For starters my wife and I ordered some samosa and a mixed tandoori plate which had some very tender and beautifully spiced pieces of chicken, beef and lamb. A nice size portion to just get your mouth watering for the main course. We love spicy food so we ordered a vindaloo with lamb and some keema naan. It was perfect. We washed it all down with a bottle of wine and finished with Irish coffees because we didn't really have rom for dessert. While we had our Irish coffees we got chatting to the owners Jamal and Akter, who were very lovely people and exchanged stories about each other's travels and families. A really lovely end to our evening. The price was what you would expect for any restaurant in Den Haag and I found it to be very reasonable. The atmosphere was lovely. Very cozy. I struggle to find good Indian food where I live so when I travel I like to go to places I know are good. This was my second visit to Taj Mahal and I wasn't disappointed. I will be going back on my next visit to the city and I promise to take some pictures!!

Roopram Roti has a few restaurants in The Netherlands and the one in The Hague opened in 2012…read more Located in Schilderswijk (a very multicultural area), they sell very delicious tasting rotis! They have a special 'eco' version (which stands for economically friendly) for 5 euros, which is mashed curry potatoes and two pieces of chicken wrapped inside a roti with in a piece of plastic. Very simple and very tasty. Spend a few euros more and they add vegetables (stringbeans), or more meat and a hard boiled masala egg. The selection of meat consists of: lamb, chicken (with or without bone) and duck, or you can get a vegetarian version. Side dishes are pumpkin and eggplant, which go very nicely with the roti too. Since they are Hindus, you will not find any beef on the menu. Also good to know, is that the meat is all halal, so pork is also not an option. The other things they sell besides rotis are some sandwiches with either boneless chicken in masala or chicken livers. And a bara (which is made from ground mung beans, turned into a round patty) which is deep fried and tastes really good! It's a small restaurant that's basically more a takeaway restaurant with tables for people who enjoy eating their roti right away. You order at the counter and pay there too (before or after your meal). They're open 6 days a week (from noon to about 9pm) and closed on Mondays. They accept cash and debit cards only. One of my favorite roti places in The Hague for sure!

Then when they finally did come, they took the order and screwed it up. When we tried to ask them for the extra item that we ordered they told us we never ordered it and brought us the in legible ticket to prove we were wrong. But actually we did order it, he just didnt write it down. Its always nice when the people in the restaurant go out their way to prove they didnt make a mistake instead of just fixing the mistake. Then, we ordered water, and they brought us tea. We asked again for the water and never did get it. When we went to pay the guy walked away in the middle of the transaction 2x and just left us standing there wondering what was happening. The area where you pay is shared with the bar are and looking behind the bar it was absolutely disgusting, dirty dishes stacked up, left over half eaten food. It made my stomach hurt just looking at it. Im glad I didnt see the kitchen. Through out the dinner there were 2 phones ringing behind the bar - CONSTANTLY. It went went on and the whole restaurant was noticing it and it was annoying. The food itself was just "okay" which is why they got 2 stars (and the only reason). I ordered a chicken dish and it was just a lot of rice and 3-4 small cubes of chicken, which were dried out and nothing really special. THe rest of the dished were okay - nothing note worthy of mention. over all I would never eat there ever again. The service was worse than the typical dutch service and the place was dirty.

Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, we were told that a group of tourists was just in, which is why they only had buffet 'served at the table'. It was a pretty strange concept - the unlimited-ness of a buffet but served at your table. The food is quite decent, not the best Indian food ever, but dare I say, good by mainland Europe standards. They don't spike it with red chili pepper in the name of spicing it up. The buffet had a pretty good spread, but as usual, I enjoyed the appetizer pakoras and samosas. The main course for vegetarians included the staple paneer dishes and dal fry, all of which was delicious. The buffet did work out somewhat expensive, but gave us the liberty of trying out almost everything on the menu. The desert was a grand rice kheer and gulab jamun. Needed to digest all that spicy goodness. The Hague is a bit away from Amsterdam, but the next time I am here during dinner time, I know where to get my masala fix.

The staff was really nice and friendly. The dishes we're absolutely delicious! Not like these " european-indian resraurants " where you're searching after the spices. Anyway, long story short, we weren't disappointed at all and really recommend this place, both for the dishes and the attentiveness of the staff. We will surely come again !

I had no idea I needed Nepalese/Tibetan/Indian food in my life. The smell as you walk into the restaurant immediately grabs your attention and lets you know you're in for an experience. Sherpa also has a Tibetan and Nepalese twist, and the menu had so many new-to-me items, including Momos. The restaurant smells amazing when you walk in, so I knew that choosing an entrée would be difficult, especially with so many vegetarian options. I ordered the Tshel momos, which are stuffed with minced vegetables and steamed. They were served with a homemade tomato sauce that, while cold, complimented them perfectly. They were not spicy, which was different for me since I usually go for some form of noodles and love at least medium spice. My husband had the Yeti's Food- Stir fried noodles with boneless chicken and vegetables with Himalayan herbs. He usually goes for curry, so this was a change for him as well. Both of us really enjoyed our meals and are glad we went with something we've never seen in the US before. The service was great, and the servers brought out fresh papadam, raita, and some other condiments to try as soon as we were seated. They also kept our waters and my husband's beer filled and brought us Wilhelmina mints at the end of our meal with the check. Those mints are amazing and so much better than the US post-meal mints, and I had to buy a large package to take home! If you're looking for a culinary adventure in Amsterdam that is NOT Dutch food, check out Sherpa. Bonus points for being an easy walk from the museum district.
