I'm writing this to share my experience, which wasn't great. I started out as a junior in…read morehighschool, I was a first year cosmetology student at the power campus. At the time the head of the cosmetology department for EVIT was Lisa French. I can applaud her for keeping the rules consistent and holding regular meetings to address rules. She was never rude to the teachers, only stern and professional as it is her job to regulate the campuses to state board standards. She tried her best to have good relations with the students and the instructors. During my first year as a cosmetology student, I had Jaci Maron as my instructor. Everyone in my class loved her! Although, she could have been a bit better with directions and checking our work. Other than that she really cared about the students and was the only instructor that I knew of that advocated for us when we had complaints. Fast forward coming into EVIT as a second year cosmetology student still at the power campus. This is where things completely ruined my experience here. In my first semester I was happy to get Jaci Maron as my instructor again. Everything was going relatively fine until Lisa French resigned from her position. This left a new dean, Adam Malik. In addition, my instructor Jaci Maron also resigned from her position. This left our class with a new instructor Belizabeth Urena. As I am writing this,  Mrs. Urena is my current instructor. Everyone loves her. I think amongst the challenges this program has thrown our way, Ms. Urena has made this experience a lot better. She is very kind and relatable and truly cares for the students. Throughout my second semester rules started changing. These rules included, leaving early, hours, absences, break times, bathroom privacy, and many more that are more related to cosmetology regulations. I can elaborate on that more if anyone is reading this and wants to ask questions. As for the new dean Adam Malik, he started adding random rules out of nowhere. He is not affiliated with cosmetology so it was a bit shocking for the students to have to follow rules when he himself has not gone through cosmetology training. He is quite frankly aggressive with the students and the instructors. He is known for verbally abusing instructors, which is very unprofessional and hard to be around. Many if not all the cosmetology students do not feel comfortable around him. He does not respect the people around him or the students and if he does then he does a real bad job at showing it. All of the instructors are really supportive of their students. I have nothing bad to say as they have been very impactful in creating a solid base for our career. As for the program itself, I have learned everything I shouldn't. There is so much more that should have been added into the program. Especially for state board exams, it was hard to prepare for because we did not have the proper lessons throughout the year to fully grasp concepts. The program itself goes over pretty basic things, highlights, haircutting, color, men's haircuts, and some chemical services. I wish that there was more guidance on how to be successful in performing these services. They give us a demo and then get sent off to do it ourselves. We got minimal feedback on how to be better and without feedback we did not know what to do to be better. This review is getting pretty long so I will wrap things up even though there is a lot more I want to say. Will I recommend this program to aspiring cosmetologists? My honest answer would be no, but on the other hand, this program is one of the cheapest and easiest to afford. If you truly want to make a career as a cosmetologist, then go for it. But please consider what I said. It is not as glamorous as it seems and it takes a toll on people's mental health and it will drain you. If you want to go through with this program please just be patient and do what you can, you can do it! Thank you for reading my review!

I…read morecan't speak for all the programs, but I am very disappointed with the Cosmetology and Aesthetics vocational programs that are currently supported by with the state. It just feels like they have added teachers and classes due to demand, but the training is sub par and they don't even have enough classrooms to accommodate all the enrolled students. I wholeheartedly support vocational schools and charters, but in my opinion these programs are currently not providing the instruction or hands-on skills students will need to be successful in the areas my child/children were enrolled. I would look elsewhere and avoid them waiting 2 years only to have to enter a school that requires tuition in the end anyways. I also think it's luck of the draw with teachers. Some are better than others... Our 2025 experience was very poor and when your students are spending more time watching HULU, Netflix, and movies than receiving instruction I believe it's a waste of time. I also hear that the State of Arizona pays EVIT ~$8k per student and they get paid for the full year as long as the student is still enrolled on 9/30. They may be more apt to listen to your concerns and make it appear they are working to address concerns up until that date, but after that they really don't care because their received their funding for the year. My recommendation is do your own homework and talk to your students. There appear to be some good options out there and new schools popping up out there to address the need that don't come with a huge price tag that may be better for preparing learners to actually entering the workforce.

The teachers couldn't care less about you and what may be going on in your life. All that school cares about is grades and how well you're doing work. The classes are an hour and half long and you are CONSTANTLY doing stuff the entire hour and a half. I wouldn't get home till 4:15 and was still doing homework for an hour after that. If you're not insanely intelligent might as well just give up because that's all you're good for at this school. Making my whole life about school made me lowkey insanely depressed and I hated my life because of that school.

And the bullying is not handled well. NOTHING is done to punish bullies besides a talking and maybe a day suspension for making someone feel unwanted. The targets of these bullies are usually the "weird" kids, which have no reason to be bullied. Of course no one has any reason to be a victim, but I have knowledge, as being one of the "weird" kids, that these people are some of the nicest there are. They are usually just sitting or walking to class when a popular girl/boy walks up and comments on their appearance or backpack. There's also an absurd amount of discrimination for a "non-discrimination" school. While the teachers seem to mind their business, the students who discriminate other students for being different aren't handled.

Graduated from Perry in 2019 and now my little cousins go here. They have been telling me how bad…read morethe bullying had gotten since I left. My little cousins are getting called racial slurs and even to the point of being physically abused. We went to the front administration and they pretty much said don't worry we will take care of it and that was it. Fast forward a few months now my cousin is coming home with headaches because kids at Perry decided it was a good idea to throw rocks and other objects at my cousin. This crossed the line. Perry high only did anything to this bully ( Henry Whitt ) because we got police involved now. Shame on you Perry high. This is suppose to be a safe environment where our kids can come and learn but no. This place has turned to a nightmare for many kids that dread going to school because of all the bully's. I guess perry high supports bullying on their campus now..... such a shame. Don't send your kids here unless you want them to go through the same thing.
