This is an awesome place to come for Mexican eats. It is located in an old meat district turned outdoor food court in Copenhagen. Authentic style Mexican food. It's sort of a famous place to have tacos. The main restaurant is noted in a magazine "The Worlds 50 Best". There is basically no indoor seating at this site. Only outdoor seating in a small area. I wanted to go to the sit down restaurant but didn't make a reservation so I came to this location as I still wanted to support and try the food and it didn't disappoint. This was probably the best restaurant we had in Copenhagen. The restaurant itself is basic with no frills. A couple of small ledge tables for dining in and a tented patio outside. For food I got the Al Pastor and Barbacoa tacos. Both were quite good but I preferred the Barbacoa. The quality of the meat was very evident and each taco had the perfect ratio of meat to tortilla. My only gripe with this place was the price. The tacos cost 2-3x what you would pay in Chicago (where the establishment is inspired from) also, they charged for each salsa which was disappointing given the local taqueria feel they are going for...especially with the tacos priced the way they are! read more

We were very interested in checking this out while in Copenhagen from Southern CA. The owner was great and Veggie taco was very good and interesting take on a street taco. The other two tacos were a bit dry and lacking in flavor but still it was nice to have some tacos. Biggest negative was the cost of $50 for 6 street tacos and a handful of chips and two drinks (no alcohol). After being in Europe since August 21, I had a serious craving for Mexican food. When I landed in Copenhagen, I immediately sought a restaurant for my craving and came across Hija de Sanchez. Walking there from my hotel, I was met by a much smaller restaurant than I expected. If I had done more research other than looking at the food, I would have realized this is a mostly-take-out restaurant. Although there is some limited inside and outside seating(one table to seat ~4 inside, several small tables for 2 outside), it is not the sit-down restaurant I was expecting. But, considering it was nowhere near Mexico, it was quite good. I ordered the taco combo, along with a side of beans and rice. As someone used to eating a LOT of Tex-Mex in the States, I noticed immediately that the tacos and side needed hot sauce. Although there was some spice, there wasn't enough to make it taste more authentic. Given, can I blame them for not having them spicier? No, but it would be nice if they had a hot sauce that I could add on- whether it be Cholula or just plain Tabasco. Besides the lack of spice, they were pretty good. All three were pretty flavorful (although not extremely). However, the tortillas were tasty using any standard. BUT (and this is a big but), they are obscenely expensive. There is a lot of bad Mexican food in Europe. Having eaten my fair share of stale tortilla chips out of a bag and ketchup based salsa, I was pretty skeptical of Hija de Sanchez. However, if David Chang says its good, we figured it was worth a shot. Happily, we weren't disappointed. We ordered the taco combo, so got to try all three on offer that day. The al pastor and fried fish but surprisingly, the vegetarian "raja" was my favorite. It was more tostada than taco and had great flavor combos from the green chilies, fresh corn, and mound of finely grated cheese. We also had the rice and beans, and a pineapple juice drink. In hindsight, I wish I had ordered a margarita -- I saw someone else get one and had total order envy! Sadly, they were not offering chips and salsa during our visit. But, they did have one of their famous "palletas" (popsicles for all your gringos) on offer. We shared one avacado pop. It came beautifully presented on a plate, drizzled with dulce de leche and freeze-dried fruit (raspberry, maybe?) bits. It was tasty and instagramable. Win-win! I did not come to Copenhagen expecting to have some pretty amazing Mexican food! As other have mentioned I have had my fair share of terrible Mexican food in Europe. However, upon doing some research I discovered that this little gem was found by Latina woman whose worked at the Noma. Upon entering the restaurant I felt transported to somewhere far away from Copenhagen. The staff was Latinx and they were playing music is Spanish. I could see the al pastor and smell all the spices in the air! I had one al pastor and one cabbage. The al pastor was delicious and everything I needed. The tacos at Hija de Sanchez are very good, but I admit it's a bit overrated. The owner/chef is the former pastry chef of Noma, hence all the hype. Their original location at Torvehallerne's food market is only open during the spring and summer and the meat packing district is their second outlet. Once