I hope the citizens of Cleveland appreciate the engineering, art and history behind this beautiful bridge as much as I do. I've driven over this bridge many times, I've walked over this bridge, and I've even viewed this bridge from a distance on many occasions. Inspired by it's beauty, I've also done a little research on its history. A bond to finance Hope Memorial Bridge was passed in 1921, and construction was completed in 1932. It is a 4,490 foot long truss bridge crossing over the Cuyahoga River, in the heart of Cleveland, beautifully decorated in art-deco style. The bridge is adorned by "Guardians of Traffic" that are sculpted onto opposite-facing ends of two pairs of pylons, with a pair at each end of the viaduct. Each of the Guardians holds a different type of vehicle in his hands. If a traveler is going northeast along this bridge, the bridge allows for a breathtaking approach to Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians Major League Baseball (MLB) team. In 2021, the name for Cleveland's MLB team was chosen to be the Cleveland Guardians, which was inspired by the Guardians on this beautiful bridge. But words can only say so much. It was renamed after Harry Hope, a stonemason who worked on the statues (and Bob Hope's dad). I wanted to see the bridge because of its iconic figures, The Guardians of Transportation, who are sentries at each end of the bridge. There are a total of eight winged Art Deco statues, each holding a different vehicle. I like the idea of these protectors keeping watch over the bridge and keeping drivers safe.

I happened to be here on Memorial Day, and I wanted to pay my respects, so I headed here as it was a quick walk from my hotel. I went to the monument and saw signs that said it was open. Open? I then realized that there was a room at the base of the main statue, and I went to the door and walked in- I was not prepared for what I saw. While small, the amount of detail in the memorial was incredible. There are nearly 9,000 names of those who fought and supported the fight, to preserve the Union from Cuyahoga County inscribed on the walls. There are also several life-size relief panels depicting various events and moments during the Civil War. I highly suggest a visit to this monument, as it is incredible.

Very exciting to be in his neighborhood for a few hours. The neighboring stores and restaurants were a lot of fun to browse; especially the independent bookstore and a record shop that his cousin works at, fortunate find since he pointed us to the park. Parking across street or on street parking. Spend a few hours in this neighborhood and feel this great writer's space and muse. Thank you for making this dedicated space.

I remember The Flats of the 90s vs. now, big change. Though I loved The Flats back in the day too. Of course, the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame calls Cleveland home. I've been a few times for various events. Everyone should go at least once. Cleveland has great museums and galleries. Tiki bars, breweries, restaurants, and chic boutique stores. By luckily being in the path of totality for the Eclipse of 2024, you pulled it off. You managed to take what was going to be a nothing day and totally make it all worthwhile (throws beret or special 12312-2 glasses in the air). When I first heard about the eclipse a year ago, I had to pick my city and it came down to Carbondale, Indianapolis or Cleveland and I chose you. The light cloud cover changed nothing. The moon covered the sun and we saw the glowing white halo, and also some red spots - solar prominences. It was amazing that it was bright and warm and seconds later, dark and cold. I'm glad I picked you, Cleveland. You showed me a good time and I won't forget it!

One of the best presidential mausoleums around I suspect. My wife and I ubered 12 minutes from…read moredowntown to reach Lakeview Cemetery on a beautiful June Saturday morning. The grounds here are very well maintained with this memorial towering over everything else. The two volunteers working inside shared lots of the details of the place along with meanings of the different architectural features and works. The mosaic floors and alcoves were impressive but the 10 ton marble statue of Garfield is certainly the highlight. Centered in a circular room on the main floor, he is well lit above and surrounded by stain glass windows depicting the original colonies on all sides. The details in the statue itself are impressive right down to the laces of his shoes. Take the circular staircase up a level for a birds eye view. You can also sneak a good peak of the downtown Cleveland skyline in the distance. Head back down two levels to the crypt and see Garfield's flag draped coffin alongside his wife's. Admission is free but there is a donation box to help maintain things. Our visit lasted about 15 minutes and was well worth the walk from the Mayfield gate. Just follow the white line on the road to the left to reach it.

We liked that you can go outside on the upper level and have a nice view of downtown Cleveland and walk around the perimeter for views of the cemetery. Definitely worth a detour.

While strolling through Cleveland's Memorial Park (across from the Marriott), somewhere in the…read morevicinity of 1380 East Sixth Street, you will see this soaring statue of Abraham Lincoln standing tall. Sculptor Max Kalish designed the memorial and it was unveiled on Lincoln's birthday in 1932. President Lincoln is delivering the Gettysburg Address as he gazes upward. Check out the details in his hands -one is open as he gestures to the crowd and the other holds his copy of the speech's manuscript. The statue sits on a stone base with several engraved panels. One of the panels reads: Abraham Lincoln Statesman Patriot Beloved Citizen of the United States of America Sadly, three panels on the front of the base have deteriorated to the point of total illegibility. What a disgrace.

The Terminal Tower is 771 feet…read more People perch by the river valley in Tremont for pictures with the Cleveland skyline in the background. I encourage the reader to venture 10 miles south to Parma, OH and climb 500 feet in elevation to the highlands. There is a beautiful collection of television and radio towers there. Most are taller than the Key Tower and in my estimation it is a far more unique and interesting photo op. Wikipedia says that this grouping of towers is second only to Mount Wilson in LA. I stood at the foot of one of these hulking beasts today and almost lost my balance when I kept moving my neck to see the top. Maybe equilibrium was lost because of the tower transmissions burrowing a hole into my brain. I harken back to one of the greatest films of all time They Live by John Carpenter starring Roddy Piper. The mission of the protagonist was to stop radio towers from programming our population thereby destroying humanity. I am conflicted with the plot because I love these towers so much and would never want any harm done to them. Come check out the towers when you have a chance. Have you ever been to a place so magical, you felt like you may float away at any time..? If your answer is no, then you have never been to the Cleveland Antenna Farm. It is a breathtaking few acres of land containing giant magical steel structures that send out signals that travel to far far away places for little children and grown folk as well to watch tv, play on their phones/tablets/beepers(maybe)?/computers/etc.. Nearby houses love this place so much, they attach mini Antenna to the roofs of their homes in attempts to bring some of the magic even closer to home. I bet by next year the word spreads and theres an entrance fee to this place. I imagine it to be something similar to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Very mind blowing! All this is complete bs btw, or is it..? Check it out for yourself.
