Who could ask for a better spot than close proximity to the doctor/hospital corridor of First Colonial and the Laskin Road shopping corridor. The only negative to the location is the traffic congestion at certain times of day and the crazy Laskin feeder roads, which should eventually become a thing of the past. Anchoring the marketplace, in the space previously occupied by a major office supply store, is Total Wine. The store is literally a wine and beer superstore. Be prepared to be overwhelmed upon stepping in for the first time. The out parcels consist of a litany of fast food restaurants that can quickly curb your hunger after a longer than expected expected doctor appointment. I mourn the loss of Schlotszky's, which had been my favorite. My replacement fast food favorite at the marketplace is Chick-fil-A. You'll also find others. Panera Bread has moved to a stand alone location in the midst of the parking lot, which allowed other stores to move in. The shopping center itself has many other quick and dining in eating establishments, including Moe's and Arby's. At the First Colonial Road end is a French Restaurant, which I haven't yet tried. There's a Pet Store, PetValue that I don't recognize as having other stores in the area. Find Pure Barre, Pearl Vision, New Balance, Langley's Credit Union, Michael's, LabCorp, FedEx, several boutiques, a cupcake store and much more. From First Colonial the easiest entrance is to turn on Republic Road then into the large parking lot. There is also an entrance from the feeder lane on Laskin Road and an entrance on First Colonial. Marketplace at Hilltop is a very well placed and useful shopping choice.

The shopping center was developed in the mid 90's and completion occurred in 1997. The strip with out lying businesses on the corner of Laskin and First Colonial is quite expansive. Parking is plentiful and the lot has newer blacktop and striping. Debris is typically scarce as the leasing agent Venture does a fantastic job. Landscape is high quality and maintained weekly. The Laskin side recently had construction and new grass is being seeded. Signage is on both Laskin, which is considered the main entrance and Republic. There are dozens of businesses with anchors Total Wine and Michaels are the largest. Panera, Langley FCU and Le Yaca are also large square footage wise. Perimeter anchors off the road are Sun Trust Bank on the corner, Chick Fil A and Chipotle. A former Jason's Deli has been vacant for months and awaits a new tenant. The stores I like and frequent the most are Total Wine, Chick Fil A and Le Yaca. Panera can now be included with a new store and drive-thru service. A very popular store that I've never been in is Orange Theory. I constantly see foot traffic in and out. Also Moe's Southwest Grill is busy. I can't hide my excitement for this well maintained shopping center. It has stores I love and a location that's just minutes from the Oceanfront. I will continue to enjoy shopping and eating at Hilltop Marketplace businesses.

Whitner's Barbecue of Guy Fiori's Food Network "Diners, Dives & Drive Ins" fame must have been a Pandemic casualty. In its place is the well reviewed Alohahola. Snakes & Lattes appeared to be closed. Their Website indicates "temporarily closed for remodeling". But I saw no construction activity. Panera Bread is gone leaving an empty storefront. The large Rite Aid built on an out parcel is closed. It's sad since I remember when it was built, providing a walking distance drug store during the work day. Remaining are the familiar Mo's, ABC Store & Sushi/Hibachi buffet among others. Being one who doesn't like change my nostalgic trip wasn't a positive one. But there were many Pandemic casualties. So I shouldn't have been surprised.

Parkway Plaza is an older shopping strip, but it's also well maintained…read more Located off South Lynnhaven Parkway. The sign is large enough, but sits back. The strip is known for its barrel tile. If I'm using Parkway it's for an out business Chick Fil A that sits directly off the road. I'm usually there a few times a year, it's not my usual store. I'm not a fan of the small parking lot layout. Good strip that's clean and only hitch could be parking which is a bit limited.

I had the opportunity to visit just a few times ever. Once was Burger, Breaks & Shakes was there...it's gone with a lot of others. The main anchors would be considered Goodwill, Rainbow and Value City. Another store at the end with a lot of square feet has been a close out store for years. I think it was a Steinmart at one time. Sports Authority went out of business months ago. There is a smaller strip that runs parallel that has Philip Michael for Men, Tropical Smoothie and a few others. I visited the men's store Phillip Michael today. Overall a sad strip with many vacant stores that has little business. Retail as a whole is hurting and this is a prime example.

