This is a really tough review to write. First, my wife and I love our veterinarian. She is amazingly caring and thoughtful. It is unfortunate that we cannot review the aspects of practice that really need to be made public. So please do not allow anything I am going to explain reflect on Dr. Amy. We took our dog into the vet for blood work twice, once 10/30/24 and 2/14/25. The problem happened both times. The report went to TVMDL both times the cost was about $268 for a blood chemistry and CBC. Both times the report contained the message "The sample was degraded, clotted, necrotic, or otherwise not suitable for testing. The whole blood sample was clotted. TVMDL is unable to preform the CBC on this specimen." For the 10/30/24 sample they agreed for us to come back in and have more blood drawn to redo the CBC. We did and the report contained the following comment, " . . . Therefore, the automated data should be interpreted with slight caution in this case. Additionally, the RBC morphology could not be fully assessed in this sample. If clinically indicated, repeat CBC on a new sample is recommended." The vet did not comment on this caution. No additional blood testing was done until February. The February testing came in with the same comment, however, we were just told here is the report, Dr. Amy will call you tomorrow. When I called back after reading the same comment, the person, said, "Oh it looks like they put this on all the reports." I called TVMDL and after being talked down to and lectured and threats of denial of future service they finally told me that no indeed they do not put that comment on all reports. The specimen was indeed degraded and the report only includes the blood chemistry testing report. TVMDL is whole other organization that needs an overhaul. But that review will come later. I called HWY 30 vet and spoke to someone and asked for who was incharge of the clinic. They transferred me to a Head Technician. I told Chris Martinez, that my concerns were going to be above his paygrade and asked to speak to someone who assumes responsibility for the entire clinic. That is when I spoke with Barbara Soto, the manager. I told her about not incidents. I also indicated I thought I should not have to pay for delivery or the test if they do not have procedures that ensures the quality of the sample. I do not think you can depend on the results if they have no procedures to properly deal with samples once collected. She called back and said, I could bring my dog for another sample" and they would do the CBC in house and they would do the new analysis for free. It seems to be their lack of procedures and poor quality control caused the problem they should have refunded the money, if for no other reason than, three blood tests in a row were problematic. Two that were unable to be performed because the sample had degraded and one that the results could not be trusted. For whatever reason that was totally unintelligible to me. Why would so much time pass between the blood draw and it getting to the lab?? There is a separate charge for delivering the sample to the lab. Don't they use high quality tubes and appropriate anti-coagulation for blood that is not supposed to be clotted?? At $268 pet parents should be able to count on quality materials and the ability to timely deliver the specimens to the lab. read more

We have always had a good experience with them. Kind, compassionate and loving. I personally don't find their cost to be any more than most in this area. Vets are expensive. The cost of having that beautiful fur baby. read more

I'm moved to Grimes county a year ago starting over I had to find a vet, I choose Highway 30 , I m very picky about my packs care, my little Tibetan spaniel started getting ill, we took her in, I was impressed with the high standard, reassurance of helping, when my little sweetie was diagnoses was serious, I was kept updated on her what test, care she was getting. The staff was kind. Dr Lackey is brilliant , kind of gruff, but that's his nature, to the point, no foo foo, dogs are animals and his diagnostic style may seem ruff but it's not he doing what any good doctor does while diagnose. read more

Way too over priced and did a poor job on the hair cut for my dog . Not very friendly either.

Love love love this Vet office!! I have mentioned all this on Facebook but wanted to update here as well. The staff is so kind and shows so much love towards my puppers!! Every time we pull up for a visit my dog knows exactly where we are and gets so excited, that shows a lot. Feel 100% comfortable leaving my fur baby with them!! read more

I am so pleased with this Veterinary Clinic. I had my Boxer diagnosis with Cancer that spread very fast. I only had two more days with my friend, until I had to put him down from his suffering. I had little time to say my unexpected good-bye. The team at the Clinic was so kind in the care they gave my and to "Todd". His last moments of life was with great patience and kindness from this team. Even when I ran out of the Clinic, after "Todd's" last breath, Dr. Lackey came to me, at my truck, to make sure I was ok. Greatly appreciated and sympathetic for my needs too. Not knowing, but finding out later by the receiver, A&M sent me a kind note that the Clinic had given a donation for the Animal Clinic, in "Todd's" name. Wow. Thank You for everything. I love highway 30 vet clinic. I take both my dogs there and I have only positive things to say. They remind me about upcoming appointments, update me with a magazine with common pet parent issues and generally love my dogs. They even went as far to check on me and my dog when they saw a lost dog post online that looked like my dog. It wasn't her that was lost but to know they cared was incredible. Definitely love this place and as long as I live in Texas this will be my vet. read more