my husband and I located the taco stand in the meat packing district we placed our order at the counter. We both ordered the combo plate which included three soft tacos for 100 Danish Krone (about $15). The menu is seasonal and changes daily. The selection during our visit was the Pastor (shredded pork), cheese and avocado, and the fried chicken taco. I could have skipped the cheese and avocado taco as well as the fried chicken taco. The Pastor taco on the other hand was amazing and I wish I had ordered all three Pastor tacos on my combo plate. The tender pork and freshly grilled corn tortilla scream authentic Mexican taco. This is the taco that Hija de Sanchez excels at. While I truly believe these are the best tacos in Copenhagen I am a bit surprised Hija de Sanchez was voted as one of the world's top 50 restaurants. I don't mind the casual setting or eating with paper napkins on outdoor patio furniture. I do mind paying $15 for three tiny tacos. One of the best Al Pastor tacos I've had. It's a cute shop in an area with lots of cute restaurants. No restrooms or indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating. The Al Pastor is 35 DKK and the Carne Asada is 40 DKK. We also had a side of the Beans and Rice for 50 DKK. Our favorite was the Al Pastor; it was so good you don't need the Jalapeno and Habanero sauces. The Carne Asada was a bit dry. The refried beans and rice were fine. This Hija de Sanchez is located in the Meat District and surrounded by loads of other great restaurants. This fact may be of significant importance if you've a large appetite. My girlfriend and I actually passed by this spot and I went into the Indian restaurant next door to ask where it was. Haha. Indoors is quite cozy. There is outdoors seating. They have drinks on tap. It's quite beautiful, the drinks on tap. Although, they didn't have horchata both days I went. I got jarritos soda instead. The tacos! They are abso-fricking-lutely delicious. A few drawbacks are: they don't double the tortilla, which makes eating by hand super messy and it isn't filling because they are incredibly teeny tiny. Like damn, I can't finish three normal tacos, but I was left wanting more after having just eaten three of the tacos from here. Good and bad because you can try all flavors without filling up, but if you want that satisfied feeling, I gotta say you aren't going to get it here unless you order like eighty tacos. So on my way to Russia for the World Cup in June, I got the chance to first visit Copenhagen. This had been on my bucket list for many years, as I have always wanted to eat at the "best restaurant in the world", Noma. Well, come to find out, the window I'm there is the two week window they are closed in between seasons. They must have been out foraging. Well, when you can't go to Noma, you can go to a restaurant opened and run by a Noma alum. Hija de Sanchez, for those who are unaware, is the idea of Rosio Sanchez, a Mexican-American from the South side of Chicago, who has worked at some who's who of kitchens in the Michelin guides. Her biggest claim to fame was under the tutelage of Rene Redzepi, as the pastry chef of Noma. Her idea was to make authentic Mexican tacos (with imported ingredients from Oaxaca) in Copenhagen, but with some infused local flavors. This location is in the meatpacking district, which we completely ran into by accident, just wandering around the streets. I'm so glad we did. Not only did we find Hija de Sanchez, but we also found some other really cool stuff. This district was like a U shaped strip mall, full of bars and restaurants. Super cool concept, and mostly different types of food, so you didn't have much repetition. Right across the way was Warpigs brewpub (my next review), which was super cool and fun, with the best name of a beer on tap I think I have ever seen. Anyhow, back to Hija. We walk in to the tiny shop, and of course it's crowded. Not only local fame has given it much popularity, but the numerous write ups and TV appearances as well. I first heard about it by watching David Chang's "Ugly Delicious". I believe it was the second episode. Glancing at the menu (small), of course we opted for the try all three tacos option, which included an al pastor, a carne asada, and a zucchini taco. The ordering was simple, and they came out pretty quick. They came out on the simplest of paper plates, I think the cheapest ones made on Earth, and we went outside to eat with the other hundred people outside sitting in a communal seating area. The truth is we had already eaten not too long before this, but when seeing Hija, we had to have it. I wasn't about to come all the way back home to Hawaii and regret not having tried Hijas while I was there, full or not. Going there on a empty or even half empty stomach- you will not get full. You will not get