You can find restaurants here, jewelry, home goods, foods, plants, electric bikes, furniture, gifts, Hallmark... it's home to some great locally owned shops that I frequent pretty often as well as an ice cream shop, Starbucks, and Ethan Allen and Fresh Market. It's an absolutely huge shopping center that has multiple entrances and exits so you can easily get in an out. Note: I do recommend you only enter and exit with traffic lights as the access roads for Laskin are notoriously confusing and frustrating to deal with. I'll be glad when they're gone... perhaps in the next 15-20 years? Ha. Still, worth the visit.

Best entry point is Laskin where their are two entrances. The furthest East is less congested. I've always found plenty of parking and the lot is impeccably clean. Lighting is great at night. Access to the businesses is great from the surface lot. So some of my favorite businesses located in Hilltop East are The Butcher's Son (previously Fire & Vine), Bottlecraft, Taste, YMCA, Great Outdoor Provision Co. and Birkenstock store. There are many more to check out. The Hilltop area is an upper-scale strip that is in a beautiful area of Virgina Beach only three miles from the oceanfront. I will continue to shop and eat at establishments in the area and recommend.

The shopping center is on the northeast corner of the intersection of First Colonial & Great Neck Roads. In addition to the neighborhood, Great Neck Square is convenient for those coming north from the First Colonial medical corridor. It's directly adjacent to a sister shopping center Great Neck Village on the north. You can drive from one to the next without exiting to Great Neck Road. Harris Teeter supermarket anchors the center now. It' store occupies the space of the longtime Farm Fresh, whose chain went out of business. The shopping center contains a large variety of businesses that make for neighborhood convenience. You'll find a hair salon, dental office, orthodontic center, nail salon, book store, physical therapy center, credit union, business offices and more, including Ynot Italian restaurant & Plaza Azteca eateries. Longtime out parcel Hardee's sits facing First Colonial. Adjacent is a convenient new 7-Eleven. Out parcels of Great Neck Square & Great Neck Village have contained different restaurants or fast food over the years. I remember well quick trips through their fast food choices in the late 90's to pick up lunch for my son who was at Cox High School. Great Neck Square has received facelifts that have kept the longtime shopping center a feature of the current times. It isn't often that I currently do business in the shopping center that I pass so often. Hardee's is a convenient but high calorie breakfast stop if I've had to fast before testing or a procedure at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. 7-Eleven has been a welcomed fuel stop. Sometimes a quick stop at Harris Teeter fills a grocery need. For those who live in the neighborhood, Great Neck Square is a benefit. It's not a spot where I'll shop often.

Signage is on Great Neck. The lot is very large to accommodate a major grocer. Other than that it's a strip with small stores I've never shopped. A few out businesses are Hardee's and Dunkin Donuts. A new 7 Eleven is on the corner. On my last visit there was minor debris. The leasing agent is Breeden. I think they are one of the areas best.

I could see this being a spot to go to if I lived in the surrounding neighborhoods. Our purpose today was for the philly pretzel shop! Running a deal for April 15 pretzels for $5. National pretzel day is April 26th and they are giving away free pretzels!

Located in the southern portion of Virginia Beach it serves the surrounding neighborhoods with a plethora of shops, eateries and businesses. The center is aesthetically designed with many popular spots. A unique feature at the General Booth entrance is a Starbucks occupying a restored historic 19th century home. Trips to this part of town are few because it's so far from my house near the Shore Drive corridor. They're fascinating because of the rapid development in the 40 years I've lived in the city. Major roads that didn't exist then pass subdivisions and beautiful shopping areas such as Hickman Place. I've enjoyed my visits to Hickman Place. One day I'll do a deep dive into the history of what must have once been a Hickman family farm.

There is a pond located in the center of the shops with a gazebo for pictures and lovely benches placed around the pond. In perfect weather it is a great place to walk and or sit and converse. The sounds of the water fixture is soothing which makes for a serene vibe and atmosphere. There are many restaurants in the area within walking distance but it was unfortunate that most closed at 10 pm. I was not able to appreciate the dining in this area but I will definitely return to get the full experience. I reccomend this location for a nice date night or a girls night out!

There is a ton of free parking either along the streets for 2 hours or so or in the parking garage co-located for ease. There are dozens of shops and restaurants, tons of sidewalk space for walking, a large center fountain area for recreation, and they host seasonal things here like the Christmas events (which I've never visited but hear can get really crowded). There is a large movie cinema here and there are several hotels and corporate offices. There is a lot going on here so you can park and spend an afternoon roaming around exploring, walking and getting those steps in, shopping and eating.
