of golf carts in their barn and I see it every time we finish up. I hate the way that they make me feel and the way I am treated everytime I walk into the pro-shop! The pro-shop staff is extremely rude and unfriendly and they are overall unwelcoming!! I've never felt this way or been treated this way anywhere else I have gone and I KNOW I do not deserve this treatment!! The unprofessionalism of the pro-shop staff is mind blowing and I would much rather take my $130 and go spend it somewhere else where I'm treated kindly and professionally!! It's not hard to have some class, especially whenever you are working at a nice golf course like this! Besides the pro-shop staff, I always have an amazing time here and the food and beverage staff is amazing, but they manage to ruin it EVERY single time! There is a right and wrong way to go about these situations and their pro-shop staff manages to go about it in the wrong way every time!! DO NOT BOTHER SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!! As of this review, Feb of 2024, this course has faster greens than some PGA tournaments. A very dangerous course that reminds me of Falcon point in Katy, with lots of water and bunkers. The unfortunately offline shots snaps you awake from the dreamy landscape and the gorgeous shore lines that your ball just skipped over. Tentative poke of the putter, as you try to time your attempt before a gust of wind moves the ball. It is more of combined punishment from flop shots that still rolls out too much, and down hill putts that just keeps on going. Maybe I am not a smart man, I kinda enjoyed it. Those moments when you take one look back at the green as you walk away, the feeling of satisfaction of completing something hard. And the next tee box, where nature is so perfectly groomed in to mimic an Ansel Adams national park lookout. But it has some flaws. The rows of starter homes squeezed tightly like bento boxes next to some holes serves to remind you of the corporate decisions that had to be made. The construction noise and smoldering wood piles near by hints at the disappearing of most of the magnificent tree lines in the near future. As of now, this is in the top 5 courses I have played in Houston. Good job to the Pines golf group. read more

I believe there are so many great golf venues that are much more cost efficient than Highland Pines. Our tee time was 12:53 on Saturday 10/7 and parking was great. There is no clubhouse yet because it is still under construction. One of my biggest challenges was the way I was greeted. "What's your tee time" that will be $144 please. I said to myself hmmmm that's a little pricey. No clubhouse, set up in a portable facility, no smile, no how are you doing, ok hmmm. The he says do you want range balls? I said sure, and he said small bucket $9 and large bucket $20. I am like you are charging for range balls he said yep. So $144 and I still have to pay for range balls. Wow!! I belong to a Country Club, and have played some of the best private clubs in Houston, and range balls, towels, etc are included in the guest fee. I also have been greeted and welcomed like they are glad I have come to there course. Now the golf course was in great shape, and really enjoyed the challenge, and the greens were fast and well kept. It's a new course so I sure it will grow in well. I was in a couple of the sand traps and they were well prepared, and with great sand. I loved playing on zoysia fairways, and greens. The cart girl was very personable, and at the turn I went in and grabbed a sandwich and Gatorade. The young lady that helped me in the KC Chiefs shirt was awesome and made that experience memorable. In my opinion the course is overpriced to be located in the Houston area, but if you can get that more power to you. I won't be back because there are too many other great options. read more

I have been blessed to be able to golf for the last 30+ years and one common word that defines the game is INTEGRITY! Never, not once in my life, have I ever come across a situation where someone put down a $2000 deposit for a group to play and everyone no showed. Common sense would tell you someone made an error and in fact they booked the wrong date. The pro shop employee, pro shop manager, golf instructor or GM would all realize something was off and reach out to the guest. Worst case scenario you receive a credit to play at a later date, best case scenario a full refund, but regardless of the details, no one makes a $2000 donation to a golf course! It's sad to see a new club with so much potential crash before even taking off. I've heard about the flooding issues, the construction, the slow play, but I love the game and am always willing to return to a course, but in this case Highland Pines Golf Club will not only never receive a green fee from me, but I will proactively lobby against anyone in my network of over 520 golfers to play this course. The way this golf course handled this situation by not providing a credit or refund is pure theft and shows poor integrity and bad business all around. I sincerely hope folks reconsider playing here after reading this. read more

I would grant "NO STARS" if I could. I am so sick of money grubbing golf management and course owners treating its clientele like second class citizens. This owner... and related sister properties saw fit to charge a good friend of mine $2000 for an honest tee time booking error. We are only human and these golf courses are printing money after Covid. Dennis Wilkerson... you should be ashamed of your poor decision and short sightedness. My friend is a part of a much larger group that reaches golfers not only in the Houston area but in Dallas, Austin and Atlanta. In days passed... we have made countless tee times at your properties but "NO MORE"!!! Treasure your quick and greasy $2000 and make it last because it will be a cold day in Dallol, Ethiopia before anyone in our group of more than 300 golfers make another tee time at any of you affiliated courses. read more