I was very disappointed in this clinic. It gets 2 stars only because the staff is so nice and really helpful. I saw both Dr. Lackey's (husband and wife). Dr. Diane (wife) was very nice and really helpful with questions I had over my dogs ears. She took her time for which I was very grateful. Dr. Gary (husband) was not great to work with. He manhandled my dog like he was cattle. He hardly put his coffee mug down the entire time he was with us, having his staff do almost everything. I was put off by his behavior and his desire to explain the most basic things to me, even after telling him that I've had dogs for over 30 years. I highly recommend Dr. Diane but she only works a few days a month. read more

Wow! I cant believe the lengthy attack on Dr. Lackey!! Maybe poster EK should open a Vet practice just to evaluate Veterinarians. I have known the Lackey's through my parents who have cattle and dogs and cats and through 2 of my dogs, one which I have now. Dr. Lackey has given nothing but excellent care to my animals. Randy and Penny. And my parents 3 dogs and cattle. I have never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my pet appointment with Dr. Gary or Dr. Diane. They have diagnosed my pets with odd conditions off the bat, when I tell them. The clinic staff is friendly. Now to the big issue of competence. Both the Lackey's and their associates are sought after around this part of College Station, TX. Dr. Lackey is very serious and intense, always concentrating, if I pop a joke most the time he does not laugh he is so into what he is doing. or my joke wasn't funny. When my dogs have had test he sits down with me shows me X-rays and either he or staff are good to explain what tests they are performing and why. When any of our dogs need to stay for further testing he will tell me. When my first dog Randy died, I was completely devastated and cried hard. Dr. Lackey offered me a ride home. Is that what the usual 30 vet hospital would do. I doubt it. There is no doubt as to his expertise according to other Veterinarians. I recommend he and Dr. Diane highly. They graduated in 1979 and have been around since then always helping and an asset to the community. When Randy died they sent a monetary contribution to a Charitable Animal society. I have worked in the Veterinary industry for 8 years before moving to College Station. Including working at 2 doctor practices up to managing a 30 doctor specialty practices. This is the worst practice that I have ever been to or worked for. The main doctor, Dr. Lackey, seems ill-prepared for his appointments and when delivering test results he seems to not refer back to his appointment notes and therefore makes assumptions about the pets' situation which require reminding him during the conversation. He also agreed to continue a previously prescribed medication but when refills come around he declines them without informing the client and had to again be reminded the reason my pet was on the medication and at that time he approved the medication . Altogether not a good veterinarian, in my opinion. Recently there has been a new veterinarian, Dr. Hilburn, who seemed to be more prepared during appointments. We decided to start seeing her before we left this vet all together. Initially, she seemed great however, during our last appointment she decided to switch our pet's diet and at the conclusion of the appointment she stated that she would email the specific diet to us later that day and asked me to write down my email address. That email never came even after a week. I decided to give the doctor the benefit of the doubt due to the holidays and called to check the delay. They stated the doctor wasn't in so they could take a message and attempt to contact her and confirmed my email address which was incorrect in the computer which later I find out is what she used rather than the email address she asked me to write down. Later in the day, I received an email from the clinic stating the attached was the image was the food that the doctor wanted me to switch too. Unfortunately, there was not image attached. I called the clinic to see if they could verbally tell me the food, and I was told that there was never an image attached. The receptionist/technician informed me that in my record it stated that I was to put my pet on Royal Canin Digestive Comfort but she will still confirm with the vet but I might not hear back until the doctor was in (when we had an appointment). When doing research to find the food I find out the food is only offered in Canada, and I called the clinic to let them know and they again stated that they would leave another message for the doctor. At this point, along with other situations in the past I start discussing with the receptionist my concerns about communication and medical treatment with regards to my pet. I was polite and respectful and understanding since I have been in their position in the past. I just wanted to express my concerns rather than switching vets without trying to figure out the disconnect. The next day at work I receive 5 phone calls from the vet and final a voicemail stating that my appointment the next morning is cancelled and I can call tomorrow to find out why. I call the clinic to see if the doctor was still in and to let them know that I would like copies of my medical records. The doctor was not in but the receptionist stated that I could come and pick up my records any time. I picked my records up that evening since I had scheduled another appointment with a different vet the next day and found a letter firing me as a client. This was not a problem since I was planning on firing them but I still don't have the medical information to help my pet and now have to start all over again at another vet. i have been taking my dog "sugar" here for years. always polite and friendly with a family type atmosphere. my dog isnt a "dog friendly" type of dog but they always accomodate for her and make scheduling easy. sugar is always happy when i pick her up like she has been well taken care of and as unpet-friendly as she may be, she loves humans that much more! i will continue taking her here. prices are reasonable and usually takes around 5 mins or so for drop off and then pickup. wednesday is spa day where they do her nails, clean her ears and give her a bath. she seems to love it! thanks for everything to the team at hwy 30 vet clinic! read more
