When I arrived at the office the staff was great, they started the appointment on time, and the technology was much better than my previous and more well-known provider. I am a yearly patient and have been going once a year every June or July. This year I was scheduled in September. When I went to reschedule for next year, I was told there weren't any available appointments for the time I wanted until November. When I protested that I was regularly seen every June/July, and this time September. I told the receptionist that was not acceptable. First, June/July, then September, then next November? She explained to me that I could not return to June/July, because my insurance will only pay for 1 year and 1 day after my last appointment. She finally found an appointment in September 2020. What I don't understand is; if I'm a year to year patient, should not there have been a space available the next year? If I had accepted the November appointment, would my next one be the following December? Then, what after that? I also didn't appreciate her officious attitude. Dr. Hill and his staff are very competent. Dr. Hill has a good bed-side manner, and I like going to him. I just didn't like his front office staff. read more

I needed an emergency visit near my office due to an ulcer on my eye, and found Hill Vision Services. The visit itself was good, and the staff was generally professional at the beginning. However, things turned south fairly quickly as the appointment wrapped up. The doctor said he would call in a prescription, insisted that I come back three days later for a follow-up and that I should speak with one of his staff about a spray for my eyelids. When I met with this staff member, she showed me the spray and said it was priced at $40. I noticed that the spray had the letters "OTC" on the front of the box, and asked if the product could be purchased elsewhere. The staff member said, "This can only be purchased from an eye doctor at an eye doctor's office." I said, "So, OTC does not mean over the counter?" She repeated that, "This product can only be purchased from an eye doctor's office." This staff member called me honey and sweetie no less than 5 times in our one minute interaction as well, in what felt like a pressured sales tactic in the doctor's office. I took paperwork on the spray, declined to buy it, and looked it up upon leaving the office. I found it is, in fact, over the counter, and available at places other than the eye doctor's office. Additionally, when I went to pick up my prescription, I found that the doctor had only approved the name brand eye drops which required a special order from the pharmacy and would be considerably more expensive than the generic. I called Hill Vision Services and was told that the generic is just fine and they would send the prescription back in allowing for the generic. Because of how long I had been gone from work at this point, I asked them to call it into the pharmacy closer to my home instead of my office, and they agreed. I checked with my pharmacy roughly an hour later, and no prescription had been called in to there, so I contacted Hill Vision Services again. They said they had not yet called it in but would momentarily. They said that they did update the prescription at the previous pharmacy to allow the generic, but had not called into the new pharmacy as requested. I was finally able to pick up my prescription roughly four hours after my visit was completed. To be clear, my primary concern is the pressured sales techniques used for OTC medications recommended by the doctor. I have zero reason to trust a healthcare facility that is trying to up-sell me on products sold by their office. I will not be attending my follow-up with Hill, and will instead take time off of work to follow up with my usual doctor near my home, as I can trust that provider. I am truly disappointed in the services rendered by Hill Vision Services. read more

My family uses HVS for our eye care. Both our standard exams and problems. We are always able to get an appointment quickly and be seen promptly. They have been very great with my wife who needs more eye care than myself. Recently they were able to quickly resolve significant pain and vision problems she was having. My experience with Hill Vision was wonderful! I was able to make an appointment and get in the same day without a problem. I had a cut on my eye that made my day unbearable and needed to get it look right away. Dr. Blankenship was so nice and helpful and was great at explaining what had happened to my eye. The appointment only lasted around 10 minutes and then I was on with my day. There wasn't much to do for the little cut on my eye but Dr. Blankenship assured me that it would be healed in a day and just gave me some eye drops to keep my eye hydrated. By the next day my eye felt completely normal. I would recommend anyone to go here! read more

Having just moved to Glen Carbon, I started having pain, burning and blurry vision in my eyes, which overnight turned into constant agonizing burning, eye spams, pain, swollen eyes and inability to even open my eyes. I told my husband to start calling local ophthalmologists first thing in the morning as I was concerned something was gravely wrong with my eyes. My husband happened to call Hill Vision and explained the dire situation and asked if they could squeeze me in for an emergency appointment. They said to come in right away and they would see me My husband got me there about 9:30 AM, and it was clear I was in agonizing pain - still couldn't open my eyes and the pain was almost unbearable and constant. After having my husband fill out paperwork, they said they would take me back right away. After about 30 minutes in the waiting room, they took me back and one of the nurse/assistants did the initial exam. She was kind and empathetic and saw how much agony I was in. She said Dr. Geoffrey Hill would be in right away and was giving me eye numbing drops every few minutes. Well, an hour and 20 minutes went by before the doctor came, despite the staff telling him multiple times how much pain I was in and how much I really needed to see him. I also sat there terrified that something was gravely wrong with my vision that would have benefited from quick attention (we just didn't know what was happening). He continued to do routine cataract follow up appointments, and I sat in unbearable pain waiting for 80 more minutes. He finally came in and saw how much pain I was in and started the exam. He did about 10 minutes of an exam, put in dilating drop and said he would be back in 10 minutes to finish the exam after the drops worked. 30 minutes later (still in excruciating pain), he wasn't back. My husband walked into the hallway and found him having a conversation about Halloween with another staff member. Then he came back in and finished the exam. While physicians certainly do not have to accept emergency appointments from new patients (we were grateful they were initially willing to take us right away), there needs to be better procedures at the office to triage those emergency cases and some compassion for the emergency situations. If they would have said come on it, he'll see you in a few hours, we would have went somewhere else. My total time with the doctor was only about 15-20 minutes, so certainly not something that would have ruined the whole day's schedule. read more

I had a great experience from time in to time out, the faculty and staff had an outstanding work ethic and help you step by step and explain to you every bit of work and will answer any questions you have, the staff as same as the Doctors at Hill Vision Services really do go out of their way to make sure your experience and your visit is awesome, I recommend this Ophthalmic/Optometrist practice to everyone I know. Unfortunately, my personal experience with Hill Vision Services was not good from start to finish... I was referred to an ophthalmologist by my PCP for further testing, because I had a condition that was not relieved by antibiotic. I have to say it was relatively easy to schedule an appointment with Hill Vision, so I went with them. I have perfect vision, so I did not have any experience going to eye doctors before. I had to pay a $40 copay for the visit, which is standard for seeing the specialist, so I had to be ok with it. After all, I needed to have my condition resolved. I was happy to get a thorough eye exam, although as I indicated that was not the primary purpose of my visit. I did not feel my main problem was taken seriously enough though. I was told to go back home, try some dry eyes drops, come back in two weeks... Although it did not sound right to me I left... The drops did not help a bit. I was hesitant about going back, because of copay costs and the treatment I received, but I decided to go. Again I was almost sent home right away, until I asked to do some kind of testing to get down to the reason of inflammation in my eye. I was told that there was none available and that I should just stick with the drops. Obviously, I was not satisfied. Then I was given a steroid medication to try, I guess to make me feel that something was being done. Then I came home and out of despair started doing my own research to find answers to my questions. To make things worse I found out that in certain situations (which would be ruled out by testing) the steroids could make my condition worse. I could not brace myself to go ahead with it. When they called me to confirm my next (would have been third!) appointment, I just said I would not be coming. They started asking me why. I explained very politely. Then the manager called me and, I still can not believe, tried to insist that I have to come back, put me down, saying that I was not compliant, that they will document my chart, being very confrontational and not pleasant. Update: My doctor called me back personally. I was thankful for the call and attention, but I can not afford going every couple of weeks for the follow-ups, so I won't be going back at this time. read more
