We have come here for years. There is something for everyone no matter the age. The camp is so clean. The bathrooms are extremely clean, the private showers are good sized with hot water and great water pressure. The pool temp is amazing! I love their dog trail, even lights up at night! Every campsite is descent size so you're not right on top of each other. The amenities are incredible, so many things to do!! The owner, Don, is so nice and fun to talk to. Don needs to retire. He is ruining the business for whomever is taking over. We were incredibly disappointed by our experience at this campground. Our group--made up of eight families--was on our much-anticipated annual trip, which always includes a fun themed progressive dinner. This year's theme was "Favorite City." We chose this campground specifically because it's marketed as family-friendly, and we thought it would be the perfect fit. We arrived Thursday, and by Friday afternoon the first families were setting up their meals. Around 8:20 PM Friday, with all eight families present, most of us--including the kids--were participating in a fun group dance to the YMCA when two golf carts pulled up and surrounded the site we were on. A man stepped off one cart and immediately got in my husband's face--yelling to "shut it down or leave the campground." My husband is a big guy, and this man was clearly trying to assert control in an aggressive way. When my female friend calmly stated that it was her site, the man instantly turned on her, stepping into her personal space and waving his walkie-talkie antenna in her face. He then loudly declared that he was the owner and that he "wasn't going to put up with this"--all while children stood nearby, visibly confused and frightened. We were all in shock. There had been no previous warning or respectful request--just immediate, hostile confrontation. We turned the music off immediately and went completely silent, yet the owner continued to berate us and warned that we were being watched from his house on the hill. The entire energy of the trip shifted. What should have been a joyful, kid-friendly evening became tense and upsetting. The children were scared, and the adults were shaken. It completely ruined the vibe of a trip we'd all been looking forward to for a year. I can understand needing to manage noise levels or enforce rules, but this was not the way to do it. There was nothing unsafe, inappropriate, or disrespectful happening at the time--just families dancing and enjoying each other's company before quiet hours. We won't be returning, and we hope others think carefully before bringing their families here. read more

Don the owner is super aggressive and has anger issues. Extremely confrontational and swore at our group in front of our kids at 8pm. The next day we were confronted by his daughter and asked us not to have our kids go to AJ's because there was complaints and they just want us to leave. Then she tried to bring our group with AJ passes to take our horrible review down on other sites. We asked what rule or rules we broke and they could not tell us. They also told us to leave early and they would refund the remaining days that we had already reserved. They obviously have issues with us. Do not stay here if you want to have fun. read more

The staff in the office is rude and does not know anything about customer services. I spoke to Dee the owner. They added on a new booking fee then lied when asked about it stating "we've always had it". Not true as we have been there for the last 3 years. Not once did they apologize for not notifying me nor was it on the website or discussed when I booked the campsite. When we checked out I also told her that our sewer had an odor with our full hookup. She did say we should have told her and that someone must have run over it. I told her that it may have a small crack in the trap. She actually rolled her eyes at me! The woman sitting next to her was jumping in also making comments that were not helpful. The water there also has a strong odor and is yellow. They are aware of it and still have not fixed it. We even had a filter on our trailer and it was so bad that didn't even help. read more

This place is terrific. It's clean, shady, spacious, and friendly. The pool is big and clean. The bathrooms are very well maintained. We have already decided to come back next year and maybe every year. The sites are cleaned and ready, including the fire ring, for the next camper within minutes of departure. Clean bathroom and clean shower are really nice! and keeps my family wanting to come back (compared to typical smelly bathroom and no so clean showers you find...) Camp check-in and store staff are very friendly, helpful, and always welcoming too. They've recently expanded the camp sites and lost its quiet feel of the past however. Their tent sites were really quiet and peaceful with so many mature trees, but lost that "feel" after the expansion. So many cars and campers now. read more

We've been here many times and keep coming back. We like to camp off season - early May, early October. Their rates are discounted and the campgrounds are quiet. They continue to update the facilities - fresh paint and counters in the bathrooms, new tile in the shower rooms. The office staff are pleasant and helpful. A good portion of the campground is dedicated to seasonal campers, but I never feel like and "outsider" here. Overall, this is a great place to camp. read more

Great place! I completely disagree with the other posted review. This place was great. It's very family friendly. The staff was professional, not rude. They had a shop, cafe, go karts, mini golf, and pool. They had the absolute cleanest bathrooms and showers I've ever seen camping. Not 1 bug or trash on floor, never a line for waiting, staff are constantly washing, cleaning, mopping in there. There are recycling facilities. We arrived late in evening and other campers offered to help us set up. There is quiet time at 11pm. Maybe the other reviewer didn't follow that rule. The only one negative was our campsite was very sandy, with little grass. We Constantly dragged sand/dirt into tents. We would would definitely go back! read more