full unless you want to spend about $25 on tacos. Three tacos here is around $11, and it just tickles and teases your stomach. I would say for the price, it's not a horrible deal. This is Copenhagen (most expensive city I've ever been to), the ingredients are supposedly scratch made from imported materials, and the chef/owner is famous. Could have been worse. However, I must say could have also been a little bit better. For not much more, they could have ditched the ghetto paper plate to something a little more presentable, even if it's take out. And for the love of God, proper "street" tacos require TWO tortillas! I can't believe this should even be an issue. It should just be a given. This was surprising and disappointing, especially because it wouldn't cost much more to double layer it. I am now regretting not checking other people's reviews before eating, or I would have definitely ordered the dessert too, as they look interesting, and possibly delicious. If and when I'm in Copenhagen again, I will be back to try again. Hopefully I will also have better timing as well, and be able to experience and review Noma while I'm at it. I first saw Hija de Sanchez at Torvehallerne, a small stall that sells tortillas, Mexican sodas and other products. Very recently they opened a location at Kødbyen (Meatpacking District) and together with other businesses are turning this place more and more interesting. The vibe of this small restaurant is casual. You come and order at the cashier, they have a range of tacos, flautas, quesadillas and paletas. We came for lunch and had the combo, three tacos for 100 DK -- very reasonable. I also ordered a side of totopos with salsa caseira (although I wish they would have guacamole as an option here) and água de jamaica (hibiscus tea). My three tacos were: Lengua (Caramelized beef tongue, Coriander, Onion, jalapeño salsa), Pastor (Marinated roasted pork, Grilled pinapple, Cilantro, Onion salsa), Fish (Crispy cod skin, Jalapeno tomato salsa). To be honest I didn't taste the pineapple on the pastor taco, and thought the jalapeño salsa + coriander kind of stole the entire flavor. Soooo good, OMG! I had been following Rocio, the chef, on social media for some time and have known her story. I know she gets some ingredients from Mexico and some locally from Copenhagen. First of all, being Mexican.... this place is so legit. It was nice to have real Mexican food in Copenhagen! I had the quesadilla, michelada, chips and guacamole, tacos with beefand the spicy salsa. The salsa was totallt very spicy, which I loved! Everything was just awesome, the service, the taste, and atmosphere. It's a little place with devious Mexican food and drinks! We tried two of the tacos. They are street tacos (to me). A very tasty freshly made corn tortilla! The pork was so good. I loved the pineapple and the pico. The carne asada was tender and moist. The margaritas made us so happy. It erased like a margarita I had on a beach. Ah the hype and love this place got, from being featured on "Ugly Delicious" to the head chef and owner's most excellent background (Noma anyone?). I was really looking forward to trying easy authentic Mexican street grub in a city esteemed for foodie taste. Yeah, No. I'll start with ordering - not exactly friendly and insisting I pay via credit only since they'll close in 45minutes - not really street but ok. I ordered the raja tostadas. Yeah, No. If I wanted LaLa creama and cheese on a greasy fried tortilla I would've done that hot mess on my own. Are the meat tacos better? Maybe but I didn't try them. How about the salsa? Yeah, No. I think Taco Bell Fire salsa might've been better. I think perhaps it's hard to come by the right ingredients and substitutions are necessary, but it seems to be a point of pride everything was imported from Oaxaca. I could be mistaken on this but if I'm not...Yeah, No. I'm from the neighboring state Guerrero, have spent plenty of time in Oaxaca and this stuff could've been bought for a lot less. Maybe imported from San Antonio, TX. While previous reviews have said this is the best one could expect in Europe, Yeah...No. It wouldn't be fair to compare Hija de Sanchez to any place in Texas, Cali, or Mexico. I travel extensively for work, especially in Europe, and this is nowhere near top 20. Easily hands down is La Taquería in Belfast. I tried it, absolutely love it, and had to come back with friends to check myself. This is a great location, I'm sure it will continue to improve and hopefully have much continued success. Originally launched in 2015 at the Market, her following growing quickly thanks to handmade Tortillas and Salsas plus Tacos made in the traditional Mexican fashion with occasional local influences such as Fish Skin or Fjord Shrimp creeping in, it was as part of a midday snack that a stop was made at