I was immediately taken by a feeling of discomfort as we entered the room, I didn't know why. But when I saw how small & cramped of a space it was, I assumed it was this discomfort of being crowded. The king bed occupied most of the small room and we had to be careful to get around the bed corners. The bathroom had a rectangular shaped sink and a nice shower. A small refrigerator was available. The bed had a tall wooden frame around it to make me wonder what purpose it served. We had reserved for two nights. The brewery next door proved to be wonderful. Great craft beer and delicious sandwiches. The Wells had a nice trail though its slightly wooded grounds that was lit with cute tiny lights at night. A stream runs through part of the grounds with a nice gazebo to sit and take in all the wonder of this nicely staged property. It was unique. The first morning I noticed the bathroom sink was not draining well as I washed up. I also noticed a slightly brown tint showing on a bath mat on the floor next to the toilet. I went for a walk on the grounds as my husband took a shower. When I returned to the room, my husband said the shower did not drain. As I looked at the shower, I noticed a definite brown color to the undrained water in the shower. By now, it was clear to me the sewer was backing up into the room. We immediately called the proprietor to report what was happening. I started packing my belongings and told my husband I did not want to stay here. I had not taken my shower, nor did I want to at this point! Other people were seen in the parking lot loading up to leave. They were victims of this event too. The proprietor stated she would be giving us a refund. This was an isolated occurrence for sure, but one I will never forget! This event happened in Fall of 2024. I hope The Wells has insured it will never happen again.

All the folks that work/own this establishment are so friendly and warm that even this midwesterner was shocked and surprised by their kindness. (We'd never been to this area of NC so didn't quite know what to expect.) This place is directly off the main drag, and is run by a husband and wife with a small team to assist. Julie (the owner) was as sweet as pie, and each morning greeted us in the dining area, offering to prepare our bacon and eggs in any style. This was probably the best aspect of our stay. She was happy to talk with us endlessly, and quick to make an outline of all thing things we could do during our stay. The continental breakfast area was always available for guest use, we really loved that; we played hours of Uno there of an evening. The rooms, while small, are efficient and most importantly of all--*so* clean. We stayed in one of the "round house" buildings (I think there are only 2?) on the second level. Our deck was shared by the neighboring room, with whom we enjoyed chatting one evening on said deck. Our room was equipped with a mini-fridge. Soaps, towels, toilet paper, and everything you would expect in a standard hotel were provided. The walls are thin enough to hear our neighbors, however everyone seemed to be respectful, so it didn't bother us too much (there was a cute barky dog next to us, but her cuteness exceeded her barkiness). A note about the rooms being small - there are common spaces all around the property aplenty. So the room size didn't matter too much to us because our time spent there was basically for sleeping / showering. The main building, as already mentioned, has a great room / parlor area with fireplace for hanging out. There are chairs on the front porch, and even an outdoor firepit with a view of the neighboring mountain ridge (which we did not use). The size of the room was outdone by all of these added amenities, and there felt like a sense of community there. Do not let room size deter you from a stay. The property is close enough to the main road that you can hear traffic, but the noise was tolerable, and it was not constant. This did not bother us, and would not deter us from another stay here, ever. I fail to understand any review which is four stars or less, people will complain about everything. The accommodations were priced just right ... we stayed in high-season (July) and were quite pleased by what we paid. The Brook Trout Inn exceeded our expectations in every way. Go hike Gorges State Park! Then go to Whitewater Falls, during your stay!

But this review would simply be incomplete without a rave review for Donna's most delicious breakfasts that she serves daily. Yummy! It had a 4 Star rating with AAA and it looked beautiful so I made the reservation. We were looking for a place to relax, do some hiking and look at nature and that is exactly what we got and more. When we got there Henry and Clare, who own this beautiful Bed and Breakfast, made us feel welcomed immediately. The grounds and the B & B are breathtaking. We stayed in the Lord Tenneyson Room. The lake nearby is Lake Glenviille which is incredible. They had a champayne cruise on the the lake and the next day evening drinks. They also served a full breakfast daily in the room. Clare and Henry gave us a map of hiking trails. They recommended Rainbow Falls and Whitewater Falls. Great hikes and even better scenery. This facility is well worth the 4 stars. Their service is just as good as any 5 star resort. It is romantic and well worth the trip.

So the inn is a gorgeous property and the fall air made everything so crisp and beautiful. Claire and Henry welcomed us so warmly and made everything special. They were so kind to upgrade us to the Emily Bronte Suite that we loved! The room was warm and cozy, I loved the bathroom!! Lol. My husband really enjoyed that they brought breakfast to our room. He had never stayed in a place that did that for guests. It was always delicious and got us ready for a day of exploration. We went to the hospitality hour almost every day. Claire and my husband talked about craft beers and she was such a sweetheart to remember what kind of beers he enjoyed and had them at the next days hospitality hour. We took all of Claire and Henry's recommendations on things to do and good places to eat. Which included; the Champagne Cruise (lots of fun, Claire brought those delicious crackers she makes) different waterfalls to go see, and going to see the Biltmore in Asheville. It may be great in the summer but this is off season and there is none of that. The stables were open, but I saw no one. It's a one ply toilet paper inn. The bistro and bar they advertise has not been open since the pandemic. For breakfast you get a mini sausage and biscuit and a mini cup for coffee. Rooms do not have daily housekeeping. Worse yet, it is advertised as being in Bryson City, it is 8.3 miles away from the downtown area and activity. The doors to the lobby close at 6 PM. After that you are on your own.It also gives the feel of a motel, not a resort. Because we were so far away from the action, we ended up being in bed by 7 pm. There were too many winding roads to risk going to a bar or any other night life that far away. I do like something about this place. I could see it being a real neat resort. It is homey and has a nostalgic atmosphere. But during November it is bland. Maybe it's days gone by. Will I be back? Maybe in the summer. But it needs a better variety of breakfast food, a good restaurant and bar to survive.