The course is beautiful and the clubhouse and facilities are very nice. You probably need to a pro to enjoy this course. It's really expensive to play and not for "casual" golfers. read more

Had a group of ladies play Wednesday. The member making arrangements was quoted one price, but when we all arrived was charged another price. When we arrived at our cart, it was filthy- got a towel from the starter and told him, if they were going to charge $100 green fees, they should at least have clean carts. In my opinion, the golf course was at times a challenge because of pin placement and fast greens. Very long yardage for ladies over 60. food was good and waitstaff was excellent. played it once but will not go again read more

Played on a Friday afternoon. The online booking did not display the pricing (updated since then). Was expecting $65 for twilight which it was it was previously. Was charged $85. No senior rate available. Finished front 9 in the rain and staff said no rain check available. We protested and the staffer said "it was above his pay grade" and if we didn't like it to not return because theY "were always fully booked" a lie because nobody teed off after us. Nice course but definitely not worth $125 + sales tax of $11. Not worth anything for n an afternoon with iffy weather and NO RAIN CHECKS. Take your money to Oakhurst, Tour 18, or one of the other courses in the area read more

I tried to book a tee time Highland Pines for 12 guys that was driving thru Houston headed to Lake Charles for a golf weekend. The guys heard about the new course in Houston and wanted to play it after I gave good reviews based on my past play although overpriced compared to the market in Houston. I called the Pro Shop 2 weeks in advance and was told that I had to book online 5 days in advance. I waited 5 days prior, woke up at 5 in the morning and booked the tee time online with a $2000 deposit. Little did I know, I made a mistake and booked the round for the "Same Day" instead of 5 days in advance. I received the confirmation and still did not recognize the mistake. So, I never called the course because I did not realize that I had done anything wrong. I did not realize anything was wrong until an Employee that knew we were playing that day called and said he did not see our names on the daily tee sheet. For the record, I have been golfing for 30 + years. I am fully aware that there are rules for missing a tee time without notification. But who secures a $2000 tee time and doesn't show up to donate to a golf course. That would be a clear indicator to the average person that either something tragic has happen to the players or a mistake was made in the booking process. The fact that nobody showed up would have been red flags to at least inquire with the person that book the tee times considering the amount of money. I fully understand that this a business but there is a such being practical. Plus, I did not ask for the money back. Needless to say.....I called the course immediately to apologize and to explain the situation to the Upper Manager. I also asked if there were tee times available that aligned with our desired time, because we still wanted to play at 3pm. The answer from the Manager was, yes, those times are available! Since I booked the tee times on the wrong day, the cost was $160 a man (weekend rate). The cost for the time we wanted to play was $125 a man. So, I offered to pay the $160 a man for the mistake that I made in the booking process and still come out to the course and play later that day. The Manager stated, "the only thing I can do is charge you another $90 a man to play today! There is nothing I can do because we are trying to run a business and those slots kept other players from playing." And refused to give me a credit! (3 guys from our group wanted to test that Manager's theory and went out and played at the available time. Needless to say there was no one in front or behind them for the entire round.) Fortunately, I am a part of large network of over 500 golfers from Louisiana, Austin, Beaumont, Port Author and Dallas that all come to Houston to play under our recommendation. I have quickly spread the word in our chats and all of them have vowed never play this course out of principal. There are a lot of excellent courses in Houston to play within that price point or lower. And far more customer service. If you miss a flight, even the airlines give you a credit for missing a flight to rebook, but golf course can't...... I have spent a couple of hundreds dollars on golf, food, drinks and in the pro shop in their short existence. All while trying to bring more business to the course and they treat my fellow golfers and myself like this....is sad. All of our local Houston Groups talked and have decided to never play a Tour 18 Inc. owned property. Not one golfer of the many on the call have seen something so egregious. read more

To start: many reviews have complained about the customer service and I will agree. There needs to be some training done for those dealing with the public. A foursome spending 400.00+ deserves a friendly welcome, a thank you for coming, and hope you enjoy the round etc. I played this course with my son twice in December. This is a beautiful course. The Zoysia fairways and Lazer Zoysia greens were in excellent condition for the time of year. 65.00 green fee for early afternoon weekday play is a fair price. Fair warning: the greens are FAST, bordering on ridiculous and unfair fast, but still fun. My only frustration is how tight the fairways are and areas close to the green. It's very difficult to chip / pitch inside 30 yards when the landing areas are that tight and used my putter frequently because of that. Looking forward to some warm weather play to see if the fairways thicken up some. read more

