The room was beautiful, clean, comfortable and they also got up super early to have breakfast ready for us and to go coffee cups. Bill, Lucy and Gus the poodle were great host. They even accommodated the fact that we brought our 7lb doggie Abu. Gus and Abu quickly became friends! Gus was so gentle with our little guy. Their home is absolutely beautiful and tranquil. First, it had to support a vegan diet (which I wound up upgrading to vegetarian after I made the reservations -- go figure) and second, it needed to be within driving distance. A third, albeit minor, desire was that it not be a 'factory' spa, where clients are pushed through the treatments like autos on an assembly line. My search was primarily on google maps, since that gave me the ability to see the distance and click directly on the links to see what the property was like. I quickly zeroed in on Eupepsia as a viable candidate. The website is gorgeous, the amenities appealing. So I made the reservation, thinking "it's only for 4 nights -- even if it's not quite what I'm looking for, I'll be fine." About 2 seconds after I pushed the "reserve" button, I got a call! From Eupepsia! Wanting to know what I was looking for and to make sure that it was a good fit. Wow. That has never happened before. And the woman I was talking to sounded so very, very nice. I was to discover that she is, indeed, very very nice. In fact, everyone at Eupepsia is very, very nice. They are gentle people who work hard to make your stay refreshing, healing, and delightful. The Eupepsia property includes a working farm, with A2A2 cows, greenhouses, a milpita, a creamery where the best cheese is made, a chocolate factory for small batch amazing chocolate, a bakery, and many other authentic elements that makes the promise of Farm to Table completely real. Well, I must add: somethings cannot easily be grown in Virginia, so those things are brought in but only from the best suppliers. For example, the wheat for their bread is imported from France. The dining is family style, which adds to the charm. More food than you could possibly eat is served at each meal, and if you happen to arrive late, a fresh serving of the hot dishes is brought to you. The chef is amazing. He really understands food and every meal is cooked that day, from scratch. For special occassions, he has been known to make a cake. While I was there, a vegan guest with a ton of food allergies had a birthday -- he made a cake that was possibly the best I have ever eaten that met all of the requirements of that guest. It is a small resort -- only 20 or so people at a time are guests. You are known, your needs are known, and you are catered to. It is not crowded and you can mingle, or not, as you like. The rooms are expansive and elegant in their simplicity. The sports facilities are awesome. The spa facilities are really great -- I particularly liked the water bicycle. If you are into hiking, the surrounding mountains are gorgeous and the air is fresh. The menu of treatments available is extensive, but I would encourage you to talk with the staff and explain any issues you are having, healthwise. I had suffered a series of falls in March that left me with whip lash like symptoms in my lower back that I was simply not able to conquer (and my doctor had no suggestions, except "maybe try a massage"). I explained all this stuff to the staff and they consulted with experts and presented me with a treatment that I did not at all understand. BUT while the treatment was in progress, I felt the pain starting to ebb. By the time the treatment was over, my lower back was fine -- I could stand up easily for the first time in months. Later, I discovered I could roll over in bed without being in agony. The next day, I discovered I could exercise without pain. And days later, I'm still pain free. So. If you are looking for a small, intimate retreat where you will be treated with respect, fed with the best food ever, and given the opportunity to heal or just relax in a gorgeous setting amongst genuinely kind, caring people, give Eupepsia a try. I loved my shorter stays which were quick escapes where I could relax and recharge, but this time, I stayed 2 weeks and could really feel a difference. I got more into the pace of things which is smooth and steady and it gave me the time to go beyond just relaxation but to reconnect with myself. There's something special about Eupepsia which I can't even describe in words because its just a beautiful feeling that you get once you arrive and this time I felt its impact even more so, even after I left... The staff are amazing and truly make you feel like part of their family, and considerate to the minutest detail. The food is phenomenal and with such a creative menu - I would never imagine vegetarian food could be so good! There's such a variety of treatments to try, all of which are amazing. But this time I tried the manual lymphatic drainage massage and it was a big highlight for me - probably the best I've ever had (and I've tried a few!). It's amazing because every time I go there's something new to try out. On my last trip I also did an ayurvedic consultation and that was a big eye opener. It was great because she walked me through the Boutique to select products for my body type (which is a treasure trove as well!) and gave me some guidance and tips which I've carried home with me. And after 30 years of meditation and even teaching meditation, I also took the "Silent Retreat Course" several time and frankly - IT CHANGED MY LIFE. I FINALLY GOT WHAT SILENCE ACTUALLY MEANT. As far as it being a cult - Well everything can be considered a cult if one is devoted to it. Have you every been to one of those "Krishna Das cults" hahahahha? I live here on the mountain near the Retreat Center, I'm not a teacher nor a "cult member" lol. I'm just happy here with the knowledge I've gained here at the retreats. As far a Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder is concerned - Yes, he's my Guru, so was my mother. But the beauty of Sri Sri was that he (by example) showed me what SILENCE REALLY MEANT. So I would encourage people who want to come here to this beautiful retreat to remember that the PURPOSE of words, critical thinking, spiritual discourse is Silence and rejoicing in your own Being. I received an immediate confirmation and was charged $1,594 in full. During the week of the retreat, I received no pre-retreat information. I emailed three times and received no response. I then called twice with basic questions about what to bring. On both calls, staff took my name and answered my questions. Not once was I told the retreat had been cancelled. So I drove approximately seven hours to the center. When I arrived, the registration employee could not find my reservation. I offered to show her my confirmation email, but she declined. She asked me to wait, then disappeared from the reception area. About five minutes later, the manager, Christy, came to the desk. She told me the retreat had been cancelled on June 24 because of low enrollment. I was stunned. I had just driven seven hours to attend a retreat I had paid $1,594 for. Her response was that there had been "no other way". I asked why no one had successfully notified me. She said the reservation notes indicated that a voicemail had been left for me on August 1. No voicemail ever reached me. I reminded her that I had spoken with staff twice during the week immediately before the retreat, and neither person mentioned the cancellation. The only immediate alternative offered was to sell me a room and a meal for the night. As I stood there trying to process what had just happened, another employee walked by and said, in what I felt was a remarkably dismissive tone, "Everything will work out." I left and began the seven-hour drive home. After I regained cell service, I received a voicemail from Christy. I expected an apology--for the wasted trip, the expense, and the fact that I had been allowed to drive 350 miles to a cancelled retreat without being told. Instead, she maintained that the center had sent two emails I never received and continued to insist that the situation had been handled appropriately. I understand that retreats can be cancelled because of low enrollment. What I cannot understand is cancelling a retreat, waiting weeks to notify paid participants, then speaking with a customer twice in the week before the retreat without mentioning the cancellation--and ultimately allowing that customer to drive seven hours to the facility before learning the truth. This was not simply an inconvenience. It was deeply upsetting and, in my view, completely avoidable. At a minimum, I believe I deserved a sincere apology.

The main Salt Spa room is set up for two people but they can accommodate up to 5 at a time. Please note, you will not be in a room with strangers. So bring friend(s), your spouse or enjoy it as your private oasis. The Himalayan salt is ground and emitted into the air for you to breathe.
