Mike was a great communicator from the start in picking out slabs, and getting pricing. I had a whole home I needed countertops for the kitchen, 3 bathrooms and all the window sills. Mike took a deposit for the stone, held the stone for months while I installed cabinets and got ready for template. Mike was quick to respond when I was ready for template and installed on my tight schedule. Everything was simple and easy from the beginning, and I felt his pricing was right in line where I wanted it to be. I didn't even get a second quote. We recently got new kitchen appliances and needed to get rid of our old countertops. My husband called Michael and he came over to give us an estimate. I read some of the other reviews for this company and I truly cannot believe what I was reading. I much more agree with Stephanie P. Michael and his team did a fast, amazing, high quality kitchen countertop job for me just last week. We drove out to meet him at his shop last Sunday, as he was willing to meet us on a weekend day. Explained to him the size and color scheme of the kitchen and he took us to some great options. When I pointed out a full slab that could work, his response was "That is much too large for your kitchen and you would have to buy the full slab if you went with this. You are better off picking something already cut into a half slab and save money." Ok, so he has MY interest in mind as well as his own. See, things like that mean a lot to me. We finally found the perfect slab, already half, perfect color, but alas, he was not sure if it was available or not. Wait till Monday so he can call someone and verify? Oh, no. He got on the phone and called someone ELSE on that very Sunday to see if it was free or not. Fortunately, it was. Delighted, we were. Ok, so wanna come out and measure the kitchen next week so you can get the slab cut? "Why dont we go out to your place and measure right now?", he suggested. Wow, really? Ok, let's do that. Sure enough he followed us to the apartment, measured everything out that same day (Sunday, mind you), booked an appointment to come out the following Thursday, had his guys come in Thursday morning as he promised, they installed the tops AND a new undermount sink for a VERY reasonable price. Done and done. I cannot speak to what Michael and Highland Stone may or may not have done in the past, but I can absolutely tell you that the work, materials, and service he provided to my girlfriend and I have been nothing short of 10 stars. This is the third time I've used Michael over the course of 17 years. Twice he did my kitchen; this time my bathroom. Using Michael is not like going to Dahl Tile or Home Depot. He has what he has and you need to pick from his stock which changes constantly. I found a full slab I liked and paid up front for the stone, not something I'd usually do but I trust the guy. It took us two months because of delays due to COVID and finally when the vanity was installed he came out and drew up his template. When he saw what we were doing he realized I had too much stone so he reduced his price 35%. I had purchased square-under-counter sinks and when he saw them he suggested oval. They came out great! It took him about 10 days from when I called him to cut his template and install the stone. Plus he came out again to measure the backsplash which couldn't be installed with the counter top and dropped it off the next. Is he busy? Does he call you right back-not always but he calls, and he comes, follows through and his work is excellent. So if you want to save 50% on your granite counter tops and get and excellent job use Michael. Expect a bump or two but when it's done you'll be very happy. read more

Called the granite business in front of Michael's shop to confirm business hours only to find out when we get there that they had left early for the day. Michael stopped and offered to help us out. We knew what type of granite we wanted and he happened to have it in stock. Our bathroom job wasn't scheduled for another month so we said we would be in touch after he quoted us. Bathroom job finally rolled around and Michael had the template measured and granite installed within a week and was able to accommodate us throughout his busy schedule and ours by having it installed after we had gotten home from work. I have had the pleasure of working with Michael Padilla of Highland Stone several times. This last time not only did Michael deliver the product but within a few days of my order. His crew is fantastic to work with, gets right to work and gets it done! We had some left over granite and Michael made the suggestion that we could use the left over for an island that currently had a butcher block top on it and even came over when we were ready to install it! While the quality of workmanship and personality was fine, I ended up with a 4 ft long crack in my shower granite slab, and have been trying to get him to come fix it for FIVE MONTHS! He ignores communications, but has known about this the whole time - and won't come fix it or answer my texts (which are always polite). Initial work = excellent, customer service afterwards = pretty darn poor I'm sad to say. read more

Do NOT use this contractor (Michael Padilla). Jerked us around numerous times for date/time of delivery, was so late on day of supposed delivery that had to reschedule for the following day. Cut every single piece of granite WRONG. Never offered a reduced cost due to incompetence in cutting the granite. Wanted full payment upfront. Definetly shaddy! Has an "F" Better Business Bureau rating (found out after the fact). Stay Away! Would NEVER recommend. read more