Course is beautiful but the staff there couldn't be worse. Customer service is horrendous and they'll charge you still even if you cancel your tee time via phone. They'll then tell you how that's them protecting the tee sheet lol. Starters are rude especially the lady at the first tee. All around just a dump of experience for $160. Nice course... but that's the good. I was charged $541.25 for canceling a tee-time 3hrs prior to our tee-time for 4 players. I'm almost 63yrs old with a tender back & hips and not looking to walk/cart-path only a wet course. The day before our scheduled round, I called the course to check on the conditions because of rain 2 days prior. I was then told to call the following morning. When I called the next morning, I was told it was cart-path only. At that point, I/we canceled. The person on the phone NEVER told me I would be charged $541.25 for canceling. I've been golfing for 25+ years & NEVER heard of someone being charged for canceling a tee-time 3hrs before. NEVER!!! 2 days later, BOOM $541.25 charged to my credit card. If I/we had been told of the change, we would've been at the golf course. I/we golf as a group of 4 every Sunday at a minimum. The last 6mos we've golfed at Highland Pines once a month, and the last few months, we've started golfing at Augusta Pines once a month as well. Needless to say, we as a group will not be frequenting any of these courses in the future... NEVER. Unfortunately, I know that probably doesn't matter to this organization. That's about $1000 a month in lost green fee revenue from our group. Not to mention those we tell about our experience. Charging $541.25 for canceling a tee-time 3hrs prior is... Let me start off by saying I will never play this course again. The arrogance and attitude of the staff in the pro shop located in the pro shop trailer onsite was over the top. Discount Pricing quoted by phone was $65 but not posted on their website and no mention of added taxes. This price was not honored upon our arrival. The golf carts were older equipment , used and no upgraded technology as in GPS. We tee'd off at 2:09 pm, It started raining on the eighth hole, and as we got to the ninth hole, we decided we would curtail our golfing activities. We went back to the pro shop trailer and requested a rain check for the other nine holes that we didn't play and we were told there were no rain checks issued based on our 2 o'clock tee time. We were told they didn't offer rain checks with discounted green fees ($85+ tax). This made no sense as we would have had to use the rain check based on the discounted rate and tee time. As it turns out we could have tee'd off at 1 o'clock at the same price of $85 + tax although their website said 2 o'clock was the start time. As for the course, the fairways were wide, some hazards, partial paved cart paths and as a 16 handicap golfer, challenging. The greens were a special type of hybrid tiff so they were very fast but not much break. The clubhouse is at least another six months away from being completed and operational. Last but not least, when we were told there were no rain checks, our response was, other courses we play have a rain check policy and that policy typically is if you play nine holes or less when rain hits you will receive a rain check for the other nine holes. We told the pro shop assistant, if this was the case of no rain checks, we would not be playing there again and his response was "well that's OK, we have plenty of golfers who are playing this course". His / their lack of training, business acumen and arrogant response was shocking. A round of golf here is $125 + tax until 1pm and then $85 + tax after 1 pm winter rates. This Golf Club is trying very hard to be a Kingwood Country Club or Woodlands Country club wannabe without the amenities but with complimentary dose of attitude and arrogance displayed by their staff. This course was over priced unless you are an upper income earner with a 8 handicap or less and enjoy a golf club who promotes arrogance and snobbery. read more

Pick the right tee, or you will have a fight for 18 holes. Great second shot golf course, superintendent goal is 12 on STIMP. With multiple breaks on fast smooth greens, you better hit your approach close, or 3putts, or even 4 putts happen. Water on play on 10 holes, not counting creeks/drainage on 2 others. If you're someone who plays back tees, to see the course on first time, know that #17 is replica of #16 Augusta, (I see many chip/putt to left pin, into bunker,or water. #18 is 240 carry to shortest carry, fading right is 280-290 carry. 18 green is 50 yds deep, mounding in middle. I've heard of bet, ball in back portion, pin up front, that player couldn't 4putt. He failed. Great course, great staff read more

First off... after paying $130 each for the round, they asked us to pay another $10 each for range balls which was annoying. Once we started playing, we were asked 10 times to speed up pace of play, even though we were not holding anyone up. The marshalls kept following us and watching us like hawks, although we were playing on pace. They told us over and over that we were playing 2-3 minutes behind the pace of play. At one point, the "bosses" came on their cart and told us we were "way behind" and that they were supposed to make us skip a hole but felt gracious enough to not make us do that. We finished the round in 4 hrs 17 minutes, and that is including the ~7 minutes worth of listening to the marshalls complaining to us. The course was in good shape, but we were not even able to enjoy it because we were constantly being rushed. Honestly not surprising after the way Augusta Pines has been managed the past several years. For having to pay such a high price, recommend going to another one of the nice courses in Houston where they actually want you to be there. read more