We are just back from our first stay at Hill and Hollow. What a nice place! I was a little nervous due to a few negative reviews I had read but hoped they were written by the obnoxiously loud types that often keep you up during the night. I think I was right. We had a fantastic time. The camp ground does have quiet hours from 11pm to 8am and let me tell you, it was quiet. However we had no issues hanging around our fire having some cocktails in the evening after 11pm. It's just a matter of being respectful. This is not the place for a bunch of rowdy college kids. Hill and Hollow is very family friendly and kept immaculate. I've never seen bathroom and shower facilities so updated and clean at a camp ground before. The place is woodsy and somewhat hilly which made it fun for our boys (9 and 11) while riding their bikes. There are some trails through some wooded hills that are situated in the middle of the camp ground that they enjoyed riding. The sites are much more spacious than other places we've been. There are plenty of trees for shade, hammocks and clothes lines on all the sites. Each site has a basic fire pit and wood is sold at the camp store for $5 a bundle. They have a wagon you can use to haul it back to your site. If you like to grill over your fire you'll want to bring a rack. We arrived on a Friday to find the place was fairly busy. There were lots of kids riding bikes and people out walking. The (very large) pool was kept nice and warm and was also very clean. As busy as things appeared we had no problem finding chairs at the pool. Even when the pool appeared really busy it's so large there's plenty of room for everyone. And if you're like me and just want to relax in the pool without kids spashing and bouncing off you there's plenty of room. We also had no wait for showers or restrooms throughout our stay. The last few days (Monday-Wednesday) were much quieter around the grounds which we expected would be the case. Even the seasonal people around our site buttoned up and left. The weather had cooled off significantly to highs around 62-65 degrees. The pool felt like bath water so the kids still had plenty of fun. AJ's was a nice treat. We rode the track every night with the kids. The putt putt course is awesome. It's weaved through a hilly wooded area and has a man made stream and waterfalls throughout. It was probably the prettiest and most challenging putt putt course I've ever seen. There's an ice cream parlor in AJ's that we enjoyed each night. We were at camp site 144 which was close to AJ's, the park and the restrooms. We were one of the few tent campers in that area which was full of nice RV's and what seemed like numerous seasonal campers. The seasonal folks were all very friendly as was the staff. It was nice to have electric and water available. After exploring the grounds I think we'll stay over at 169-173 site next year. Those sites which are tent only back up to the trails that our boys enjoyed and also sit back in the woods a little more. They're still plenty close to the pool and restrooms. and have electric but no water. Our last day we were the sole campers in our area. There was some welding work being done behind AJ's. We could hear and see it but never felt it was a disruption to our day in any way. In the afternoon the gentleman that was working there walked over to our site and gave us free passes for the go-carts and putt putt for all 5 of us as an apology for making noise. We didn't feel it was necessary since the noise wasn't bad at all but it was still a very nice treat to finish up our trip. Hill and Hollow, we'll definitely be returning next summer! We just got back from a wonderful week at this campground. We were in the new loop. Full hook ups. What we really enjoyed was that the RV park had a great State Park feel to it with all the amenities of a full RV park. Wooded and super clean! The bath/shower building was immaculate. All day. Some nice extras - the pool. Wow was it nice to walk to the pool after a round of golf. The park is gated and you need a code to get in. While some ranked the following as a negative I was quite pleased that visitors needed to pay a $5 per person fee to enter per day. This keeps the great pool and facilities available to paid campers. The staff we interacted with were lovely. I did see reports to the negative. I guess since we are happy (quiet) campers who don't party like rock stars from the 60's we didn't need any talking to. That said - we found the campground quiet and nice. The kids enjoyed the go carts and put put golf. The campground is about 2 miles from downtown Pentwater and so just minutes from Mears State Park's beach. A few nice golf courses too. read more

Came here specifically because they had WiFi. I was told that it was spotty in areas so I asked to be placed on the closest site to the WiFi signal because I needed it for work and that I couldn't stay without WiFi. I paid for 1 night and verified the internet worked at that site. Paid for 2 more nights stating I was only doing that because the WiFi was working on my site and I had to have it. The next day the WiFi went dead during my meeting. We inquired at the office and the staff was very rude. We were told it could be days before service would be restored. We were told to come sit next to the store to get a better signal. Not at all convenient when you have several pieces of equipment needed to work and a dog to tag along. Told me I could go to the library. Again, I needed to remind them I had a dog and that I only reserved the 2 extra nights because the WiFi was working. They acknowledged that we had that conversation when I checked in. We even paid extra for full hookup to be closer to the signal when we only needed electric. They refused to refund any money and said there were no better sites that were closer to the signal. We will not be returning to this campground. The office workers, one in particular, were very rude and could care less that I needed to work even though WiFi was my requirement when I checked in. Just shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. Customer service failure! read more

This is a well-run campground and what you hope a local small businesses should be like. We appreciate the quiet hours as tent campers, and are pleased that they enforce the rules to keep it a nice campground. The bathrooms and showers are cleaned multiple times a day and the little café is always good for breakfast. This is my third year and I have no reason to look for a new campground. read more