the second location where several locals were enjoying the late-day rays of Danish Summer, the online menu unfortunately a bit deceiving in that it lists nearly a dozen Proteins even though only two are offered each day, the Paletas a similar situation with Thursday only featuring one, the prices also quite high with a total bill of 185DKK (nearly $30USD) for a total of four items. Targeted to be both approachable and authentic, a visit to Kiin-Kiin showing that 'spicy' is definitely a relative term in Denmark, it was with a seat taken near a small Piñata that a few minutes were passed before the order was ready, first bites of the Beef Tongue with Guacachile, raw Onion and Cilantro showing the meat to be tender but not particularly flavorful on a great shell, the Al Pastor shaved from a small spit by far and away the spiciest thing tasted in Scandinavia and on par with anything tasted in Mexico with a juicy chunk of charred Pineapple helping to quell the fire. Chucking at a sign teaching locals how to eat a taco as the finishing touches were applied to three Flautas, the thick Corn taking well to a flash frying and coming out crisp without a drop of residual oil, Sanchez and team again showed a good hand with Beef by way of spicy Barbacoa and Black Beans stuffed into three tubes topped with diced Cabbage and Fresh Cheese, the Popsicle taken to go described as Salted Licorice but fairly mild in terms of Ansie flavors with the overall balance more like White Chocolate with a texture and sweetness added by dehydrated Fruit on top. read more

I was closer to the sit-down joint in the slaughterhouse district than the kiosk that is further away. I went right for the 3 taco combo. Today's catch (literally) was the fried fish, queso fresco, and al pastor taco. I washed that all down with a badass tepache water. The tacos were outstanding and extremely fresh. This being my first official meal in Denmark - I had to try a variety of other things from the menu. I ordered an extra al pastor taco, chilaquiles, an agua de jamaica (hibiscus), and the mini-churros. That certainly it the spot on all fronts. Since Sanchez crew are all native Spanish speakers it was awesome to carry on a conversation while they were making tacos and I was eating them. This being Denmark - everything is expensive - food being no different, so plan accordingly. All of the ingredients are fresh and most are actually imported from Oaxaca. I think that our expectations going in were pretty high to begin with, being that the chef is an alum of Noma, but we were not let down. We ordered the combo deals which allowed us to try all three tacos available on the menu that day: carnitas, al pastor, and queso fresco. All were very flavorful and delicious. I would have loved to have one of each in a burrito form just so that I would have more than 3 or 4 bites of each. The general high cost of eating out in Scandinavia also makes you rethink ordering a second or third round of tacos, but I'd say they are worth it. The space here is very small and cramped with seating for about 10 or less. So being a native Californian who lives in an area with a heavy Mexican population, I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob. I know what's legit, and I know what I like. As a rule, I generally don't eat Mexican food in Europe because it ALWAYS disappoints. But I read about Hija de Sanchez and was intrigued by the story. I walked by a couple of the locations and would smell the corn tortilla masa cooking. I had to stop...I had to break my own rule. I ordered two tacos: an al pastor and a carne asada. The al pastor was really, really good. The pineapple was slightly dehydrated (I don't know if that was intentional or not) but it delivered a great, concentrated flavor without becoming chewy. The carne asada was also good...different, but good. There was a smidgen of some kind of sauce with it...but it worked. Both tacos were good-to-great. Hija de Sanchez - already one of my favorite taco shop's from another location in Torvehallerne - has opened a taco shop in Kødbyen (Meatpacking) The quality is the same, and so is the set up - rotating menu of taco's. and tasty lemonades. Very authentic and delicious. read more

The chef works there everyday with her staff, what more can I say! This shows the love and care that goes into the food. As I wait in line to order, I don't mind because I can watch them hand make the tortillas, and give 100% of their attention to every taco. Lastly, just a shout out to Noma for developing the food scene in Copenhagen, especially this chef and her beautiful flavors! read more

Minimalist space and menu, perfect for a quick bite. The tacos are out of this world good. Pastor is best I've had ever. The tacos were amazing as well. Avocado popsicle is a must try as well. Loved this. read more