You do not want to engage in any business transactions with Highland Stone or Michael G. Padilla. He uses the phone numbers 720-998-7998 and 303-668-8047 and his place of business address is 145 South Pecos Street, Denver CO 80223. He posts granite and other items on Craigslist a lot of the time. I would be skeptical of buying granite or anything else from him. I have never taken the time to write a public complaint but I feel the public needs to be forewarned about this man and his shoddy and wrong business practices. It has been a nightmare experience that began in November of 2013 and now we are headed to court. In a synopsis, we were remodeling a 7'x11' master bath and we wanted (simple, straightforward) granite countertops. I saw granite slabs advertised on craigslist in the variety I wanted. I viewed/purchased one slab from Michael Padilla (Highland Stone) and in talking he said he could fabricate and install for us. I asked how long it would take; he said "a week or so". I said "fine"-it was convenient. I paid in full for the slab. He came out early December, after the custom cabinets were installed to measure the dimensions of the 4 pieces of granite we needed. At this time I paid him half of the fabrication fee. A week later he sends 2 of his installers out to install without bothering to call to set up a time. A tile contractor was working at the house and he assumed that I knew they were coming- which I didn't. I come home to 2 strange men in my house. I called Michael to tell him how unprofessional this was- he apologized. A few minutes later I rush upstairs to the bathroom because I hear a sawing noise and smelled smoke. They proceeded (without my knowledge or approval) to cut the custom vanity, in order to get the pieces to fit. To their knowledge, but not mine, 2 out of 4 of the granite pieces were cut too short- they installed them anyway. The installers tried to convince me that everything was fine and could be remedied with thick grout or caulking. I didn't agree and told them I was not going to accept these pieces. The polishing craftsmanship of the edges was uneven and shabby looking. I called Michael to let him know that the pieces were not acceptable; the whole experience had been horrible. He said he would make sure to take care of everything. He came out the next morning (12/12/13) to re-measure. I didn't hear back from him for three weeks thereafter. Things proceed to go from bad to worse. From 1/3/14-1/21/14, 33 phone calls are exchanged between me and Michael Padilla regarding when the 2nd install will take place. Michael starts feeding me excuse after excuse as to why the second set of pieces of granite aren't ready. He tells me on 1/9/14 the pieces would be ready to install, we plan on the morning of 1/13/14, when I called to confirm that morning he said he wasn't sure and would call me back. 3 days later I got a call back from him with excuses saying his shop froze up and he couldn't do any work, yet he already had told me the pieces were ready to be installed. At this point I feel like I am getting the run-around and get my husband involved. My husband calls Michael on 1/17/14 to see when the pieces will be ready. Michael says they are ready and could install this evening. My husband calls me to confirm the install that night, I say fine. My husband drops in without notice to Michael's shop that afternoon and finds that the granite has not been cut, nor polished nor is it anywhere ready to be installed. Michael Padilla has been lying to us all along, stating that it was. The next evening, he and an installer show up to do the install again and find out the pieces have been cut too short a second time. He said he had a third piece of granite for me to come see the following morning. I go to see it and when I arrive I am told the piece has been cracked and cannot be used. I tell him I want my money back and he says I will receive a partial refund. I haven't heard or seen of any return of funds yet, so on to court we go. Upon researching, I am only one of many unhappy customers. The Denver Broncos are taking this guy to court too. I sustained further damage to the bathroom because these guys never took any of the miss-cut pieces with them, just left the adhesive on to dry. The window sill had to be pried out and the adhesive on the other pieces peeled off the drywall in many places. Now a big mess with more money and time involved. Save yourself the hassle of dealing with this guy and just don't! read more

Michael did a granite job for me. I paid him cash because he has IRS problems and requested cash. Was pleased so I also included a $200 tip. He asked me how much I was giving him and he said that was short and he needed $500 more for the job. I showed him the quote that he had gave me for the job. He got mad, grabbed the money, jumped in his truck and drove off. 30 Minutes later he TEXTED me to tell me that I shorted him $500 on the cash. I had no time to count it to him because he grabbed it and left. I told him that he needs to recount the money. He then says I shorted him $400. I told him if he needed the money that bad I would pay him the $200 because of the extra $200 I gave as a tip. He keep texted me but would not come get the money. He then tells me I was supposed to tip the guys and he needs $300 for that. I did tip the guys right after they did the job. His crew is amazing and really nice guys but Michael is not trust worthy. read more