The staff is friendly and the campsites are spacious. I would highly recommend to any family looking for a campground to offer quality family time. Visited Hill and Hollow for the first time Summer of 2014 the weekend of Pentwaters Homecoming festival. Booked one of the last 2 sites. With the campground 100% booked it never felt that way. Restrooms were always clean. Campground was clean and quiet. We are tent campers and found their tent sites to be the best we've ever used. The sites were covered in a carpet of wood chips that made the ground soft and level. Liked it so much we convinced our family to move our annual camping trip there. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They even brought out a skid loader with a ball on the bucket to help our neighbors get their camper into a tight site. Very nice campground. Friendly staff with a decent camp store. There is a small cafe that serves breakfast and lunch, though I can't say if it's any good. There is an AJs family fun park attached to the campground which is great when you're using it, but the go kart noises are not amusing when you're in your campsite. I've been camping my entire life and this place has THE CLEANEST BATHROOMS AND SHOWERS I HAVE EVER SEEN. On memorial weekend even! read more

For those that had a great time I'd just say that you didn't have the need to address any issues with the folks that own the place OR been in line when you've heard them make awful comments about other campers. This campground had TERRIBLE customer service. The owner of the campground disliked us from the beginning just because we had a large group of people. We were kicked out on the first night because we were being "too loud" around our fire when there was a group a couple campers down who were drinking beer and hooting and hollering and throwing their beer cans in a pile who were never talked to. They were unreasonable and wouldn't even hear our side of the story and we weren't refunded for the next couple nights we were supposed to stay there. We were told by our neighbor campers that they couldn't even hear us. They also told us that the seasonal campers run the place. read more

My family and I really enjoyed this camp ground. We have one small child and there was plenty for him to do ((putt putt, race carts, nice playground, basketball...etc)). The park was packed when we got there but there wasn't too much traffic from cars driving in and out like we thought there would be. We never experienced any problems with the security. My family and I would sit at the campfire and quietly talk and enjoy a beer past 11 and as long as we were respectful and quiet, there were no issues. I have camped at Hill and Hollow for many years and keep coming back. The campground is well run and has a very friendly atmosphere. The facilities are cleaned several times a day and are always kept in good repair. It is a family friendly campground, I have two dogs and they make me feel welcome each time I come. The campground stores has just what you need and the recreation games are always working properly. The miniature golf course is kept in tip top shape. The rules are fair and enforced and I love that. I am happy to take part in a campground that takes pride in doing it right. If you are looking for a great well run, very clean and fun campground, then this is the place. Two Pools, Store, Cafe, Ice Cream, Mini Golf, Arcade, Go Carts, Basketball Courts, Horseshoes, Volley Ball, Ping Pong, Fire Pits, Very Clean and Oh Yeah they spray for bugs. It was a shame that we had the experience we had because we loved the campground the first night we were there (minus the toilets not working and the septic tank needing to be cleaned out and having to smell it all evening). We were already talking about coming back. Unfortunately our feelings changed when the owner double booked my friends site, though we had booked three sites two months prior. Apparently there is some unwritten rule that if you do not immediately put your tent up upon your arrival, they will give your site to someone else, even if you have paid. The owner's were incredibly rude when we brought this up to them and we even offered to have our friend stay on one of the other two sites but explained that we would expect her to be refunded. The behavior of the owner, Dee, and her husband was so shocking and immature. The woman handled the issue like a five year old having a tantrum because she had to come from a birthday party down the road to 'take care of us'. She jumped out of her truck, stormed by my friend and I and threw her hand up in my face when I said "Sorry you had to leave your party". I get the feeling that this business relays on their seasonals to keep them in business and if you are anyone else you are a complete inconvenience. Will definitely not be returning and will let everyone I know that is thinking about visiting Pentwater to make sure they avoid this place at all costs. read more

I went to this campground with a group made up of four couples. We were instantly judged negatively because we are a group in our 20s with no children. We were told right away that we would be kicked out if we were trouble. Rules for the campground are strictly enforced when it suits the staff members and complainers. Rule states quiet time is 11:00-8:00. At 11 we were yelled at for talking around our campfire by a staff member, at 7:00 I was awoken by a child riding his bike around my campsite while ringing a bell - no staff member spoke with his parents. Another staff member came to scold us the next day during the afternoon because of being up past 11 that first night - other campers had complained that we were talking during quiet hours. Again we were told that we would be kicked out. So we minimized our time at camp as much as possible because the entire reason for this trip was spend time socializing with friends. The worst part is that our group was judged immediately and treated disrespectfully by the staff and other campers that were there with their children. Our group consisted of doctors, teachers, accountants, business men/women, all well educated and responsible. It's unfortunate that our vacation here was filled with anxiety that we would be kicked out, fear that other campers may vandalize our property, and lacked the socialization that we hoped for. I will absolutely never return to this campground and would strongly suggest others looking for a fun, relaxing vacation look elsewhere. read more
