    Whale watching 3/13/25

We had an awesome experience with Devin on a whale watching tour in Hilo. I was surprised to find that whales were on this side of the island as well since everyone talks about Kona. The waters were very rough, probably 8-10ft swells but we said heck yeah we will go. So we were the only ones on the boat and we saw several whales and a couple breaches. We also surfed the waves on the boat. It was a great trip! Saw a sweet sea turtle by where the boat was docked.

Unbelievable experience morning fishing with these guys. Professional, kind, easygoing. Couldn't recommend them more. Went out for a couple hours and came back with a haul, some good laughs, great story's and memories! Will definitely be back!

    The beach where we snorkeled.

I went on the black sand beach snorkel adventure. It was amazing! Our guide, Chad, made the whole trip so fun and safe. I'm 68 and needed my hand held a bit. He was just perfect. The other snorklers were very experienced, and they had a great time, too. I can't recommend Hilo ocean adventures and all the staff there highly enough. And Hilo's black sand beaches are not to be missed.

I had an Amazing time on my two tank dive at Turtle Bay. It was an interesting beach dive entering and exiting via lava boulders and crashing waves. Not for The faint at heart. There were a couple old timers from the cruise ships that had a lot of difficulty exiting and opted out of the second dive. Interesting rock formations, coral and all manner of marine organisms. Saw a few green Hawaiin turtles chillin at a cleaning station, an octopus, squid and white tip reef shark. I was happy with the professionalism and knowledge of the dive masters as well as their assistance. Would definitely use again. Mahalo :)

We enjoyed our relaxing kayak tour to Coconut Island. The highlight was a friendly juvenile green sea turtle who swam up to our kayak!

Keep in mind there is no snorkeling on this excursion and the area around the Hilton is not safe or appropriate for snorkeling. I am writing the review solely on the lava field excursion part. My wife was very dissapointed that there was no snorkeling as we purchased new snorkeling equipment. Roxy was our tour guide and was probably the most knowledgeable and professional tour guide we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Roxy was knowledgeable in the history of volcanoes on Hilo and elsewhere, horticulture, bird species, animals, Hawaiian culture, tourist attractions, history of the Hawaiian Islands, tribes and Capt. Cook, beaches, teachings, burial practices and so much more. Roxy told stories of the early days in Hawaii and how it evolved. Also as a noted her driving and safety practices were impeccable. If you are planning to come to Hilo you must make it a point to reach out to Roxy. We spent approximately 8 hours on the tour and it was so enriching although the lack of snorkeling was a dissapointment . Highly recommended Mahalo

We hadn't planned to take such a tour and hadn't researched companies, but just decided to be spontaneous. This was an epic adventure. The staff (including Captain Bryce and two other people who were super helpful) was funny, welcoming, and reassuring about our safety. We stayed out for over 3 hours (maybe 3.5) and every minute was a delight. We first saw spinner dolphins who seemed to be surfing in our wake (accompanied by the song "Surfin' USA"). Then we saw so many whales (or maybe it was just two whales we kept seeing?) that I almost got "bored" with the whales. (Not really, but by the time we headed back, seeing whales seemed like a normal thing for people to do on a Friday afternoon). So much fun. Music was great, staff was awesome, didn't get seasick, so comfortable on the boat... I would recommend them over anyone else. They had some bags of chips, Sprite, and water, plus some granola bars in case anyone was hungry.

The crew was excellent, supporting the passengers and the captain for a very enjoyable 35-minute voyage to Kealakekua Bay. Stopped just outside of the harbor to watch Spinner dolphins swimming with the boat, breaching and spinning. Have about two hours to snorkel. First off the boat, last to be back it it turned into a party boat with people jumping off the second deck and using the water slide. Great playlist and an excellent onboard lunch served. Excellent ride, shade, head, drink, food and a fun atmosphere. The crew was very friendly and personable and Capt Jacob gave 150% effort for a good time.
